Dear friends, As I stated in the previous issue of us, there became our mistakes and the lessons we have learned from them, along with our positive business results that we riveted with our achievements in 2017. With such experiences of us that we put in our pocket, we are now ready to run for our 2018 targets. Our 2018 targets are steered by our vision and our vision by the dynamics of the sector in which we are present. As a firm that takes place within the automotive sector, the vision of our customers and the trends and reality of the sector exhibit our long-term targets and our development areas. When it comes to the trends of automotive users and automotive producer firms who are our customers, we can summarize mega trends of the sector as follows:• Sports land vehicles (SUV) and upper segment (premium) vehicles • Electrical vehicles• Autonomous vehicles• Connectivity (communication and integration of all the components relating to the vehicle and driving with each other)• Shared vehicles Such trends in the sector push us to be better and to present more competitive products with more quality and competitiveness. The number of the sealing profiles used per vehicle is growing each year in line with those trends. It is of course positive news for us. However, the technical properties and quality that the profiles must have are also increasing and becoming more complex.While the engines are becoming silent due to the electrical and autonomous vehicles, in-vehicle acoustic comfort is becoming much more important. Lightness is standing out in vehicles and even a milligram change in a part is creating difference. In addition to all these, superior quality and competitive prices are the indispensible part of the business. In this demanding period reached by our sector, we proclaimed 2018 as the year of “excellence” for the constant improvement, sustainability, and success of our Group. During this year that we started with the slogan of X4SP: Excellence for SP, we will focus on four points in order to reach perfection: Performance, Customer, Technology, and Human. With each of us having set the target to personal excellence, we will start to do what is better with our teams first and our plant and our entire Group. What will we do to reach excellence? We will think strategically and use our time and resources in the most productive manner through accurate planning. We will work with perseverance and the focus on results and strive for reaching success and the results without being afraid of obstacles.We will be agile, we will follow up the innovations, and we will be the one not fleeing change but adapting to it or even steering it. We will never give up cooperation and team spirit. We will support each other and work as a team.We will always protect our focus on customers. We will work on providing the products and services with the best quality by taking the needs and demands of our customers into account in all processes. And of course, the most important one, we will put “human” first into the center of any business we perform. We will be proud of our differences and we will succeed and grow together. I wish that it will be a period of our attainment of our targets and addition of value to ourselves, our Group, and the world.

The keynote speech of the meeting attended by our executives from around the world

was made by our CEO Turhan Semizer. Assessing the 2017 activities of our Group, Semizer shared the 2018 strategy and plans with our executives. Our executives from the Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, China, Morocco, and Mexico locations enjoyed coming together. While our executives were happy with being face to face, the those who newly joined the Standard Profil family found the opportunity to know the Group.On the first day of the meeting, each department made its own presentation. Activities of the respective department were explained in those presentations and information regarding the example implementations and teamwork was provided. In the presentations, new opportunities of cooperation and projects were also assessed.

Stating that as the SP Group Process Engineering, they attained significant targets in 2017, Alain Philippe Flego is hopeful for 2018. Expressing that the extrusion capacity was enhanced through the innovative technologies Flego has the opinion that such works will increase our competitive power.

I n my assignment as the SP Group Process Engineering Department Director, Sergio Magalhaes, Murat

Şeker, Yavuz Yorulmaz, Bruno Remongin, and current process teams in all the SP facilities are supporting me. 2017 was a rich year in terms of senses, works, and, most of the times, success, and we had significant achievements together in industrial sense last year. If we are to exemplify from our locations one by one, we realized the installation of the online cutting module of the 2nd TP extrusion line in Langfang, China; we installed the EPDM extrusion line, equipped with four extruders in Düzce and put the use of lighter material (intense micro) into service. In Manisa, we completed the processes of installation of the “two-step” type TP extrusion line, second synchronic cut online cutting module, and the TP extrusion processes designed and produced “in-house.” We started works on the cutting line transferred with casting cells (?) at our plants in Stara Zagora in Bulgaria and Logrono in Spain. In Logrono, we also realized the installation of a cutting machine with very high speed, mounting of an extrusion filter for the improvement of the surface defects, installation of a “two-step” type TP extrusion line, and the works on the use of lighter material. Our technology to enhance our competitive powerWe conducted various works in Tanca in Morocco. There, our activities that stand out were the installation of the “multi palette” type transfer looms and implementation of the pre-industry capsuling technology. In our plant in

