Summer Research Fellowship Program

General Description

The Summer Research Fellowship Program is a nine-week program that is designed for college sophomores, juniors, seniors or recent graduates. The purpose of the program is to provide a research enrichment experience and some exposure to clinical medicine. This program is designed for students who are interested in a career in medicine, dental medicine or biomedical research and for applicants who have completed some college coursework in biology and chemistry (preferably through organic chemistry). This program is devoted to approximately 32 hours per week of work on a research project and 8 hours per week to required clinical experiential.

Participants of the Summer Research Fellowship Program will be required to identify a faculty sponsor. The faculty sponsor will develop and make available a suitable project description for the accepted participant. Participants are required to contact his/her faculty sponsor in April or May and develop a research protocol. During the program, students are required to prepare an abstract of their research project. At the end of the program, students will make a poster presentation on their research project during a symposium at UConn Health. Preceptor Information

Participants of the Summer Research Fellowship Program are able to select a project of their interest. Participants are required to contact a faculty sponsor and make arrangements to meet and discuss possible designated projects. When contacting faculty members, you will need to identify yourself as an accepted Summer Research Fellowship Program participant who is being funded by the Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs. You may also inform faculty members that your application is available for review in the Health Career Opportunity Programs Office if they wish to obtain further information regarding your qualifications. Once you have identified a faculty advisor and project, you will need to complete a research protocol with your sponsor and submit it to Granville Wrensford, Ph.D., Assistant Dean and Associate Director of the Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs or Kerry-Ann Stewart, Ph.D., Assistant Director of the Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs. These research opportunities can be accessed via the UConn Health website. In order to obtain this information please do the following:
