1 Beschreibung

1 Description
1.1 Design and function
The SOGEVAC SV 200 and SV 300 aresingle- stage, oil-sealed rotary vane pumps.
The anti-suckback valve, gas ballast valve
(optional), exhaust filter, oil return circuit andoil cooling oil are integrated functionalelements. The pumps are driven by a directlyflanged motor.
Note : the gas ballast valve is standard onpumps sold in the USA.
The rotor (7/88), mounted eccentrically in thepump cylinder (7/83), has three vanes whichdivide the pump chamber into severalcompartments. The volume of each changesperiodically with the rotation of the rotor.
As the rotor rotates, the intake portion of thepumping chamber expands and sucks gas thruthe intake port. The gas passes through the
dirt trap and the open anti-suckback valve(7/54) and enters the pump chamber. As therotor rotates further, the vane separates part ofthe pump chamber from the intake port. Thispart of the pump chamber is reduced, and thegas is compressed. At slightly aboveatmospheric pressure the gas is expelled fromthe chamber via the exhaust valve (6/20)
Oil injected into the pump chamber serves toseal, lubricate and cool the pump.
The oil entrained with the compressed gas iscoarsely trapped in the oil case (6/27) bydeflection. Then fine filtering occurs in theexhaust filter elements (6/29). The proportion
of oil in the exhaust gas is thus reduced belowthe visibility threshold (over 99 % entrapmentrate).
Oil trapped in the exhaust filters is returned tothe inlet chamber via an oil return line (6/11).To prevent gas f lowing at atmosphericpressure from the oil reservoir into the intakeport, the oil return line is controlled by a floatvalve.
The oil cycle is maintained by the pressuredifference existing between the oil case(pressure above or egual atmosphericpressure) and the intake port (pressure belowatmospheric pressure). On part of the oil istaken from the oil reservoir (6/27) and flows via
the oil filter (6/25) to the bearing points of therotor and to the pump chamber. The other partof oil injected in the pump does not run throughthe oil filter. So, if the oil filter is accidentlycompletely clogged, lubrif ication will beassured through the second circuit withenough quantity of oil to guarantie the goodmechanical running of the pump.
However, in that case, the pump will not reachanymore its specific end pressure. That willoften indicate that oil is polluted and/or oil filteris clogged.
A fan running on the motor shaft generates thenecessary cooling air. The oil is also fed, thru a
cooling coil.
Mode d'emploi
1 Description

Pump (non destined to USA) can be orderedwith gas ballast device, on request (6/14).By opening the gas ballast valve, a controlledamount of air so called "gas ballast" - isadmitted into the pump chamber. This gasballast prevents condensation (up to the limit ofwater vapor tolerance specif ied in theTechnical Data) when pumping condensablegases or vapors. There are different types of gas ballast :- standard gas ballast,- large gas ballast (10 %),- gas ballast with electromagnetical valve.
See 2.5.2
On pumps supplied without gas ballast valve, the valve can be retrofitted (cf. Sections 1.5and 2.8).Unintentional venting of the vacuum chamberas well as oil suckback when shutting down thepump are prevented by the integrated anti-suckback valve (7/54).
1.1.1 Range of use
SOGEVAC pumps are designed for pumpingof inert gases in the range of rough vacuum, between atmospheric pressure and endpressure of the pump.
WarningSOGEVAC pumps are not designedfor pumping of agressive, corrosive, flammable or explosive gases.
By presence of agressive, flammable, corrosiveor explosive gases, contact LEYBOLD.These pumps are not designed for working inflammable or explosive environment. In case of doubt, contact LEYBOLD.
CautionThe pumps are not suitable for pumping liquidsor media which contain dust. Correspondingprotective measures must be introduced. In case of doubt, contact LEYBOLD.
Before Pumping greater than atmosphericconcentrations of oxygen (> 20 %) or otherhighly reactive gases, the pump must bemodified, degreased and a special oil (such asPFPE) must be used
Take adequate safety precautions.
Contact Leybold for important safetyinstructions.
1.2 Standard SpecificationThe pump is supplied with drive motor inready-to-use condition. It is supplied with GS77an equivalent oil.Oil is filled in.The connection ports are blanked off by plasticprotective caps.Take these caps away before turning on the

Caution
Until the pump is put back in to service oncemore, the pump should be stored in a dry place, preferably at room temperature (20 C). Beforetaking the pump out of service, it should beproperly disconnected from the vacuum system, purged with dry nitrogen and the oil should be
exchange too. The inlet and exhaust ports ofthe pump must be blanked off using theshipping seals which are included upon deliveryof the pump. The gas ballast must be closedand if the pump is to be shelved for a longerperiod of time it should be sealed in a plasticbag together with a desiccant (Silicagel).
If the pump has been shelved for over oneyear, standard maintenance must be run andthe oil must be exchanged too before the pumpis put in to service once more. We recommendthat you contact the service from LEYBOLD.
2 OperationThe standard pump is not suitable forinstallation in explosion hazard areas. Pleasecontact us, when you are planning such anapplication. Before installing the pump youmust reliably disconnect it from the electricalpower supply and prevent the pump fromrunning up inadvertently. The pump must onlybe installed by suitably qualified and trainedpersonnel.
Observe all safety regulations.
2.1 Installation
It is essential to observe the following instructionsstep by step to ensure a safe start-up.
Start-up may only be conducted by trainedspecialists.
The SOGEVACs can be set up on any flat, horizontal surface. Under the four feet, thereare metric threaded holes for securing thepump.
CautionThe oil level cannot be read properly if thepump is tilted. Pump risk to run dry.
The pump's ambient temperature should bebetween 12C (55F) and 40C (104F)

