NEW DELHI, June 6:

The probe into the killing of18 Army men in Manipur hasbeen handed over to theNational Investigation Agency(NIA).

The Home Ministry todayissued a notification formallyhanding over the case to theNIA, which will immediatelystart the investigation, officialsources said.

The NIA, which was set upafter the 2008 Mumbai terrorattack, is mandated to probe allterror related cases anywhere in

the country.Since the Manipur incident

is one of the worst cases inrecent past, the Centre haspromptly decided to hand overthe case to the CentralInvestigating Agency, sourcessaid.

In the worst such attack intwo decades, insurgents onThursday had ambushed a mili-tary convoy in Manipur'sChandel district killing at least18 army personnel and injuring11 others.