Cape Town, South Africa,’ we realized the installation of the “multi palette” type transfer looms. In Apaseo el Grande, Mexico, we installed third EPDM extrusion line. We can summarize our works in the SP Group as the dissemination of the weekly worldwide extrusion performance (waste) reports for the SP extrusion facilities, worldwide distribution of the flow simulation software for the extrusion industry (which started in 2017 in Düzce and Manisa), and preparation of the manufacture guidebooks in the intranet. All these technologies provide us with the opportunity of being able to conduct exchange between the SP facilities, higher standardization for using more machines, more extrusion capacity, innovative technology, in terms of increasing and sustaining our competitive power.

- Increasing the extrusion capacity in line with the increase in the market share acquired- Making use of the advantages of the investments made in the field of extrusion (extrusion speed, lighter materials)- Use of the extrusion tool simulations in more widespread manner to reduce the costs and shorten the period of development- Publication of manufacture guidebooks (lessons learned, best business practices), and ensuring that they are known and implemented in our factories.

Organized for the 4th time this year, Standard Profil Global Convention was

held on 15-16 March at Istanbul Le Meridien Hotel. In the meeting

where approximately 200 executives from all our locations took part, year

2017 for our Group was assessed and 2018 activities were determined.

Two panels were held throughout the first day. In the first panel attended by our plant managers, the issue of global footstep was handled. In addition to the activities that increase production, the things to be done to bring the social works of our Group to higher levels were discussed. In the second panel, the participants were our Group Directors. In the panel where the mega trends in automotive were addressed, discussion topic was the type of strategies that can be developed upon such developments by our Group. On the second day of the meeting, each department convened within itself. Nearly 200 executives took part in the meetings moderated by our Vice General Managers. Fourth Global Convention ended with a group activity that drove forward teamwork.

Founded in 1977 and employed seven people when it started operation, Standard Profil has turned into a global brand having placed among the leading producers of sealing profiles in the world throughout the years. It has always set the target to constant improvement and attain whatever is better, from the production to customer, relations

since the very first day of its incorporation. Standard Profil continues to put its understanding of excellence by redefining it in line with the changing conditions and needs of the day at the point that it has reached so far. Standard Profil is growing more powerfully every passing year and taking significant steps in terms of making this momentum of growth sustainable. At Standard Profil Global Convention, in which all our executives throughout the world come together, an assessment for the previous year was made as in every year. In the light of the example projects and lessons learned, the targets and priorities of our Group were determined and its roadmap was drawn. In the executive meeting held for the fourth time this year, 2018 targets were compiled under four main themes with which will carry our excellence forward. They have been determined as: “Technology”, “Customer ”, “human ” and “Performance .”

As in all processes of the Standard Profil Group, “human” is in the focus of the X4SP strategy as well. We are evaluating all the issues

ranging from the social responsibility projects to enrichment through our differences, from presenting equal opportunities to invest in our

competences, from including the new talents into our Group to create a working environment that add value for all employees of us, in the

theme of “excellence in humans.” While doing them, vocational safety is at all times our prime priority. In addition, focus

on development, creation of a supportive culture, establishment of a transparent

and bidirectional environment of communication, employee rights, and leadership are the areas that we will work on in order to reach

excellence. In line with our new strategy with which we aim to attain excellence, it is planned

to focus on talents in human resources. It is aimed to ensure both increase in the employee

happiness and attain excellence by steering all the employees

in line with their talents. At this point, expansion of the family

awareness by everyone working for the Standard Profil Group along all

the business processes is important.

