Volunteers and Employees Every calendar year, all clergy, staff members, faculty and volun-teers supervising, working or interacting with minors must com-plete the Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at Parish/School Activities or Events. Without completing this document, adults may not supervise, work or interact with minors. You may obtain a copy of the Guidelines for Adults by visiting the Parish Office or by going to the Parish Website and clicking on Safe-guard the Children link. Further, adults are permitted to interact alone with minor/minors only after complying with Archdiocesan policies regarding fingerprinting and safe environment training. They may work with minors only as part of a team if they have not met those requirements. Dates, Times and Locations of training can be located on the Parish Website under the Safeguard the Chil-dren link. Fingerprinting occurs once while the safe environment training must be completed every four years.

In today’s readings we are told of the different gifts, forms of ser-vice, and workings that come from God. These manifestations of the Spirit come to fruition through us, for we have ability to give the gifts of faith, healing, and of mighty deeds. Today God calls upon each one of us here to share our gifts with our brothers and sisters in Christ that are in need of them. Through Together in Mission we can share our mighty deeds and give the healing and faith to the communities that simply would not be here without them. Though our church is large, our strength lies not in our numbers, but in our compassion and ability to respond. Every gift, regardless of the size, matters. What is important is that we give what we can and answer this calling of our faith. During all Masses next weekend, we will conduct the in-pew pro-cess for the collection of gifts & pledges to this year’s appeal. To-gether we can make sure God’s love and presence are felt by all, especially those in need. God bless you for your generous response and support.

However, if a child discloses any instance of abuse, how you han-dle this information is critical to their well-being. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Although our tradition carries a long memory of marriage as a sacrament, it may surprise you to learn that for nearly eleven centuries, there was no single wedding ceremony approved for use in the Church. While we have evidence of priests blessing marriages as early as the second century, in the early period church leaders relied on civil authorities to manage marriage for everyone in socie-ty. In most cases, society yielded its authority to sanction marriage to the male heads of households. From ancient times, marriage had been a family affair, man-aged by the father of the family, who acted as priest and guardian of family tradition. Each head wanted to keep the family gods alive, and so he would arrange for brides for his sons, paying a “bride price” as compensation for the loss of a skilled household worker. As creepy as that sounds, it was a step up from the kidnapping prac-tice of earlier years. Even after the kidnapping raids stopped, the customs remained. Every wedding contained the ritualized kidnap-ping of the bride, the husband abducting his bride from the festivi-ties, carrying her over the threshold to prevent her father’s gods from following her into her new religion. There, he fed her a piece of “sacred cake,” initiating her into a new way of life. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

En 1502 el fraile Nicolás de Ovando y doce franciscanos die-ron inicio a la evangelización de América en la República Domini-cana. Ellos fueron enviados por los reyes españoles con el mandato de convertir a los nativos “sin les hacer fuerza alguna”. Con los misioneros llegaron Alfonso y Antonio Trejo quienes traían con ellos un cuadro de la Virgen María bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia. Ellos la llevaron a Higuey, donde en 1572 se le construyó su primer santuario. Poco a poco esta pequeña imagen se convirtió en la Reina del corazón de los dominicanos. María observa dulcemente a su recién nacido quien yace sobres las pajas. Está coronada y lleva puesto un manto azul rociado de estre-llas y un escapulario blanco. Lleva una aureola hecha de doce es-trellas. En una esquina de la imagen san José también observa al niño por encima del hombro derecho de María. El 25 de enero del 1979 Juan Pablo II la coronó por ser la primera evangelizadora del continente Americano. REPORTE DE CONTRIBUCIÓN A LA PARROQUIA 2015

Voluntarios y Empleados Cada año, todo el clero, empleados, profesores y voluntarios que su-pervisan, que trabajan o que interactúan con los menores de edad de-ben completar la Guía para adultos que se Interrelacionan con Menores en Actividades o Eventos de la Parroquia/Escuela. Sin completar este documento, los adultos no pueden supervisar, trabajar o interactuar con menores. Usted puede obtener una copia de la Guía para adultos visi-tando la oficina parroquial o visitando el sitio web de la Parroquia y haciendo clic en el enlace de Safeguard the Children. Además, los adultos se les permite interactuar a solas con menores / menores de edad sólo después de cumplir con las pólizas de la Arquidiócesis de las huellas digitales y el entrenamiento de un ambiente seguro. Pueden trabajar con menores de edad sólo como parte de un equipo si no han cumplido esos requisitos. Fechas, horarios y lugares de entrenamiento las pueden encontrar en el Sitio Web Parroquia bajo el enlace Salva-guardar a los Niños. La toma de huellas se hace solo una vez, y el en-trenamiento de un ambiente seguro se hace cada cuatro años.

De las lecturas de hoy nos enteramos de los diferentes dones, formas de servicio y funcionamiento que vienen de Dios. Estas manifestaciones del Espíritu vienen a la vida a través de nosotros, porque tenemos capacidad de dar a los dones de la fe, la curación y de milagros. Aunque nuestra iglesia es grande, nuestra fuerza no reside en nuestros números, pero en nuestra compasión y capacidad de responder. Cada regalo, sin importar el tamaño, importa, siempre y cuando le damos lo que podemos y responder a la llamada de nuestra fe. Durante todas las Misas del próximo fin de semana, vamos a realizar el proceso de donacion para la colección de regalos y promesas de la apelación de este año. Juntos podemos hacer el amor y la presencia segura de Dios son sentidas por todos, especialmente a los necesitados. Dios los bendiga por su respuesta generosa y su apoyo.
