CAST BIOGRAPHIES

JADE ARNOLD (Gator) is debuting in his first show at RLT. He has a BA in Theatre at UNC-Wilmington, and has appeared in numerous productions throughout the Triangle including All My Sons, Carousel, A Few Good Men, Dreamgirls, Urinetown, and 25th Annua Putnaml Spelling Bee (Theatre Raleigh); 1960!, To Kill a Mockingbird, Enron, Man of La Mancha, Henry V on Trapeze, and As You Like It (Burning Coal Theatre); Fences, Ragtime, Black Nativity (Justice Theatre Project); Fire of Freedom, Gem of the Ocean (Arts Center, Chapel Hill); and Sweeney Todd (Playmaker’s Theatre).

JARRETT BENNETT (Be Black Trio/Ensemble) is a native from Roseboro, NC, who is playing the role of Ensemble as well as part of the “be black trio” in his first show here at RLT. Bennett has been involved in other shows around the Triangle where he has played numerous principle characters such as Hud in Hair: The Rock Musical, and Benny in RENT. He is a rising senior at William Peace University where he has had numerous main stage roles such as Tunny in American Idiot, Harold Hill in The Music Man, and Boy Willie in the Piano Lesson. Bennett plans to move to New York after graduation and continue his journey to the Broadway stage.

CHARLIE BYRD (Teenager/Ensemble) is a rising sophomore at Longleaf School of the Arts. She is so happy to be a part of this amazing cast. Charlie most recently performed in North Carolina Theatre Conservatory’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as the Butler. Other past performances include The Red Queen in a Dance Adaption of Alice in Wonderland at Longleaf School of the arts, Louise the Follies girl in Crazy for You and ensemble in Jesus Christ Superstar at the NC Theatre Conservatory. Charlie would like to thank her parents along with Ray and Tito from the Conservatory for always supporting her Broadway aspirations.

ZAK CASCA (Huey, Fight Captain) is excited to be in his third production at RLT after being a part of Sweeney Todd and Divas!. He got his BFA at East Carolina University and in his spare time plays guitar and officiates ice hockey. Past credits include Disney’s High School Musical (Chad), Aida (Radames), Bat Boy (Bat Boy), Andrew Lippa’s Wild Party (Burrs), Reefer Madness (Jimmy), Willy Wonka (Charlie Bucket), 7 Brides for 7 Brothers (Gideon). Zak would like to thank his family for all of their love and support!

ANDREW COLEMAN (Be Black Trio/Ensemble) is ecstatic to return to RLT after 3 years! He recently graduated cum laude from North Carolina A&T State University with his BFA in Professional Theatre. He was last seen as Henry in The First Noel at A&T. Other credits include the Barn Dinner Theatre’s A Raisin in the Sun (Asagai), Peach State Summer Theatre’s productions of ‘Les Miserables’ (Feuilly) and The Little Mermaid (Sebastian), and A&T’s Jitney (Turnbo), Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and The Amen Corner (Luke). He would like to dedicate his performance to his A&T family. Enjoy yourself!

TIESHYA COLEMAN (Someday Backup Singer/Ensemble) is delighted to make her debut with Raleigh Little Theatre. While this is her first theatre performance, Tieshya has passionately shared her gifts for many church, school, and community audiences since the age of five. During her undergraduate career at St. Augustine’s University, she was a part of several performing arts groups and loves being on stage. She would like to thank RLT for this opportunity and has truly enjoyed working with this cast.

DESTINY DIAMOND (Ethel/Ensemble) is a senior at NCSU studying communication and theater with the plan of moving to NYC for graduate school. Previous credits include Michelle in DreamGirls at Theater Raleigh, as Mimi in RENT at NRACT, Dionne in HAIR at Theatre in the Park, and Cinderella at RLT. She is excited to be joining the cast for a phenomenal show with a great message!

