    Chief Education Officer

Children are always the “Why” and my twin boys are my “Why” who inspired me to bring the

IDEA Lab Kids concept to the Charlotte area.

As I thought about the right opportunities to pursue, my wife, Tanisha and I, asked ourselves

two questions: What educational experiences would we like our own boys to have? How can

my work in Education continue to strengthen the community in which our boys will grow? Like

many parents, we want our children to be well-rounded by enjoying diverse experiencesacademically and socially. We also want our boys to thrive within a strong and healthy

community that works together to invest in children and the future. With these goals in mind, I

researched and discovered IDEA Lab Kids - an enrichment center that fulfills what we want

our boys to experience and provides a service that will strengthen our community.

I have over 19 years of experience in Public Education as a National Board-Certified Teacher,

Assistant Principal, and Principal in Washington State, California, Florida and here in North

Carolina. I’ve led Elementary Schools, STEAM Academies and I’ve even transformed a K-8

school into a Leadership Center of Excellence! I believe that my extensive career experience

in Elementary and Middle School Education will allow me to develop the IDEA Lab Kidsconcept here in Charlotte, and provide a unique and enriching opportunity, serving the

children and families in our community.

My wife and I live in Matthews and we love calling the South Charlotte area home for us, our 2-

year old twins, Zealand and Rhodes and our 12-year old Yorkie-Poo, Beethoven “BR”Rutherford. We look forward to serving our local families.Join our

With the new Maker movement underway,

IDEA Lab Kids offers amazing opportunities

for campers to innovate, design and learn

    process engineering. Campers are given

challenges and allowed the freedom to

experiment with all kinds of materials to

    provide innovative solutions to given

challenges. This class is heavy on critical-

    thinking and problem solving where

    campers will utilize their Engineering

    Journals to document thought-provoking

hands-on activities in order to fully absorb

    the creative process of Engineering.

Imagination is the key to this class as

campers Tinker and Build and Explore their

way to cool gadgets and crazy contraptions.

    Jr.

    The Invention Lab

Come explore your inner Engineer. We will

take things apart while designing and

engineering new things that move, roll or do

something unique. Whether it’s a brand new

gadget or tweaking of something old, we will

work on cool projects such as creating

lightsabers that actuality light up to creating

a robot that waves goodbye. It’s all up to

    your imagination.

    Physics and Engineering

    Challenge Camp

After learning about basic physics principles

and Newton’s Laws, campers will design

and build structures of all sorts, from mini

roller coasters to hydraulic elevators. Daily

timed design and build challenges help

    campers experience the excitement of

    engineering while engaging in critical-

    thinking exercises. An Engineering journal

    will capture this journey.

    Sr.

  • Physics of Roller Coaster Design

Use the power of physics to experiment with

your own roller coasters. Build a conceptual

coaster using physics concepts used in real

roller coaster design. Challenges for you

and your team will include: creating multiple

loops, speediest coaster, the height of hills

and many more. We will learn all about the

laws of physics in this class.

You should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the camp starts, and pick

up campers within 10 minutes of finishing the camp. Please try to stick to the

actual drop off and pick up times for Before and After Care. There is a $10 late

fee/ 10 minutes for late pick up. Select Before & After Care during registration.

Can a relative/friend/neighbor pick up my child?

Yes, but you need to add them in person as an authorized party to pick up

your child. ID’s will be verified.
