DESCRIPTION

­Student Description Student levels are the equivalent to the United States and the State of Utah standards for this age/grade level. The class has 20 students in the age group of 6 and 7. Twelve students are natives of the United States and are native speakers of the English language. Eight of the students are native born to a variety of foreign countries and speak the language of their country. These students range from ­mid- novice­ to lower intermediate in the English Language Learners Program. They attend 5 hours in the regular English speaking first grade classroom and one hour in an English Second Language class daily.

Program Description• This is an academic full year first grade class for 6 and

7 year olds.• This is a 6 hour class that the students attend daily

throughout the year.• The curriculum is based on the Utah State Core

Curriculum for the First Grade.• The class is located in an Elementary School in the

State of Utah and is a mainstream classroom being taught in English with a certified ESL teacher.

• The objective of the class is to teach all children the knowledge and background that they will need to advance into the second grade and in to their future education.

• These students have access to text books, dictionaries, story/picture books, media, technology, hands on activities and materials.

Student Description• The goal for all students is to gain the

education in the levels of this grade to further their education and move to the next level of second grade. The students are developing their learning attitudes to understand that not everyone is the same and that everyone gets to learn and achieve their goals no matter of gender or race.

• All students have access to all of the materials in their perspective classrooms,

paper, writing, coloring, centers, listening devices, technology, books and a wide variety of media. The ESL students have their ESL class time to work on their English language skills and any other problem areas.

Performance Objective

• Through pictures the students will learn places by their name, in English. They will be able to identify the places by sight, and English word when presented a quiz, in matching form.

Lesson Plan Places Where We Live and Go• Students will learn the proper name

and usage of the buildings, places in the school, and the rooms inside their homes.

• Students will put together a book of each place, by drawing a picture, naming it, and approximately write to full sentences about it.

• Students will match the name to its picture and tell the class a function in that place. (Bathroom-take a bath).

Performance Objectives:

• SWBAT identifies and follows the different sequences of the story, through dramatic story telling as a class, by usting the materials given them to act it out.

• SWBAT distinguish the vocabulary words given them before reading the stories, by matching them to pictures on a worksheet provided for them.
