Rankin Chamber passes gavel and honors members at annual banquet

Happy New Year!October 1 begins a new fiscal year for the Chamber, and we are in full swing going into the Fall. We just finished up the first ever Miss Rankin Pageant and are on the cusp of another exciting event in November—the Glow Run.

When I first became a part of the Rankin Chamber in 2006, I looked at the board of directors and hoped that I might be on the board myself some day. I quickly realized that if I was interested in being a part of the board in any organization, I would have to invest myself in that organization instead of just showing up. In order to be a part of any group, one must demonstrate that he or she is vested in the mission, the values and the work of that group. With that in mind, being invested is not only about serving on the board; it’s about being involved with the community.

The chamber is an excellent place to start, and I hope that you will join me this year in being a more active part of our events and outreach. Some things that you will see highlighted in this column throughout the next year include Leadership Rankin, Youth Leadership, Project Impact, and though they don’t know it yet, spotlights on our Vice Presidents.

The Rankin County Chamber of Commerce handed out annual awards and passed the gavel to a new Chamber President on Tuesday, September 24th at the Clyde Muse Center.

Despite torrential downpours, over 400 business owners, chamber members and elected and local dignitaries came out to join our 54th annual celebration.

Jerry Moorehead, outgoing 2013 President, highlighted accomplishments of the past year and passed the gavel to 2013 President, Daniel Elliott.

The Chamber thrives off of the contributions of our members. The dues that each of you pay is key to the day-to-day running of our offices. However, the volunteer hours that you and your employees offer to us are also instrumental in making our Chamber function properly. Each month this section features Chamber volunteers who have demonstrated extra effort for the month. It is our hope that we will see each of you in this column soon.
