HILLSVILLE, Va. — The Carroll County High School Future Farmers of America(FFA) competed in two area events on Sept. 15 at Rural Retreat High School.

Dustin Bowman, winner of the Skyline Federation Small Engines contest, represent-ed the FFA in the area event and finished in fourth place. Dustin Richardson andBrandon Nester, winners of the FFA Tractor Trouble Shooting contest, placed first in theevent and will represent the Appalachian area in the state competition on Sept. 24 at thestate fair. Both teams are coached by CCHS instructor Randy Webb.

The 5th Annual Beaver Creek Ladies Tournament was held Sept. 25 at Beaver Creek Golf Course. The tournament was started by Cindy Thomas to raise funds forthe Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fifty-two ladies participated in the tournament. This year's Rally for A Cure raised $5,450. Funds go to the Komen NC Triad affil-iate, located in Winston-Salem, which provides assistance for 5 counties, including Surry County.