DEL FLACK (Mr. Simmons) is thrilled to be returning to the RLT stage in this fun show. Some of his favorite roles include: Clown #2 in The 39 Steps, the stranger in The Spitfire Grill, Rub-a-dub

MOSES T. ALEXANDER GREENE (Wailin’ Joe/Rev. Hobson/Ensemble) is thrilled to make his debut in Raleigh Little Theatre’s production of Memphis. A native of Long Island, N.Y. and graduate of Syracuse University, his stage credits with the Justice Theatre Project include Ragtime (Booker T. Washington), The Color Purple (Grady/African Warrior/Ensemble), and Black Nativity (Joseph/ Ensemble); with DreamCast Productions “Church Folk” (Kris). He has also appeared in film in “The Best Man” and on television in “Cosby”. He dedicates his performance to his parents and all the real-life heroes and sheroes of the 1950s who dared to make America rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.

KYREE HARRIS (Be Black Trio/Ensemble) is a Singer/Songwriter originally from Mebane, NC. He graduated from Western Carolina University with a bachelor of music degree in commercial and electronic music, and a minor in dance. This is his debut performance with Raleigh Little Theatre and he looks forward to sharing his heart with the audience each night.

TERRA HODGE (Someday Backup Singer/Ensemble) is the Theatre Arts teacher at Culbreth Middle School. She was most recently seen in JTP’s productions of The Color Purple (Celie) and Black Nativity (Mary) and in Theatre Raleigh’s production of Dreamgirls. She is excited to be a part of such a talented cast and gives thanks to RLT for the opportunity.

JUAN ISLER (Delray) is a graduate of Winston Salem State University with a degree in Music Business and a minor in Mass Communications. He is currently a Reservations Liaison at NC State University and assistant choir director at The Fountain of Raleigh Fellowship in Raleigh, NC. Juan is familiar onstage as well as backstage. He has been a stage manager, a television news director, in front of the camera on cable access, and on the stages of the Raleigh Little Theatre, Burning Coal Theater and The Justice Theater Project. Juan thanks Patrick for his inclusion in this wonderful project.

RANDY JORDAN (Buck Wiley/Martin Holton) thanks you for supporting local theatre arts! Randy has been seen in 4 other RLT shows and has been seen in more than 20 productions on other Triangle area stages in recent years. He also directed a production of Arthur Miller’s Death Of A Salesman for Neuse Little Theatre. He thanks Patrick Torres for the opportunity to work with him and making him part of the timeless message and music of Memphis! Thanks too to Mary, his best supporting wife and co-producer of 43 years!

SALLY KINKA (Clara/White mother/Ensemble) would like to thank Patrick for this opportunity to work with such a wonderful cast and artistic team. Working for the last several years primarily as a director and playwright, Sally is quite excited to be on the stage for the first time in a long time. Besides writing and directing, Sally is co-founder and Regional Director of ArtStream, performs weekly in a therapeutic drama and storytelling program for Duke Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, and directs, writes and teaches for NRACT. She holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Lake Erie College.

LAUREN KNOTT (Teenager/Ensemble) is beyond thrilled to be a part of her sixth production here at RLT! Her previous work with RLT includes Spamalot (Ensemble), Once on this Island (Erzulie) and three years with Cinderella (Cinderella). Other recent work includes Xanadu (Kira), Steel Magnolias (Annelle), The Wild Party (Mae), and The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Emily) with NRACT as well as Little Women (Meg) with Meredith Ensemble Theatre. All my love to an incredibly talented cast and crew, as well as to my endlessly supportive family!

ALISON LAWRENCE (Gladys) is an award winning actress, director and voice teacher with over 20 years of experience. She lives in Raleigh with her four-legged family and maintains a successful private voice studio, The Singer’s Art. Many of her students have worked in local theatres before going on to successful careers (Frankie Muniz, Patrick Stogner, Evan Rachel Wood and Clay Aiken) and being accepted into some of the most prestigious College and University arts programs. Onstage most recently at NC State Thearefest, Gerde in The Hollow, RLT; as Sister Acacious in The Divine Sister, Stepmama in Cinderella, Director of DIVAS 2016. NRACT with Actors Comedy Lab; Love, Loss and What I Wore. Justice Theatre Project; as Big Edie in Grey Gardens, and Emma Goldman in Ragtime. You can contact her at [email protected]. Adopt a pet! CHASE RIVERS (Bobby) is a native of Philadelphia, PA and has been acting since 2010. His theatrical credits include the role of Harpo in The Color Purple, Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors, Cornbread in Hurt Village, The Devil in Ti-Jean and His Brothers, and The DJ in the feature film “There’s My Angel”. He is very excited to play the role of Bobby in Memphis and hopes you enjoy the show!

