READINGS Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul,
This weekend, we honor all our dad’s as we celebrate Father’s Day. What
a blessing! Thank you to all the dad’s and those whose role is like that of
fathers. Fathers are providers, sustainers and provide a key role in the
life of family and society. God the Father gave up his only Son, Jesus
Christ, so that we might be saved through him. He provides an example
of the very vocation of fatherhood. Fathers are to sacrifice their lives for
their families. They do this by:
• Being the spiritual leader and guardian of their families. • Praying for and with their families. • Being a courageous witness to the Gospel. • Providing care and support for their families. • Serving as an example of goodness and truth. • Leading with courage and accountability. • Laying down one’s life for another.
As we dedicated this year to St. Joseph, all fathers are also called to imitate St. Joseph in his faith and trust in God. Joseph, accomplished God’s will to care and teach the Holy Family and enjoyed the company of Mary and Jesus in his life. His example is one that we can all look to for renewal and deep transformative prayer. St. Teresa wrote once: “Every year on St. Joseph's Day I ask for a grace, and he always grants it to me. If the request is somewhat twisted, he straightens it for my best use… you will see from experience the great good that comes from entrusting yourself to this glorious patriarch and devotion to him.” I encourage all fathers both biological and spiritual to entrust your lives to the care and guidance of St. Joseph. Happy Father’s Day and thank you for your vocation!
Blessings, Fr. Hugo

Gracias a
Bendiciones P. Hugo

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED
Question: What do the colors of the priest’s
and deacon’s vestments mean?
Answer: In the Roman
Rite of the Catholic
Church, the colors of the
vestments evolved over
the course of several cen-
turies and there was wide
variation both in the colors
used, and in the feasts and seasons associat-
ed with particular colors. It was Pope Inno-
cent III (d. 1216) who gave us the basic out-
line that was later prescribed by Pope Saint
Pius V in 1570. The various colors remind us
of the dominant themes of a particular sea-
son or celebration.
White: Used for the seasons of Christmas
and Easter and in celebrations of
the Lord, of Mary, the angels, and
saints who were not martyrs. This
color is also used in Masses for the
dead, at baptisms, weddings and
other festive celebrations.
Red: As the color of both blood and fire,
red is used on Palm Sunday and
Good Friday, as well as Pentecost
and special celebrations of the Holy
Spirit. Moreover, red is used on the
feasts and memorials of the Apos-
tles and those saints who died as
martyrs.
Violet: The color for Advent and Lent. Vio-
let may also be used in Masses for
the dead and on All Souls Day
(November 2).
Green: A color of life and hope, green is
used throughout Ordinary Time.
Other colors: Rose may be used on the Third Sunday of Advent and the Fourth Sunday of Lent, black may be used in Masses of the dead and on All Souls Day, gold or silver may be used on solemn occasions in place of white, red, or green. ©LPi
