Welcome to another year of Tanbark we hope this year will

prove to be even more enjoyable than the last 12 months.

TOOWOOMBA ORCHID SOCIETY Inc. General Meeting Minutes, 22nd

November 2013, at St Paul’s Church Hall, Phillip St, Toowoomba.

The meeting was opened and the president welcomed everyone present at

6.30pm.

HOUSEKEEPING; - Toilets, Evacuation Procedure – familiarise yourself with

it etc.

The President explained that tonight will be a very brief meeting as

required by our constitution. We’ll get on with it and then break for our

Christmas Party. Don’t forget to buy plenty of raffle tickets in the rolling

raffle and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those members who

have donated generously to make this raffle a beauty.

On the 2015 subject – the AOC Darwin conference of that year has been

abandoned and has been taken on by the Qld. Tropical orchid group and

will be in Mackay from 19th to 24th September. Unfortunately this will be

the exact same dates as our spring show that year but doesn’t clash with

our conference.

VISITORS: A. Breuel, M & T Lostroh & D Polzin were welcomed.

APOLOGIES: - Recorded in the attendance book as well as; Charlie and Erika

Dedekind, Karen and Dennis Eslick, Les and Margaret Lobley.

SICK LIST: Jean Cherry is still in hospital following an op. We wish her a

speedy recovery.

area. All correspondence was available at the front desk – there are also

the minutes of the management committee meeting and the show

Correspondence be accepted and outward endorsed, Carried.

Being no pressing business from the floor a motion was moved by D Woolf and seconded by B Polzin that the

meeting be closed and any further business be dealt with by committee. Carried.

The President asked the Committee to meet in the kitchen area in 5 minutes.

Meeting Closed at 6.45pm.

Christmas Party 2013. 56 members and guests enjoyed a wonderful meal provided by the

caterers interspersed by a great raffle with excellent prizes kindly

donated by members. As the Patron wasn’t able to attend the evening,

a message to members was read by the president. The president then

thanked members who have contributed to the smooth running of the

club this year and reminded patrons that the AGM is fast approaching.

This was followed by an entertaining slide show and talk by Janice Miller on a recent trip to China and Vietnam.

Thanks Janice.

A special plant auction concluded the evening with some very special plants being sourced for this activity by

David Woolf. Special thanks to those who donated.

The proceeds of this activity (over $400) will go to the 2015 Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Certificate of Appreciation

Presented to Bernie Polzin for his tireless work

for the club.

Although Burnie is moving away from the area

Coming Events Qld. International Orchid Fair – 7th – 9th March at the Beenleigh Showgrounds.

2015 Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The Feasibility Working Group has fulfilled its commitment and at a meeting on 8th of

December 2013 was disbanded. The date, venue and feasibility that our club can

achieve a conference in 2015 has been established.

Date;- Setup Thursday 22nd July 2015, 2 day conference/show – 23rd & 24th of July 2015. The reasoning behind

these dates is to give societies and vendors a clear 2 weeks before and after to attend other shows already

planned.

Venue;- USQ Berghofer Recreation Centre. Two venues being considered were Berghofer Pavilion at the show

grounds and the USQ venue. While being somewhat more expensive the USQ venue was chosen as it is better

situated, fit for purpose in catering, heating and with suitable lecture rooms.

At this stage an official icon has not been formalised – suggestions accepted.

The next stage will require Planning/Working groups to achieve a successful outcome in July 2015. Please

consider where you may be able to help.

The breakdown of these working groups required is as follows;-

Vendor/Display/Judging Coordination group.

Organise vendors – suggest approximately 10 orchid vendors and 6 alternative vendors.
