This area was notified as 'Port Meadow' in the year 2016 by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. A successful Ship to Ship transfer trial run was also carried out under the supervision of the Port Management Board in January 2018 involving all agencies including the Customs and Immigration. Government approves newly notified 'Port Meadow' as 'Customs Area' I am glad to learn that "National Press Day" is being observed on 16th November 2018 in the Islands together with the rest of the Country. The existence of free and responsible press is essential for the welfare of the society and vital for parliamentary democracy. The role of the media which is considered to be the "Fourth Pillar" of democracy therefore is of immense importance for the all-round development of the country. During the last two decades as the media environment has become increasingly digitalized, the changes in contours of journalism have brought with itself a new blend of challenges. Port Blair, Nov.15 DBRAIT has registered for India's Largest Online Campus Drive through Internshala (https:// internshala.com). It is India's largest internship & training platform and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has signed an MoU with Internshala. Internshala has launched India's Largest Online Campus Drive having 400+ internship openings with job offers which is now open for DBRAIT students. In this 4-day internship-cúm-placement drive, the students will get a chànce to apply as an intern with a company for a duration of 4-6 months, and based on the performance during the internship, they can convert the internship into a full-time job with a minimum CTC 3 lac +. The milk production has increased from 15 thousand MT in 2013-14 to 17.15 thousand MT in 2017-18. It further aims to reach 20 thousand MT by 2023. Besides, the services of Common Service Centers (CSCs) will also be utilized for digital education, he said. To begin with, digital literacy has been started in GSSS Manglutan, he said. The Secretary said that the programme will help rural students gain digital literacy, who are otherwise lagging behind their counterparts in the urban areas, who have access to digital education. It will also enable them to adopt digital transactions as also to set up own ventures in the IT sector, he said. The Secretary informed that steps have also been initiated to established digital lockers, which will store all relevant certificates of CBSE Class X and XII of a particular student, which will be as valid documents as the original ones. Digital locker can also store copies of documents such as PAN, LPG connection, driving license etc. and can be considered for verification during renewal, reconnection etc. he said. * For the upsurge of growth, the Department will be implementing a project on employing Embryo Transfer Technology to improve Dairy Sector

in collaboration with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) By January, 2019. The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and

Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI, has approved the proposal for induction of 2500 embryos of elite indigenous milch

animals using ETT, and has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 307.50 Lakhs. It is expected that milk production will increase by 300000 Kgs per annum from

the fourth year of the project onwards. Further, in close cooperation with National Cooperation for Development of Cooperative (NCDC) , the

department has undertaken number of initiatives.

DAIRY DEVELOPMENT:

* The A&N Administration is inducting 3000 high milk yielding indigenous milch animals from mainland by 2019. This will increase the milk yield

to 27000 litres per day.

* For cold chain process, the AHVS Department plans to establish 20 units of Chilling infrastructure with Milkoscan of 500 litres capacity and

17 units with 1000 litres capacity by the end of next year.

* Acquiring 5 units of Milk tankers with a 3000 litres capacity is also planned.

* For Value addition, Paneer processing planta are proposed to come up at Diglipur and Mayabunder by the end of 2020 and will enhance the

income opportunities.

GOAT DEVELOPMENT

The Administration has planned to provide 50 units of (20+1) size comprising 20 doe and 1 buck of by 2019.

POULTRY

The Department gives thrust on poultry sector and intends to setup 100 satellite poultry farms by next year with a financial outlay of Rs. 2.5 Cr.

and 100 cooperative members will be given these to manage.

* The satellite farms will be supported by Mother Poultry farms which are planned to set up at 5 major hubs at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh.

* It will set up 5 Poultry Cooperative Societies for marketing purposes with an outlay of Rs. 5 lakh by March, 2019.

PIGGERY

The Department will purchase and maintain 100 breeding stock of large white Yorkshire under a proposal amounting to Rs. 158.3 lakh by

December, 2019. The piglets will be distributed to the members of village cooperative at affordable rates.

CAPACITY BUILDING

* The AH&VS Department has an intent not only to provide substantive intervention in input, cold chain processing and output side but to

enhance the skills of the farmers, Society members and chairman of the cooperatives. They will be trained for adopting management practices

required for production of hygienic and quality milk, meat and eggs including farm management, fodder production, health care, breeding

aspects etc. The Department will invest to the tune of Rs 30 lakh for more than 400 personnel to be trained within next two months which will

have long standing effect on improving quality of produce, a communication from the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman said.

The Secretary further said that the Department is also planning to provide coaching to Islands’ students at different places, in NEET and JEE,

which will help them apply for admission in higher education in mainland institutes. This will also be made through the CIC as well as CSC,

established across the Islands, he said. At present, coaching in NEET and JEE are being conducted at Govt. Model Senior for the students of

Port Blair schools, including private schools, he said. There are about 250 students attending the coaching, he said. Besides, the Department

is also planning to introduce attendance monitoring apps for students. This will monitor their presence in the school and their movements from

schools, he said.

The Secretary said that to encourage teachers, the Department will felicitate teachers every year right from pre-primary level to college. This

year, only school level teachers were felicitated during Teachers' Day.

The Education Department is also in the process of dispatching new furnitures to different schools in the Islands. Schools in the remote areas

are being provided with better facilities for the comfort of students and teachers, he said adding that the Department is working towards overall

improvement of education in the Islands.

Giving details of the recruitments made by the Education Department, the Director, Shri Subhankar Ghosh said that the Department has

promoted as many as 268 teachers in August 2017, of which 106 were from PST to HM (Primary), 39 PST to GTT, 40 GTT to HM (MS) and 83 GTT

to PGT. The Department has also engaged teachers on contract basis to fill up the existing vacancies in different schools, he said. Besides, the

Department is in the process of finalizing the recruitment of regular teachers, both academic and non academic, to fill up the vacant posts. This

will also address the issues of shortage of teachers to a great extend, he added.

Disaster Management Team

yesterday.

The drill was held under the

supervision and guidance of fire

service staff headed by Shri. M.L.

Paul S.I. and fire man Shri. Chobi Lall.

The School Disaster Management

Committee aimed to educate

students about disaster

preparedness for all possible hazards

and to train them in basic disaster

response skill such as fire safety

rescue and team evacuation.

The mock drills were carried out

in the school to prepare both the

students and teachers to create

awareness on the types of hazards

cause specially by Fire. The students,

teachers, non teaching and other

staff of the school followed the

instructions carefully about the

emergency evacuation plan exits and

do's and don'ts during the mock drill,

Hence, all the traffic/ vehicle movement through the half portion of the above stretch road would be closed 10.00 pm w.e.f. 17.11.2018 till completion of the work and the traffic would be allowed in the remaining half portion of the road.
