P&C Update

Reports Go Home This Week This week you will be receiving your child’s Semester One academic progress report. Re-

ports are a summary of the academic and social achievements that your child has made

so far this year. Your child's report will also reflect his/her efforts in learning and general

capabilities associated with being a student and how he/she is achieving at school. You

will probably have one of three possible reactions:

The report reflects exactly how I thought my child would be going at school.

The report seems to be better than what I expected, based on what I see my child

doing at home.

The report reads as though my child isn't performing as well at school, compared to

what I see at home.

Please be mindful that reports reflect what teachers assess based on what they see and

hear in classroom contexts.

Children are different at home and what you see isn't always the same as what teachers

see. This is not a reason to be concerned, rather a reflection on life. We all perform and

act differently in different contexts. Just as the way you are at work is often different to

the way you are at home children can appear different at home compared to when they

are at school. No matter what your child's report states, be positive about his/her

achievements and supportive about where he/she can improve. Children are like sponges

- your comments will remain with them long-term. Be praiseworthy, positive and loving

when you discuss their progress with them. If you have a concern, still remain positive in

your comments. You have millions of reasons to be proud of your child so celebrate his/

her growth and achievement. If you have any questions about your child’s report, please

discuss at the upcoming parent/teacher interview or phone the school to make an ap-

pointment to speak with your child’s classroom teacher.

School Uniform High Standards

The students at Wideview Public School always look great in their uniforms. Thank you

parents for ensuring your children look outstanding each day. With the weather confirm-

ing winter conditions we now expect that all students will be wearing full winter uniform.

The girls have options for the winter uniform and may choose which ever option suits

them.

It’s almost here Have you noticed the seats behind the Kindergarten rooms? They are looking brand new

thank you to Mary Savage and Sally Freeman who, spent their Saturday scrubbing and

power washing them. Their efforts were part of the Winter Wonderland preparations for

this Sunday. If you haven’t done so already wrist bands are still available at the early bird

special until tonight.

Please support the fete committee, who have spent an inordinate amount of time prepar-

ing an spectacular event for you, by attending on Sunday 30th June from 10am -3pm.

What better way can we thank them?

Term 2 Rugby Report

Last week Ben D represented Hornsby/Ryde Zone when he trialled for se-

lection in the Sydney North Rugby Union team. He competed against 120

boys for selection in this side and has now been picked for the Sydney

North team!! He was the only player from our area that was chosen and he

competed against boys from as far as the Central Coast down to the North-

ern Beaches and out to Ryde. He will train now with the team until the end

of August where he will compete in a 3 day tournament in Richmond to be

potentially selected for a NSW team!

Ben has been a great ambassador for Hornsby Zone and he has done his

family, community and Wideview Public School proud!!

Congratulations Ben and good luck at the NSW trials!!

Congratulations also to our Larsen Cup winning Rugby League team who will be going to the State Cup on

Wednesday August 7. Our students will be representing North Sydney and will play against the best teams

in NSW. The State Cup will be held in the Penrith area (at a venue still to be confirmed). Mr Parkes will be

handing out permission notes early next term and will also need parents to help with transport on the day.

Let’s wish Max C, Christian M, Kieran M, Jacob C, Kaelem A, Blake D, James F (c), Sam B, Jed D, Dylan Y,

Jett M and Hayden B, all the best for the upcoming championships!!

Mr Parks & Ian Thomas

Sydney North Area Cross Country Last Friday, Jessica K represented Hornsby Zone when she competed at the Sydney North Area Cross Country at Gosford. In freezing conditions Jess competed against about 80 girls in her age group. She was determined to do even better than last year and finished in 16 position! An amazing effort as she competed against runners from as far as the Central Coast down to the beaches and out to Ryde and everywhere in between. Fantastic effort Jess we are very proud of you!!

Stage 3 literacy day “who dunnit?”

There was much chatter and excitement on Tuesday morning as Wideview students arrived at school to

discover a crime of unbelievable proportions that had been committed. An ancient book had been stolen

from Wideview Library that set a chain reaction of events causing a number of characters to come back to

life!

In reality, Stage 3 participated in a fun and engaging day to inspire, motivate and capture the student’s

imaginations in the “The Case of the Missing Book”. The suspects were real and vibrant. There was Alice in

Wonderland, the Wicked Witch, the Big Bad Wolf, Mama Bear and a potential insider job with our own

librarian Mr Smith. Sherlock Holmes and the Queen of Hearts led the investigation guiding the students to

look at evidence, settings, characters and the magic of words. Students worked for the whole day in ro-

tating groups, culminating in writing their very own Narratives at the end of the day and throughout the

rest of the week.

