TSBDC NAMES BLUE SLIP WINERY AS ITS 2017 'RISING STAR

The Knoxville office of the Tennessee Small Business Development Center is proud to name Blue Slip Winery as our 2017 Rising Star Winner. The Rising Star award is the highest honor TSBDC has to recognize growing small businesses in the Knoxville area. The award honors business owners who have achieved sustainabili-ty and success and who contribute to the growth and develop-ment of Tennessee’s economy. The Blue Slip Winery first opened in a small storefront in an Old City basement, where growing popularity soon filled a too-small space over capacity. Owner Linn Slocum contacted the TSBDC because she wanted to expand, and she had her sights set on owning the historic Southern Railway Station in downtown Knoxville.“She had ambitious dreams that she intended to make a reality,” said Bruce Hayes, director of the Knoxville TSBDC. “With Linn’s determination and beyond-traditional business personality, I knew she could make it a possibility.”The re-envisioned urban winery opened its doors in November 2014. Guests enjoy wine tastings and events surrounded by Knoxville’s storied history. “The restoration of an iconic landmark in the Southern Rail-way Station, mixed with Blue Slip Winery's advancements in the wine industry has created a commodity for historic

downtown Knoxville that locals and visitors can enjoy and watch grow," Hayes said. "In recognition of her achievements and of the passion that allowed her to pursue her dreams, we're honored to name Linn and the Blue Slip Winery as winner of the Rising Star Award."