BENOIT SABOURIN (Perry Como/Frank Dryer/Ensemble) is so happy to be coming back for his 4th main stage show at RLT, and 2nd time under the amazing direction of Patrick! He has loved the opportunity of performing in such a powerful and fun show, and thanks the cast and crew for their dedication to making this an amazing show! Some of his other favorite roles include being in the Ensemble for Sweeney Todd and the Prince in Sleeping Beauty both at RLT, as well as Jean-Pierre in This at UNCG, from which he holds a Bachelors of Arts in Drama. Thanks to his family and friends for their continued support!

LUKE SHELDON (Ensemble) has been acting since he was 10 years old and has starred in multiple shows throughout his acting career. He also performed at the national level at the International Thespian Festival. He is very excited to be performing in his first ever RLT production.

JENNIFER SOULIER (Ensemble) is excited to be a part of RLT’s production of Memphis! This is her first time working with RLT and would like thank her parents for their support and gas money. Jennifer is a recent graduate from Western Carolina University and previous shows include Into The Woods (The Drama Center), 42 nd Street (WCU), Much Ado About Nothing (Studio 1) and Black Beard’s Ghost and the Queen Ann’s Revenge radio show (WCU).”

MATTHEW SHEAFFER (Ensemble) is excited to be in his first RLT production! Earlier this summer he was seen in the title role of NC Theatre Conservatory’s Joseph…Dreamcoat. Many musical/drama productions include: Once…Mattress (Jester), Addams Family (Fester), Crazy for You, Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver! (Artful Dodger), Our Town (George Gibbs), Arsenic & Old Lace (Mortimer), Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow), and Once on This Island. A rising 11th grader at Ravenscroft School, he studies voice, drama, cello and piano and is a member of NC Conservatory’s Elite LOS and Senior Dance Companies. Special thanks to Mr. Torres, mom and dad.

AYA WALLACE (Felicia), a Temple University alumna, is performing her first show with Raleigh Little Theater. She trained in classical ballet at Raleigh School of Ballet and has her Master’s from NYU in Dance Education. Her most beloved and first lead role was playing Celie in The Justice Theater Project’s The Color Purple. She can not thank enough those who have been her guiding light, and to her family and friends, especially her son, Jarius.

TYANNA WEST (Someday Backup Singer/Double Dutch Girl/Ensemble) is so excited to be returning to the RLT stage! Tyanna was last seen in NRACT’s The Wedding Singer, and finished her first National tour of the new musical The Clothesline Muse with Grammy-nominated Jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon! Tyanna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal performance from North Carolina Central University. When she is not performing, she is teaching voice in her private studio. Other Theatre credits include: RENT as Joanne (NRACT), Carrie: The Musical as Norma (NRACT), Once On This Island as Mama Euralie (RLT), Dreamgirls as Michelle (Techmoja Dance & Theatre Co.), and Ira David Wood III’s A Christmas Carol. BRIAN WESTBROOK (White DJ/Mr. Collins/White Father/Gordon Grant/Ensemble) is thrilled to be back for his third production with Raleigh Little Theatre! Brian lives, works and plays primarily in Durham but has quickly fallen in love with the theatre community in Raleigh. Thank you for supporting live theatre! Favorite previous roles include Dr. Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, Emcee in Cabaret, Jamie in The Last Five Years, and Beadle Bamford in RLT’s production of Sweeney Todd. KARYN ABERTS (Stage Manager) has recently stage managed Spamalot, Sleeping Beauty, The Glass Menagerie, and served as Assistant Director for Much Ado About Nothing. She has stage managed shows for companies such as PlayMakers Repertory, Utah Musical Theatre, and Hartford Stage. She loves working with RLT and the family here. Karyn has an MFA in Stage Management and an MA in Educational Technologies.