The students enjoyed the tale as well as the crime scenes depicting the mystery of it all. We are yet to

hear who our thief was! We will keep you posted.

Thank you to all the Stage 3 teachers as well as Mrs McNally and Mrs Anthonisz who made the story come

alive. They went above and beyond creating the magic of literature. A fabulous day was had by all!

Lost Property

Once again we have an accumulated amount of lost property and we need the assistance of parents to col-

lect any items there. Please go to the walk through area of the rooms at the end of KH. This is facing the

playground equipment at the front of the school. At the close of term, Friday 5 July, all remaining items

will go to either the uniform shop to be sold as second hand uniforms, or to a clothing charity if non-school

items. Non clothing items will be disposed of.

CAKE STALL The Cake Stall is traditionally one of the most popular (and profitable!) stalls at the fete… but we need baked goodies to sell! Your child came home with a cake box last Friday, and we would love you to fill it with something – a cake, slices, biscuits, muffins, cupcakes or any other sweet take-away treats to sell. Please drop off your baked delights to the WOOSHC building on Saturday from 10am-12pm or 3-5pm, or from 7-9am Sunday morning. No cars are allowed on the school grounds, so please park on the street and walk your box to the WOOSHC building.

GETTING TO THE FETE We expect large numbers of visitors from the wider community to attend the fete, so if you live within comfortable walking distance of the school, we would strongly encourage you to walk to the fete to re-duce traffic congestion and parking headaches.

There will be a dedicated ‘drop zone’ on Wideview Road between the school gate and pedestrian cross-ing, if you need to drop people off before finding a car park.

ATM As there will be lots of ‘cash only’ market stalls at the fete, be sure to stock up on cash before you arrive. But if you run out, rest assured that we’ll have a mobile ATM for top ups, located at the end of the car park near the School Hall.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED There are still a number of Volunteer Roles that need filling. We need YOUR help, just for an hour or so. Let’s make this event smooth sailing for all our visitors! Choose your job & time slot here: https://signup.com/go/QjXYbxQ

HELP SPREAD THE WORD! To make Winter Wonderland a huge success, we want YOU to help us spread the word about this awe-some family-friendly day. The more people who attend, the more money we will ultimately raise for Wideview Public School (for our kids!). So please share the Facebook event listing on your own personal page or on any Facebook community pages or groups (for example high schools, childcare centres, kids classes, sporting clubs): https://www.facebook.com/events/250404492380938/

VOTE NOW: CHARITY SUPPORT This year, we’ve decided to donate 10% of all profits made from the Winter Wonderland Wideview Fete to charity, and we’d love you help to choose who to support. We raised around $37,000 in 2017 and we’re hoping to raise a similar amount (or more!) in 2019.

100% of the bidding funds is going directly back to Wideview Public School, so if it’s something you’d buy anyway, or whether you just want to treat yourself to something fun, why not make a bid in the Online Auction?

So, take a look at all the prizes up for grabs, and start bidding! www.32auctions.com/wideviewfete2019

THANK YOU! Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to Winter Wonderland – to all the class liaisons

who are organising a stall, to all the parents and teachers who have volunteered to work on the day, to all

the businesses who have come on board as sponsors, donated prizes or their services. A phenomenal

amount of time and effort goes into organising an event of this scale, and we couldn’t have done it without

this amazing school community.

Thanks everyone and see you at Winter Wonderland!

Best wishes, The Winter Wonderland Fete Committee

In Non-Fete P&C News

Very exciting news - Canteen Upgrade A small committee has been working behind the scenes on a canteen upgrade, following the receipt of the grant from the government late last year. We’re excited to announce that at the last P&C meeting we voted unanimously to upgrade the canteen, this will see the canteen space double in size creating a much better working environment for our Canteen Manager and all our wonderful volunteers and future proofing the Canteen for growth. Michelle, our Canteen Manager, is working with the department of Education on the timing of this but we’re hoping to have this completed by the end of the year. Thank you to all who have been involved in this project so far.

2019 Tax Deductible Donation to the P&C

In last week’s newsletter, we asked for our 2019 donations, we understand it’s a busy time of year with the

fete and lots of people are stretched with Storm Damage. If you are in a position to be able to help the fi-

nancially, anything is greatly appreciated. Our trybooking donation page is open for donations via credit

card, link is here: https://www.trybooking.com/WQEF

Or for those of you who prefer bank transfer, details are:

Wideview P&C

BSB 633000

Account number 163071582

We suggest a payment of $50 per child up to $100 per family but are more than happy for people to consid-

er more. This year’s donations will be going straight to the canteen upgrade.

Thanks
