My name is Gina. I study at P. Tacchi Venturi School in Italy. On a school day, I get up at 7.00. I goto school in our car with my mum. School starts at 8.15. I study maths, science, Italian, history, geography, art, technology, sport, computers, music and English. School finishes at 1.25, but I don’t always go home. Can you say smorgasbord?

A smorgasbord is a special type of meal from Sweden. In a traditional Swedish smorgasbord, there’s a long table with bowls and plates, and they’ve all got different types of food. You walk next to the table and choose food. Does it look good? Then have some, and don’t hurry. You should enjoy your meal slowly. Take some food, sit down and eat it. Then take a new plate and have some more food. There’s no limit!

First, you can have cold fish and seafood. Next, you can have cold meat. There are usually small meatballs and cold ham. After that, there is hot food – soup, ham, fish, seafood, beans, potatoes and vegetables. There are usually different types of salads, too. And a smorgasbord has always got bread and cheese. Do you like science fiction? Then you should reada book by the great science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.

Isaac Asimov was born in Russia in 1920. His family moved to America in 1923. He could read English at age five and he wrote his first story at age 11. At 21, he wrote a story called Nightfall. Science fiction fans and critics said it was a great story, and Asimov became a popular and famous writer.

Asimov wrote stories about the future. He often wrote about robots. They were usually good robots and they helped people. He sometimes wrote about the stars and life on other planets. In his books, people travelled to other planets, but Asimov didn’t like going on aeroplanes. He only flew two times in his life!

The hippopotamus is a huge animal. It’s bigger than a horse or a cow. Some hippopotamuses weigh 4,500 kilograms, or more! There are only two bigger land animals – elephants and white rhinoceroses.

The hippopotamus – sometimes called a hippo – lives near lakes or rivers in Africa and stays in the water all day. Hippos don’t like the hot African sun, so they stay happy and cool in the water.