The world is rapidly changing and developing. Knowing the technology trends and being aware of the developments in the world are the individual need of all of us. Technology is one of our biggest leverages for the ability to predict the requirements of our customers, improve the work we are performing, and compete. In order to excel by carrying such competence of us in technology, we are aiming to accelerate our R&D studies and increase our activities in that field, to improve the products and services, and provide such studies with momentum by means of structural enhancements. We will primarily focus on research and development studies of us primarily in our R&D centers in Düzce, Manisa, and Spain, especially in view of acoustics, weight reduction, and development of new materials. Our focal points when it comes to the developments regarding our products and processes are the TPV dynamic profiles, outer scrapers, and (bi-injection) parts with different production techniques. While improving in view of our product and production processes, we will of course continue the structural improvements and digitalization process in our support functions at full throttle. In addition to the completion of the digitalization process of our HR and Purchase processes whose foundations were laid in 2017, we will start working on improving our processes regarding Project Management and Sales on Group basis.

The cornerstones of Standard Profil’s journey for success were built on the understanding of “presenting the best the customers.” In consideration of the conjecture, speed, and competitive power of the day, the requirement of increasing the dynamism by working more and more on the four areas determined for the sustainable growth and improvement of our Group stands out. The objective is to double our power in the sector by being better in the themes of technology, customer, human, and performance. While the making the global brand of our Group shine out through all kinds of improvements in those four areas, it is aimed to enhance all social stakeholders of us, such as, primarily the Standard Profil employees, as well as the suppliers, customers, and the society.

In our sector where a thorny environment of competition is present, it is inevitable for us to meet the demands and

requirements of our customers in order to survive. The world’s biggest automobile producers are among the

customers of our Group. Our cooperation with most of our customers have been ongoing for many years. Expansion of the customer portfolio and projects by means of expanding

along new markets stands out as the significant target in the roadmap identified by Standard Profil. Riveting the Group’s

power in Europe into Asia and America constitutes out near-future vision. In this sense, happy customer means new

projects and businesses. Excellence in the case of customers, superior quality, project management,

closeness to the customer, and increase of the service quality in

the areas of servicing are very important. Consideration of

CUSTOMER We are aiming to take steps that will increase our performance in order to attain excellence in all these areas. Those steps contain the attainment of maximum performance in the business processes like vocational health and safety, lean production, quality, sustainable performance, information safety, crisis management, and digitalization. Development of the lean culture is important in terms of enhancing our performance within the meaning of the expansion of the best examples on Group basis. In our understanding of business conduct, “the focus on reducing cost,” a discipline of working with “cost awareness” that does not compromise quality but remembers the importance of them in terms of the competitiveness of costs will constitute our basis viewpoint. In order to increase our individual, unit-based, and Group -based performance, strategic thinking, result generation, agility, cooperation, and customer focus will be our priorities.

The Quality Department is acting in a stabilized order in all the SP locations. A standard structure in the business definitions, business processes, and manners of conducting business has

been created. Volkan Deveci explains that works are being carried out accompanied by guides in all the locations and that the works are performed in a uniform manner: “As the Turkish

proverb goes, ‘Every valiant man has different manner of eating yoghurt,’ which is not the case in us. In all the business phases, same standard is followed everywhere. This provides

us with a strong and corporate viewpoint. We have weekly and monthly reporting systems. This way, we can see the pace

and accurateness of the progress of the strategy we have established.” Quality Department has been recently working

on strengthening the problem solving systematic. In this scope, problem solving teams are being established. Objective

is to produce fast solutions by means of using the problem solving methods in line with the impact of the issue.

In order to reinforce the communication of the Department within itself, good examples acquired with the other departments are being utilized. The target of such innovations is to increase the speed and dynamism on all stages of the business.

