It borders the states of Guerrero to the west, Puebla to the northwest, Veracruz to the north and east Chiapas. To the south has almost 600 km of coastline on the Pacific Ocean.OAXACA.

For its size, it is the fifth largest state and occupies 4.8% of its total area. It houses a rich multicultural composition where more than 16 ethnic groups. It is the most biodiverse state of Mexico.

1,431 vertebrate species exist, of which 736 are birds. For vascular plant endemism between 1% and 57% (avg. 8.3%). For example, just in the state of Oaxaca there are more species of birds than in the United States.

Main economic activities

Agriculture is the main economic activity of the state, where maize, sorghum, peanuts, alfalfa, beans, canary seed, coffee, wheat, rice, sesame, barley, sugarcane, pineapple, cotton, coconut, lemon, tamarind, banana is grown , pineapple, orange, mango, papaya, watermelon, grapefruit, plum, apple, pear, peach, avocado and walnut.Livestock is another important activity; Bovine cattle, goats and pigs.
