– Work through Age Group Coordinator– Set example for SYS

• Zero tolerance on Misconduct/Behavior– Parent Meeting – Day 1– Fair Competition/Work with Opposing Coach– Make certain every child is picked up before you go

• Ball Size:– 3 for U5, U6, U7, U8

• Games:– 2 for U5, U6, U7, U8

• Players: – 3 for U5, U6– 4 for U7, U8

• Length of Game:– 4 13 minute quarters for U5, U6, U7, U8

• Out of Bounds:– New Ball for U5, U6, – Throw in and corner kicks for U7, U8

• Substitutions:– Anytime for U5, U6, – Announce to Referee for U7, U8

• 8 Games• Season starts April 9th • Games will be played on April break• Games will not be played on Memorial day

Equipment

• Players– NO Jewelry, Casts, Hair Beads, or Splints !!!– Knee/Elbow Pads must have protective

padding– Shin guards are a must!!– Cleats are highly recommended

What should you have?• At least 3 size 3 balls• 10 to 20 orange discs.• Practice vests• Medical Kits

MA Youth Soccer U5-U10 Curriculum

• U7 and below• Dribble: all sides of feet, out of trouble, past someone• Soft first touch

• U8• More Dribbling• Shielding• Introduce Proper Shooting and Passing

Why Focus on Dribbling

• Encourage ball control and creativity– U.S. Players, at all levels, lack this skill– Passing at young ages is really booting the

ball away and not ball control– At young ages athleticisim ‘looks’ impressive

but this encourages poor ball control

Suggested Practice

• Warm up– Get them focused, moving with the ball– No need to stretch at these ages

• Activities (Progression)– Individual (1 ball per child)– Small groups (1 ball per 2 children)– Large Groups/Mini games (2v2, Multiple goals,

multiple balls can help not bunching• Scrimmage

– 3v3, 4v4• Check the website for practice progressions

• Move the Goals for Practice!• Field Closings are posted on the website• Field Status

– Updated at 3pm weekday– Updated at 7am weekends

• All other trophies are prohibited

Rescheduling U5 – U6

• Contact opposing coach• Determine a practice night that works best

for both teams• Reschedule game on your own• No referee for U5-U6 games• Look at other teams practicing that night
