Ready for an Exciting New Year!Hello, and thank you for your continued support of Better Health! It is an

honor to serve as the 2019/2020 Board President for Better Health and

assist in furthering the work of this incredible organization, as my uncle

Bill McFadyen proudly did just a few years ago. We are looking forward

to another wonderful year of good work, reaching as many underserved

members of our community as possible, and continuing our partnership

with the United Way of Cumberland County. There are many exciting

things to come!

To all of our volunteers, I thank you for what you’ve contributed to our

organization. We always have a place for people who are willing to give

of their time, talents, ideas, and funds! Want to help plan a fundraiser or

join the Fayetteville Fit party? Think it’d be fun to get a group together for

our November Run? Would you like to contribute tax-deductible funds

in any amount? Please visit our website or email us

at [email protected] – we’d love

for you to join us in any capacity!

Anything you can offer goes a long way

towards bettering the lives of

people in our community.

Cheers to another great year!

Fondly,

Jennifer McFadyen Hammond

October 2018 marked the 20th anniversary of Tammy Pearson who, as a general aide, has faithfully maintained the office and equipment for Better Health. Please join us in congratulating Tammy for her many years of dedicated work.

Interested in getting involved in your community? Better Health is always in need of volunteers and committee members for our fundraising events, as well as, volunteers for our weekly diabetes clinics, Fayetteville Fit, special projects, and community events. For more information, or to fill out a volunteer application go to our website at www.betterhealthcc.org or [email protected]. We look forward to working with you soon!

Please help us in welcoming Liz Glockzin and Vicky Diaz to our staff. Liz is an RN that is sharing the role of Health Education Coordinator. She leads Take Charge of Diabetes class Monday evenings, Tuesday morning Diabetes Clinic, and is also available for 1:1 education and presentations. Vicky joined our staff in July and is taking on the role of Case Manager. Vicky comes to Better Health with many years’ experience in community resources. Welcome aboard ladies!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Sharon Eagen! Sharon’s attention to detail, compassion for clients, and dedication to the service of others is unparalleled. She has continuously demonstrated a commitment to excellence that we have come to depend upon. Sharon has been a superb Case Manager for 14 years and will be missed greatly, but we wish her well in her new adventures.

Fayetteville Fit testimonial: “My child and I have been attending for over 6 months. For

myself, I have been more aware of how I cook and what is

included in our family’s diet. I feel for my child and I this has helped us understand the importance of physical fitness in our daily life. The friendship developed during the program makes it enjoyable to attend and to continue to do so. The staff are wonderful motivators and part of our decision to continue with this program.”

Open House and Ribbon Cutting! Better Health staff and board members hosted an Open House and Ribbon cutting to celebrate 60 years of serving Cumberland County residents. The event was a huge success and attended by many community members and City of Fayetteville officials. In order to continue serving our community for another 60 years please consider donating by visiting our website, gifts by will, clicking the donate link on Facebook, or by contributing to our Endowment Fund through Cumberland Community Foundation.

Did you know? Anna Matteson, CDE, RD,helps teach diabetes classes on Thursday evening and also does monthly cooking demos with our Fayetteville Fit program!

After Hurricane Florence, Better Health assisted the Red Cross by donating medical and hygiene items for shelters, as well as, giving out information regarding needed resources for those that were displaced due to the storm. Additionally, along with NC Med Assist, we were able to help bring Fayetteville’s first mobile pharmacy to town, providing free over the counter medications to greater than 400 people! Keep an eye out for another mobile pharmacy within the next year!
