Mass Intentions for the Week

Intenciones para la santa Misa

Reflexión/Reflection

When we gather together as a faith

community to give glory to God, we expect

that our experience will be similar to what it

was the week before, or the week before

that. Most likely this is how the faithful of

Nazareth felt when they went to synagogue.

Then one day, Jesus, son of Mary, a

carpenter whom some may have known

when he was just a boy, stood up to preach.

Unlike the crowd in today’s Gospel, may we

be open to the Word of God entering in

unexpected ways.

Both Jesus and Ezekiel have a tough time

preaching today. Jesus was dismissed

because the people could not accept that

this seemingly ordinary neighbor could

teach them about God. Ezekiel had to

preach to a people who had rebelled against

God and were “obstinate of heart.” Perhaps

Saint Paul’s insight is most helpful here: it is

when God’s grace allows me to overcome

my own weakness that Christ’s power is

most truly revealed. May we have the

humility to allow God’s grace to strengthen

us.

Cuando nos reunimos como comunidad de

fe para dar gloria a Dios tenemos la

expectativa de que nuestra experiencia sea

similar a la de la semana pasada o de alguna

otra semana anterior. Lo más probable es

que así se sintieran los creyentes de Nazaret

cuando iban a la sinagoga. Entonces un día

Jesús, el hijo de María, un carpintero que

algunos seguro conocían desde que era

niño, se levanta a predicar. No seamos

nosotros igual que la multitud en el

Evangelio de hoy, sino que más bien

estemos abiertos a recibir la palabra de Dios

que llega de maneras inesperadas.

Tanto a Jesús como a Ezequiel se les hace

difícil predicar hoy. A Jesús lo descartan

porque la gente no podía aceptar que este

vecino aparentemente ordinario pudiera

enseñarles algo acerca de Dios. Ezequiel

tuvo que predicarle a la gente que se habían

rebelado contra Dios y eran “testarudos y

obstinados”. Tal vez la perspicacia de san

Pablo nos sea de gran ayuda aquí: el poder

de Cristo de veras se manifiesta cuando la

gracia de Dios me permite superar mis

propias debilidades. Que tengamos la

humildad de permitir que la gracia de Dios

nos fortalezca.