QUALITY INSPECTION WITH A SINGLE kEY Quality Department consists of a young and dynamic team. Trainings are being held for the purpose of increasing the motivation and experience of the team. This spirit of livelihood and innovation is reflecting into every stage of the business: “In the past, inspections were being held through conventional methods and our inspectors were conducting their assignments with thick files in their hands. We have developed a mobile phone application. They start inspections getting rid of the paperwork with the single-key entries in digital environments and fast. They are being motivated and they do not deal with bureaucracy. The new generation is using the digital environment very well, we must pave the way for them.”

I have been working for Standard Profil for approximately six years. I have taken part in many different projects so far. We are a powerful team when it comes to quality both globally and within Düzce. The communication between us is getting stronger and stronger each passing day. In the Project Quality unit, we are encountering numerous problems on the preliminary serial phases of projects. We are conducting tolerance test at this stage and negotiate them with the customers. The business has such difficulties but on the other hand there is the separate happiness of solving a problem. Standard Profil is my first workplace and I have acquired very important experiences. I am proud of working at a corporate firm.

I am a mechanical engineer. I have been working for SP for five years. Our customers are Toyota, Volkswagen, and Audi. We are working on different projects with our three large customers; we are making the assessment of their views regarding quality and follow-up of the products. We are striving to dispatch

error-free products to our customers taking part among the biggest brands of the world. I am thinking that we get things done well in this regard; our customers are content. We are in a team spirit in the plant. We are handling a problem altogether. As I like automotive, I keep track of every stage of a job with pleasure. Working for a worldwide brand is additionally a motivating condition for me.

I have graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Geophysics Engineering and then I completed my postgraduate studies at İTÜ Engineering Management. I have

been a member of the SP family for approximately nine years. I am working with all plants of us. My assignment is the standard conduct of business globally

by the quality organization, distribution of the targets, and follow-up of the inspections and manner of performing such inspections. We will have more

proactive approach in 2018. For example, we are putting the express inspection software into service. As the Quality Department, we are a team that is in

constant communication with all our locations. We have exchanges other than the business in our weekly meetings. For example, in Düzce, we can welcome

something shared by a friend cheerfully. I am travelling a lot, which is both difficult and absolutely pleasurable. Standard Profil is an indication of prestige in the automotive sector and I am happy with being here; I do my job with pleasure.

I am a Chemical Engineer. I have been in the Standard Profil family for approximately three years. I am in charge of all quality stages from the raw material input to the output of the final product. Our works expand along all business processes like the product quality, process quality, customer, raw material quality, tests to be conducted, and laboratories. Approximately 1500 people are employed at our Düzce Plant: We have nine customers; we are ensuring the reach of the products to the customers with the required quality. Having a global structure has substantial advantages. The experiences of all the plants create huge synergy and are reflected into quality and the pace of the job being performed. In our plants we have started to adopt the understanding of “quality is not the business of quality, it is the business of production.” This understanding ensures that the work is exhibited in an error-free manner from scratch without requiring us to find the errors. We have a very young team and their energy is making me very happy. Working for SP means high adrenalin and stress but at the same time happiness for me.

Having a global structure has substantial advantages

I have graduated from Gazi University Chemical Engineering Department. I also had my postgraduate degree in the field of chemistry. Presently I am doing PhD on plastics. Throughout my working life, I have worked in the plastics-related fields. My assignment is the follow-up of our suppliers by means of inspections and supporting them though trainings. We keep track of the source of an identified error. We are playing detective in a sense. We are determining the respective enhancements and the areas of applying them trying to understand whether the error arise from us or the supplier. In all locations, we have suppliers at all corners of the world and, therefore, we are working very intensely. The data in all the plants are reaching us and, this way, we find the opportunity for seizing what is best by means of comparisons. I consider this as the advantage of being a global brand. SP is the largest workplace I have been worked for so far. I hope I will have the opportunity to work for it many years to come.

