Adam has wrien “How to Get Suspended and Influence People,” and “I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It.” He also runs 300+ bus tours per year for Chicago Haunngs. Freaky Mutaons Monday, October 13 th at 6:30 p.m. Make your own franken-zombie or vamp-wolf! Use materials provided to create your own freaky mutant! Bring in an old stuffed animal or toy to mutate. Guess How Many Contest

Guess how many candy corns are in the jar for the month of Octo-ber. Whoever guesses the closest without going over will win a prize. One guess per child.

Length Sweet Treats for Toddlers Friday, October 17th at 10:00 am Ages: 18-36 months; Caregiver must be present Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This special storytime will celebrate the Cookie Monster’s favorite treat! We will share stories, songs and rhymes all about cookies. YUM YUM!

Bilingual Preschool Storytime (Polish & English) Friday, October 17th and 24th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3-5; (not in kindergarten) Child attends alone Limit: 20 Length: 40 minutes

Join us for stories, finger plays, songs, and fun! Children ages 3-5 years

old will build early literacy skills in preparation for kindergarten. Sto-

rytime will be held in both Polish and English. Child attends alone.

Read For the Record with Max & Ruby Tuesday, October 21st at 4:00 p.m. Ages 3-5; (not in kindergarten) with parent or caregiver Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes People across the country will unite to read the children’s book Bunny Cakes, a comical story of sibling bonding and birthday shenanigans by bestselling author and illustrator Rosemary Wells, in support of working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Come share with us in this worldwide event!

Science Sprouts Thursday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3-5 (not in kindergarten); Child attends alone Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Do you know there are geometric shapes all over? Join us as we explore

geometric shapes. Children will learn to recognize shapes around them

and name the parts of a shape.

Halloween Hunt Thursday, October 23rd at 4:00 p.m. Grades: 3-4 Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

Put on your huntin’ gear and come along for a ghost hunt! We’ll be mak-ing eerie creatures and havin’ some spooky fun. There will be a treat for all who come. Boo-oo-oo!!

Creepy Crawly Craft Thursday, October 30th at 6:30 p.m. Ages: 6-12; if child is 8 years or younger, an adult over 16 must be present to help with the craft. Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes Come and make a creepy looking Halloween craft to spook your friends. Materials will be provided.

LEGO Club Saturday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3-12 Limit: 30 Length: 45 minutes Imagine, create, BUILD! Join us for LEGO fun. We provide the Legos,

and you provide the imagination. All materials must stay at the li-

brary, so parents bring a camera to capture your child’s creations.

Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in pro-

gram room.

Wilderness Survival

Thursday, October 9th at 6:30 p.m.

Grades: 4-6

Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

Calling all adventurers! What would you do if you lost your trail on a

day hike or came across a bear? Would you survive the wilderness?

Come and test your survival skills.

Sensory Storytime Friday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. Ages 3-5 (not in kindergarten); Child attends alone Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes The senses of touch, sight, smell taste and hearing are how young children learn and explore. Preschoolers will learn using their five sense with stories, songs and special hands on activities!

Mad Scientists: Geometry of Goal Scoring Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. Grades: 3-5 Limit: 15 Length: 1 hour

Do you know there’s math and science in the sports we play? Take

hockey for example. Stick handling, shooting, passing, and goaltend-

ing use math. Join us as we explore angle usage and geometry as key

parts in mastering the game..

Thursday, October 16th at 4:00 p.m.

Grades: 2-3

Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

Join us for some Halloween fun. We’ll play a game, make pop-up

Halloween Centerpiece Craft Thursday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. Create a humorous Halloween “stage scene” featuring “The Bones” duo. No bones about it, you’ll have a fright-fully hilarious time with Kathleen Obirek, floral designer and educator. Dare you to attend! All materials will be provided This program is limited to 20 participants. This event is free but advance registration is required. PTPLD patrons have priority and may register one guest.

Mysterious Monsters of Illinois Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Cryptozoologist Terry Fisk will talk

about the many Illinois reports of strange creatures. Some are non-native animals such as kangaroos, panthers, and lions. Others are supernatural, such as phantoms, were-wolves, and vampires. Many of the beasts are of unknown origin, including Bigfoot, lake monsters, and thunder-birds. The discussion includes the Big Muddy Monster of Murphysboro, the Kickapoo Creek Monster, the Enfield Horror, and the Tuttle Bottoms Monster. Fisk will share illustrations, photos, case histories and eyewitness ac-counts and talk about some of the cases he has personally

investigated. This event is free but advance registration is required.

You must be 12+ to attend.

Blood Pressure Screening Wednesday, October 8 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Stickney Township Health Clinic professionals will be

here to provide free blood pressure screening. This event is free.

October 2014 Adult Programs

Scary Movie Marathon!!! Saturday, October 18 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. We will be showing scary movies all day. Stop in for a feature or stay all day. Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (9:30 a.m.), House on Haunted Hill (11:00 a.m.), World War Z (12:20 p.m.) and John Carpen-ter’s Vampires (2:30 p.m.). There will be light refresh-ments and prizes throughout the day.

This event is free. You must be 18+ to attend.

The Essential Edgar Allan Poe Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. William Pack explores the tragic life and remarkable writings of the American genius

Edgar Allan Poe, with dramatic storytelling, readings and his signature performances that bring Poe’s disturbing poetry and stories to life.

This event is free but advance registration is required. You must be 12+ to attend.

Boo Bingo After Dark Tuesday, October 28 at 7:oo p.m. A special scary night time edition of Bingo! Prizes will be awarded to game winners. Mysterious surprises for players wearing a costume. Get in the spirit, dress up in costume, and have fun!