TODD ABERTS (Production Manager) is now in his fifth season with RLT and second as the Production Manager and is enjoying the new role and different opportunities to work with the great RLT volunteers. Todd holds a MFA in technical theatre production from UNC Chapel Hill and a BA in theatre from Mary Washington College. Todd has worked in and run multiple LORT and regional shops such as PlayMakers, The Virginia Stage Company and Playhouse on the Square. Todd would like to thank his wife for not only supporting his theatre career but also being one of our amazing volunteers.

LAVENDER “L.D.” BURRIS (Choreographer) is a founding member and former principal dancer with Chuck Davis’ African-American Dance Ensemble and co-founder/former co-artistic director of 2Near the Edge Dance Company. He is guest faculty in the dance program at NCSU and has choreographed and been commissioned to produce dance and theater works for a variety of groups, including the African-American Dance Ensemble, Meredith College, Peace College, RLT (Director/Choreographer for Once on This Island, and Hairspray and choreographer for Mirandy and Brother Wind, and the NCSU Panoramic Dance Project Dance Group. L. D is happy to be back at RLT working on choreography.

NATALIE COOPER (Assistant to the Director) is a rising senior in the Dramatic Arts department at UNC-Chapel Hill, is honored to have worked with the brilliant director, Patrick Torres, the vibrant cast, and the dedicated artistic team in bringing Patrick’s vision to life. She hopes this production will not only entertain and show how music can bring us together, but serve as a reminder that the fight for justice and equality has yet to be won. A big thanks to Patrick for giving her this opportunity and to her loving family (including her cat, Alexei) for their support!

JOE DIPIETRO (Lyricist) has won two Tony Awards, a Drama Desk Award and 2 Outer Critics Circle Awards. Broadway: Nice Work If You Can Get It (Tony noms – Best Book, Best Musical), Memphis (Tony winner – Best Book, Best Score, Best Musical.) All Shook Up, Living on Love. Off-Broadway: Clever Little Lies, The Toxic Avenger, The Thing About Men, Over the River and Through the Woods, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. His most recent play, “Hollywood,” recently debuted at LaJolla Playhouse. Other recent regional credits include: The Second Mrs. Wilson (Long Wharf Theatre & George Street Playhouse) Chasing the Song (La Jolla Playhouse,) Ernest Shackleton Loves Me (Arts Emerson,) The Last Romance (Old Globe,) Creating Claire (George Street Playhouse.) He sits on the board of Only Make Believe, a charity dedicated to bringing interactive, therapeutic theatre to chronically ill children.

ADRIENNE DYSON (Assistant Stage Manager) has been volunteering here at RLT off and on since she was a teenager—and that was a very, very long time ago. Over the years she has worked in almost every area of the theatre, even on staff as the part-time Marketing Director. She particularly loves being backstage in the dark making the magic happen. Generally, she likes to assist in any way she can, assisting being her best thing. She sends her love to Bunny, Judi, Catherine, and especially her son Joel, who does not mind letting her come out and play.

EMMA HEATH (Assistant Stage Manager) is a rising junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School. This is her first time working on technical production at RLT and she is very excited to be a part of this production. She would love to thank her family and mentors who have constantly supported her. She is eternally grateful to this theatre and people involved.

TODD HOUSEKNECHT (Sound Designer) has been very active in community theatre in the Raleigh area for over 8 years, providing set construction, technical direction, lighting design and sound engineering assistance for organizations that include Raleigh Little Theater, Cary Players, NRACT, several high schools and others. He hopes you enjoy the show.

DUNCAN JENNER (Technical Director) joined Raleigh Little Theatre last April, after spending three years separated from the theatre community. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, and has worked at several theatres in the greater Boston area, including the North Shore Music Theatre, the Wellesly College Theatre, and the Stoneham Theatre. He has also enjoyed working with the young adults of the Boston Children’s Theatre, as well as the opportunity to be a guest lecturer at Salem State University. Duncan is excited to be back in the arts again – here at RLT as the Technical Director and sometimes Scenic Designer. AMY MASSEY (Props Master) is in her third season of volunteering with RLT and is very thankful for the opportunities to work with the wonderful staff and volunteers on each production. Her recent props credits at RLT include Spamalot, Much Ado About Nothing, Venus in Fur, and The Glass Menagerie. Amy is a Meredith College alumni, where she received a BA in Theatre.

