GUIDELINES WHEN SERVING AS A LECTOR1. HANDLING THE LECTIONARY/ OTHER READING MATERIALS a. Leave the Lectionary/ Prayers of the Faithful Book at the side ledge of Ambo. b. Ensure that these do not obstruct movements of the priest (or the next reader).

2. RESPECTING THE GOSPEL BOOK a. If the Lectionary or Gospel Book was left open, close the Book and place it on its stand found on the left side of the Ambo. b. Then place your reading material on the ledge.

GUIDELINES WHEN SERVING AS A LECTOR3. 2ND RESPONSE TO PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL a. Initiate 2nd response with community after Commentator

or Priest reads the first response.

4. PROPER PACING/ INTONATION/ CLARITY OF READINGS a. Remember not to rush when delivering the reading nor be too slow in pace. b. Speak into the microphone and not away from it. c. Open mouth wider to enunciate; refrain from rolling or eating words. d. Practice ahead of time and internalize the genre of reading.

5. CONVICTION IN SAYING "THE WORD OF THE LORD“

a. State this most important statement - "The Word of the Lord" with more emphasis and conviction.

b. Practice constantly to make you feel comfortable in saying this phrase more naturally.

1. PLAY THE “COORDINATOR” ROLE a. Remember that besides being Commentators, we are also the coordinators between other ministries. b. As needed, communicate with Mass celebrant, choir and multi-media ministry. c. Communicate new things with next commentator(s) on duty. d. Clean up MLC guide book after service.

GUIDELINES WHEN SERVING AS COMMENTATOR2. NO "ALLELUIA" a. When reciting the Alleluia Verse after choir sings the "Alleluia", there is no need to say “Alleluia” before or after the verse.

3. LEAD STANDING a. When a Commentator, be on your feet while leading the community. b. Stand at the lectern when making responses such as "Thanks be to God" after each reading or "Blessed be God forever." c. Kneel when saying prayers that require kneeling.

4. TIME YOUR RESPONSES a. Watch Mass celebrant closely to be able to lead or respond at the proper time.

5. WHEN TO LEAD THE "LAMB OF GOD..." a. The "cue" to say the "Lamb of God" (if not sung or priest does not initiate it) is the fraction of the Host.

6. PLAY ONLY ONE ROLE AT MASS a. No need to sing loudly into the mic with the choir, unless no choir or response is sung.

7. 1ST RESPONSE TO PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL a. If priest does not do so, initiate 1st response to Prayer of

the Faithful.

b. If lector is not ready to make the 2nd response to the Prayer of the Faithful, say the 2nd response as well.

8. BE ALERT! ANTICIPATE! FOCUS! a. Stay alert. b. Anticipate any unforeseen circumstance and find the appropriate "ad libs", if necessary. c. Stay focused and keep an eye on celebrant every so often.

9. MEAN EACH RESPONSE/ PRAYER a. Say prayers and responses with feelings, not robotic articulations.

b. SERVE WITH YOUR HEART!