2.2 Connection to System
The standard pump is not suitable forinstallation in explosion hazard areas.
2.2.1 Intake Side
The pump has an internally-threaded intakeflange. Using suitable connecting elements(see Fig. 3 and Section 1.4), the pump can beconnected to the vacuum system.
The cross-section of the intake line should beat least the same as the intake port. If theintake line is too narrow, it reduces thepumping speed.
We recommend applying either LOCTITE orTEFLON tape to the screwed unions so thatthey are vacuum-tight (especially wenn gasesare dangerous).
Warning- Pump should be connected to inlet linewithout any tension. Use flex lines or pipeunions in your inlet and exhaust lines sothat they can be easily removed for pump
maintenance.
- The maximum pressure at the inlet may notexceed atmospheric pressure (about 1013mbar). Never operate the pump in the presenceof over pressures at its intake.
- Type of materials used for mounting ofcanalisations should take care of pumped gases. Itis the same for its tightness.
If the process gas contains dust, it is absolutelyessential to install a dust filter in addition to the dusttrap supplied (see Section 1.4). We recommend toinstall the dust filter horizontally using the T-piece(3/13) or the elbow (3/14). This ensures that whenremoving the filter no particles fall into the intake port.
You have a choice of three cartridges for theoptional inlet filters. The metal cartridge preventssolid particles such as paper or plastics fromentering the pump ; the paper cartridge removessmall particles such as dust and powder down toone micron ; the activated carbon cartridgeabsorbs chemical vapors of acids, solvents, etc. Ifthe carbon cartridge was stored in a damp place, bake it for 2 hours at 212F before use.
When pumping vapors, we recommend installingcondensate traps on the intake and exhaust sides(see Section 1.4).
By pumping of dangerous gases, inlet line must betight.
No particles or liquids may enter in thepump.
2.2 Raccordement l'installation

2.2.2 Exhaust Side
The SOGEVACs have integrated exhaustfilters which, even at a high gas throughput, trap the oil mist and guarantee exhaust gasfree of oil mist. If the exhaust f i lters areclogged, pressure relief valves (6/28) opensand the filters are bypassed. As a result, theproportion of oil in the exhaust gas as well asthe pump's oil consumption rise. Installing newexhaust filters will correct this problem. (See
Section 3.4).WarningThis situation must be resolved bychanging the exhaust filters.
It is under utiliser's responsability to assuremaintenance on materiel to avoid anytrespassement of the limits autorised byreglementations.
Check in the individual case whether anexhaust line is necessary and/or prescribed.Volatile substances can pass through the filter.Depending on the process gas, werecommend connecting an exhaust line ; this isalways necessary when the exhaust gases are
dangerous.
WarningObserve the safety precautions that applyto your application and process gases.
The pump's exhaust port also has an internal thread(6/2). A hose can be connected via a suitable screw-in nipple (see Fig. 3 and Section 1.4).
The cross-section of the exhaust line should be atleast the same as the pump's exhaust port. If theexhaust line is too narrow, overpressure mayoccur in the pump.
Before installing the exhaust line remove the
exhaust-flange plate and ensure that the exhaustdemister(s) are secured tightly in place. Theysometimes loosen during shipping and installation.A loose demister results in exhaust smoke duringstart-up and operation.
Install the exhaust line with a downward slope
to prevent condensate from flowing back into thepump. If this is not possible, we stronglyrecommend installing a condensate trap (seeSection 1.5). if several pumps are connected to oneexhaust line, ensure an adequate cross-section anda non-return valve at the exhaust of each pump.
WarningNever operate the pump with a blocked or
restricted exhaust line. Before start-up,ensure, that any blinds or similar shut-offdevices in the exhaust l ine on the
pressure side are opened and that the exhaust lineis not obstructed.
Such restrictions reduce the pumping speed, increase the temperature, and could overloadthe motor or cause a dangerous overpressure inthe pump. Excessive pressure in the pump coulddamage the seals, blow out the sight glass, orrupture the pump housing. In addition to thisexplosion hazard, excessive backpressure canresult in hazardous process gases leaking out ofthe pump. Il you are purging the oil casing withinert gas, l imit the inert-gas flow. Contact
Leybold for recommendations.By pumping of dangerous gases, exhaust linemust be tight.
2.2.2 Ct refoulement