ELIZABETH NEWTON (Scenic Designer) is excited to be guest designing at Raleigh Little Theatre again, having previously designed The Glass Menagerie, Much Ado About Nothing, Hairspray, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, and Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells. While currently based in Raleigh, Elizabeth has worked as a designer and scenic artist in North Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and New York. She holds a BA in Theatre from Meredith College and an MFA in Scenic Design from The University of Southern Mississippi. In the Triangle, Elizabeth enjoys collaborating with Bare Theatre, NRACT, Meredith College, and Burning Coal Theatre, where she is a member of the Company of Artists. Favorite recent design credits include: Freud’s Last Session (Tidewater Stage), Blue Sky (Burning Coal), Titus Andronicus (Bare Theatre), The Marriage of Bette and Boo (NRACT), The Diary of Anne Frank (Burning Coal), and Driving Miss Daisy (Tidewater Stage).

VICKI OLSON (Costume Designer) is enjoying her 21st season with Raleigh Little Theatre. After receiving her MFA from UNC-G in 1985 she joined RLT as its first professional costume designer. Her creativity and fine work can be seen in countless productions including Spamalot, Hairspray, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Much Ado About Nothing, and Cinderella. She has enjoyed working with so many talented and wonderful people, this show being no exception, and hopes you enjoy seeing it.

CHARLES PHANEUF (Executive Director) is a Raleigh native who returned to the area and to RLT in 2012. He was previously Managing Director of Joe’s Movement Emporium, a multi-disciplinary performing arts center located outside of Washington, DC, and Associate Managing Director at Shakespeare Theatre Company during the expansion into the Harman Center for the Arts. Charles is a founding member of the Capital Fringe Festival and Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, both in Washington. He is a UNC-Chapel Hill alumni and a board member of the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation and the Friends of the Gregg at NCSU. Charles was named “40 Under 40” by the Triangle Business Journal in 2014.

ARTHUR REESE (Lighting Designer) Professor Arthur Reese has set the mood for the past 25 years as Technical Director for the National Black Theater Festival. He has designed sets and lighting for, among others, Maya Angelou, John Amos, Samuel L. Jackson, and the Negro Ensemble Co. Reese has done technical work for many stars including Sidney Poitier, Debbie Allen, Oprah, Queen Latifah, Malcolm Jamal Warner and Denzel Washington. Reese won the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 African American Image Makers award for Best Lighting Design for his work at ETA Theatre. Co-author and director of “By a Black Hand,” Arthur Reese received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Virginia. He is currently the Technical Director for North Carolina Central University Theater and is collaborating with his wife, Erne Davis Reese, on a textbook Artistry with Diversity (forthcoming, Third World Press, Chicago, IL.)

MICHAEL SANTANGELO (Musical Director) is thrilled to be working with the wonderful cast and crew of Memphis! Past credits include Disney’s High School Musical On Tour and Breaking Up is Hard to Do (Branson Production). Regional credits include Curtains, Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical 2, Bat Boy, Altar Boys (NCT), and The Little Mermaid (NCT). Locally, Michael has played for NCTC’s Master STAS production of Tommy, In the Heights, and Jesus Christ Superstar, RLT’s Divas! and Hot Summer Night’s Spelling Bee and Oh What A Night! Last season, Michael was co-Musical Director for Monty Python’s Spamalot at RLT. He is a graduate of the Crane School of Music.

PATRICK TORRES (Artistic Director) has been a professional director and educator for the past 12 years. Prior to joining Raleigh Little Theatre, he served as a Directing Fellow at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Associate Artistic Director of Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), and Director of Middle and High School Programs at Creative Action. His work as a freelance director has been seen at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Southwest Shakespeare Festival, Round House Theatre, The Source Festival, and the Hangar Theatre, among others. He served as the Assistant Director for The Glass Menagerie starring Sally Field at the Kennedy Center through an award given by the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. In 2003, he was selected as a Drama League Directing Fellow and in 2005 was named a Young leader of Color by the Theatre Communications Group. As an educator, he developed the After-School Playwriting Program for YPT which won the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. Patrick has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. He would like to thank his wife and family for their support.