We celebrated the 8 March Women’s Day of our working and producing laborer women with the same excitement and enthusiasm at all locations of us. We organized events for that day for our women of our Standard Profil family, which operates in eight countries in five continents. Our women were welcomed with flowers in all plants of us and we wanted to make the memory of this beautiful day unforgettable via little gifts. Our executives in all locations shared their wishes for the women of the world in equality, development, and more peaceful living conditions. Perhaps worst of all, time we used to spend with each other is now often wasted in congestion and traffic. Thirty years ago, we spent an average of 16 hours in traffic per year. Now, we spend 38 hours. The price we paid for the freedom to move was the creation of a world where roads were built for cars.Today, the transport systems of most global cities have reached capacity. Before cars, city streets acted as bustling social hubs where neighbors and families could gather, vendors could sell their goods and children could play. Over time, parks and public spaces were sacrificed

for parking lots and highways and cities came to be associated with social isolation. Streets comprise one-third of public land in our cities. By developing smart vehicles for a smart world, we can reverse this trend and return these valuable resources to the people.Now is our opportunity to reclaim the streets for living — to take major leaps in the direction of building a true City of Tomorrow and re-imagine how our streets and cities function much more efficiently. With the power of AI and the rise of autonomous and connected vehicles, we have technology capable of a complete disruption and redesign of the surface transportation system for the first time in a century. Everything from parking, traffic flow and goods delivery can be radically improved — reducing congestion and allowing cities to transform roads into more public spaces.That is why Ford is taking a user-centered, systems-level design approach to mobility. We need to step back

and look broadly at how the overall transportation operating system can help us all lead better, more productive lives. It is not good enough to just implement this new technology without first fully understanding how it is going to make people’s lives better. We need to get this new design right.How do we do that? We have begun by collaborating with cities, civic organizations, urban planners, technologists and designers around the world to develop new ways of moving people and goods.The challenge is enormous. We are talking about orchestrating the entire transportation network that is already woven into the fabric of our urban environments and civic life. But it is a task we must undertake because the old system is failing. We will re-affirm our shared humanity and build communities that inspire and support all of us. That is the kind of sharing economy we need.

As stAndArd Profil, we are aiming to ensure the participation and contribution of all our employees from every level for sustainable achievements. In line with that target, we have established a modern and fair recommendation system where our employees can provide their volunteer participations in the constant improvement activities. In the course of establishing the SP Recommendation System, we made contacts with numerous companies and made use of their experiences. Our target is to receive improvement suggestions first but, more importantly, to provide our company with added value by putting those recommendations into practice. We wanted the name of our recommendation system to be special too. The three names short-listed for the finals in the questionnaire and project group study we conducted for this purpose were presented to all participants of the SP Global Convention for approval and the winner became MAGIC. Executed by the HR and SPPS, MAGIC will be initiated for the first time as a pilot at our Düzce and Manisa 1 plants. Subsequently, its dissemination along the entire Group will be realized by the local HR and SPPS teams as well. The introductions of the basic principles of the system and Kaizen trainings will be provided at the locations. We invite everyone to take part in MAGIC for the yield of magical results to all of us by the recommendation system, which is an indispensible part of the automotive industry.

WhILE clearing the decks for Standard Profil in its journey towards future, we started to improve the Talent Management processes from Performance Management. We first worked with our human Resources teams in each country to promote the targets like the inclusion of the employees into the Performance Management process more and more, enrichment of dialogue with the executives, and increase of communication. At the Global Convention, following the “Training of the Trainers” workshop we organized with our human Resources executives, we reviewed our works on both the performance management

process and the Success Power Center, our new performance software, together. In Turkey, we came together with our executives in Istanbul, Düzce, and Manisa. We both introduced the Success Power Center and analyzed the issue of “target

setting,” the most important step of Performance Management. Our trainer Kemal İslamoğlu explained how important tool the performance process is in team development together with our executives also in Bulgaria after Turkey, with practices. After the executives, our Performance Management trainings will continue with the trainings of our white collar employees in all locations of us.