The maximum exhaust pressure must notexceed 1,15 bar (absolute). Also reliablyprevent the occurrence of any blockage in theexhaust line. Exhaust filter, accessories andthe tubing must be rated according to themaximum throughput. The maximumthroughput is equivalent to the pumping speedof the pump.
2.3 Electrical Connections
(See fig. 5)WarningEnsure that incoming powerto the pump is off before
wiring the motor or altering the wiring.Electrical connections must be done by aqualified electrician in accordance with theapplicable safety regulations.
Wire the motor for the correct supply voltagevia connections in the junction box. See thewiring diagram on the motor or in the junctionbox. For proper connection, a suitable motorprotection switch must be used. Set the switchin accordance with the rating on the motornameplate.
CautionAfter connecting the motor and after every timeyou alter the wiring, check the direction ofrotation. Observe the direction arrow on themotor hood. During the check, the intake portshould be open. If the direction of rotation iswrong, oil may be ejected out the intake port. The vacuum system may be pressurised.
Don't use the motor fan for checking the rotationdirection. The motor fan rotates too fast to clearlycheck during operation ; when it slows duringshutdown, it reserves its direction.
Briefly switch ON the pump, check if you can feel
suction at the inlet port, and immediately turn offthe pump. When the pump is rotating correctly, you should feel suction at the inlet port.
Turn off the power supply, and interchange twophases of the connection, if you need to correctthe direction of rotation.
We recommend checking the direction of rotationwith a phase-sequence indicator.
Prolonged running of the motor in
the wrong direction of rotation will
damage the pump !
A thermal overload switch is available as anaccessory. It cuts out the pump if a specifictemperature is exceeded and/or triggers awarning signal. Mounting on the oil casing(6/27) instead of the plug (6/26), electricalconnection via 6,35 mm FASTON clips.Power supply : 25 VAC maxi

WarningIf any security switch or electricaldefect cuts out the pump, re-start-up of
the pump has only to be possible by hand-action.

2.4 Start-up
The oil for the first filling is supplied with the pump.
CautionBefore switching on, always make sure that the
pump contains enough oil. The normal oil level
is in the middle of sight glass.
If oil has to be added, unscrew the oil-fill plug,
add oil and screw the plug firmly back in.
The SOGEVAC is designed for normal startup
at temperatures over 0C (32F) (as perPNEUROP), depending on used oils.
To avoid overloading the motor, do not start
the pump more than six times within one hour.
If frequent starts are needed, the pump should
run continuously and be linked to the vacuum
vessel by means of a valve. In that case, regulation will be made by the valve and not by
start/stop of the pump. With the valve closed,
the pump consumes little energy.
Warning- Before starting the pump ensure that
the attached accessories meet the
requirements of your application and that safe
operation is ensured.
- Never expose part of the body to the vacuum. There is a danger of injury. Never operate the
pump with an open and thus accessible inlet.
Vacuum connections as well as oil filling and
oil draining openings must not be opened
during operation of the pump.
- The safety regulations which apply to the
specific application in each case must be
observed. This applies in particular to
instal lation, operation and maintenance
(servicing) as well as waste disposal and
transportation.
Warning
Do not lay the hand on the intake tocheck succion.
Exposure of a part of the body to the vacuum
result in a rush of blood in the exposed part.
I l y a risque de blessure. I l est

beigefgt).
2.5 Operation
The SOGEVACs can pump gases and vapors,
provided that the gas ballast valve is installed and
open and the pump has reached its operating
temperature.
Contact Leybold for important safety instructions
before pumping greater than atmospheric
concentrations of oxygen or other highly reactive
gases. The pump must be degreased, modified, and
special inert oil must be used for pumping oxygen.
The motor manufacturer guarantees a maximum of
6 starts per hour. To avoid exceeding 6 starts per
hour, run the pump continuously and regulate the
vacuum in your system with a pilot valve.
WarningPump in fonction is hot and
some surfaces could reach a
temperature higher than 80C (176F). Thereis a risk of burn by touching. Take not of
warning labels on the pump.
2.5.1 Pumping of Non-condensable
GasesIf the process contains mainly permanent gases,
the SOGEVACs can be operated without gas
ballast, provided that the saturation vapor pressure
at operating temperature is not exceeded during
compression.
If you do not know the composition of the gases to
be pumped, and if you can't rule out the possibility
of condensation, run the pump with gas ballast
valve open in accordance with Section 2.5.2.
2.5.2 Pumping of Condensable Gasesand Vapors. Using gas ballast.
The pumps with gas ballast valves aredelivered with the gas ballast valve open.
NoteThe SOGEVAC SV200 and SV300 can be
equipped with 3 types of gas ballasts.
Standard gas ballast (Cat. No. 951 29)
(originally mounted on Cat. No. 109 27, 950
27, 955 27, 109 31, 950 31, 955 37).
This gas ballast correspond to the most
important part of applications ; it authorizes a
water vapour tolerance of :
30 mbar at 50 Hz
40 mbar at 60 Hz
Gas ballast "Big Flow" (10% of Pump's flow)
as a variant or accessory (Cat. No. 951-30)
This kit is intended for the applications where
more vapours of condensable gases could
come into the pump. It brings the water vapour
tolerance above 50 mbar. (Mounting
instructions attached to the kit).
RemarqueLes SOGEVAC SV200 and SV300 peuvent
tre quipes de 3 lest d'air diffrents.
Lest d'air standard (Rf. 951 29)