First, welcome to Turkey. Would you introduce yourself a little bit?I work for the Door Engineering Design team of Hyundai Motor Group R&D Department. I am married and I have two sons with the age of four and one. My family lives on the island of Jeju in South Korea.

Would you tell us about the reason of your coming to Turkey and what you will do at Standard Profil?I have come for the basic study in regards to the relation between sealing strip design parameters and vehicle performance. I would like to develop an appraisal method and design for the standard structure on the basis of that study.

When did you feel when you first arrived in Turkey? I like Turkey’s history. I could feel the depth of the history of Turkey even in the neighborhood streets. Korea’s

famous patriot said: “There is no tomorrow for the people who have forgotten their history.” I hope Turkey will keep and memorize historical things.

What were the things you liked most and found it difficult to get used to most in Turkey?I was grateful for the warmth & hospitality. And the serious traffic Jam of Istanbul was the first impression. The thing I found it most difficult was to find a taxi and tell about what I wanted.

What’s your working environment like? What would you tell about your workmates?In Korea, I was technical leader for sealing systems, and I was supported from Junior Engineers to solve issues & set the design Philosophy. I want to say to my Turkish colleagues about what we should say or report, “First we should say What our listener wants to

listen instead of what I want to say. If you want to say What you want, You should make the listener wonder and ask the question what you want say.

What are your opinions about Standard Profil?Standard Profil is not the best supplier for seals in the world, but I think it has the qualities to be the best in the next 10 years. I think that SP supplies appropriate-quality products properly. I believe that the diligent culture of Standard Profil will make you special in all over the world.

The efforts of the entire Standard Profil Bulgaria management team are aimed at preventing risks and at ensuring safe and healthy working conditions. With the results of this policy, the loss of time encountered due to the accidents experienced in the last two years remained at low levels. These developments demonstrate concretely that the steps are taken toward the right direction.

Informatory posters that appeal to working safety and to protecting health are present in various areas in the plant. In the territory where the plant is situate, there is an equipped health center and an on-duty medical officer three times a week.Every year, prophylactic medical examinations are planned and conducted. The analyses performed upon the prophylactic examinations are used for the development of the preventive programs oriented to health and occupational diseases. Blood donation campaigns are organized.In 2017, SP Bulgaria applied for and was approved from a European health and safety project.The staff of SP Bulgaria is provided with the free use of sports fields and facilities for fitness.

SettInG hIGh StAndArdS for All equIPment SuPPlIerS: Any new equipment must have the appropriate marking, technical documentation, and certificates that it is safe to use and it meets the applicable European requirements.

SeCurIty of mAChIneS: Any newly purchased or modified equipment will be put into operation after an assessment of its safety use and a positive opinion from the HSE.

ContInuouS ImProvement: Thanks to the work of the Project Development and Technical departments, a number of improvements that directly affect health and safety at work have been made.

rISk ASSeSSment: In order to ensure the health of employees, the lighting of each workplace, noise level for the key equipment, and microclimate in production areas are measured annually.

workInG CondItIonS CommIttee (wCC): The functioning of the Working Conditions Committee is part of the process of integrating workers and employees into the overall policy on safety and health at work. In fact, it is a form of social partnership that relies on workers’ direct interest in thinking about their safety and health at work. WCC discusses every quarter the overall health protection and worker safety and propose measures to improve them.

trAInInGS: Standard Profil Bulgaria has built a well-functioning system for training relating to the official duties of workers and health and safety commitments. The Health&safety training starts with hiring of the employee and continues throughout the period in which he/she works for the company. The initial safety training is also subject to any visitor and contractor who intends to carry out activities on our territory. A training film on initial safety training, flyers and factory tickets have been prepared to ensure that every person admitted to the factory has received the minimum safety and emergency information.

emerGenCy PlAn: Standard Profil Bulgaria has an approved Emergency Plan. Every year a practical training of the plan with the participation of all employees is carried out. The company maintains a trained team of employees who can provide first aid.
