Term 4 Week 8
Sandy Ryan,
Principal
Merits for 2020
Final reminder that the last day to
hand in merits of any colour for 2020
is Friday 4th December. From week 9
Monday 7th December, any merits
handed out will go towards 2021’s
count.
Presentation Day Wednesday
December 9th
We request that all students be in
full school uniform for this official K -
11 event. As stated in last week’s
newsletter, unfortunately due to the
requirements around the 4 square
metre rule that apply to end of year
presentations, we are only able to fit
a limited number in our hall. With
this in mind, we have changed our
end of year presentation to a day
event where only staff and students
will be in attendance. We are looking
to record the event to share with our
school community. The link to the
recording will be sent out on
SkoolBag and further details will
follow in next week’s
newsletter. Thank you for your
understanding around the
changes made as a result of
NSW Department of Education
COVID procedures.
Hillston Central School

will participate in our School
NAIDOC Day on Wednesday 9th
December. Our presentation
day assembly will be held
periods 1 & 2 with alternative
events taking place between
periods 3 – 6. These activities
will involve participation in
activities including Aboriginal
art, games and cultural
conversations.
Times Tables Challenge
Over recent weeks our school has been
a buzz with sounds of times table being
learnt for instant recall. The morning of
Tuesday 8th December will see the
final challenge as we search for HCS’s
times tables champion. Thanks goes to
Mr Malone our Head Teacher,
Teaching and Learning for coordinating
the event.

doz.

may do so by dropping off your donation to the front office.
The 91 Storey Treehouse
Year 4/5 enjoyed their trip to the Griffith Regional Theatre last
Tuesday to watch a performance of The 91-Storey Treehouse.
Exposure to the Performing Arts is an important part of our
school curriculum.
Escaping the Heat
Our school Library has been a hive of activity at lunch times.
Students young and old are enjoying Christmas colouring in,
board games, reading, Minecraft and socialising in our air-
conditioned comfort.
NAIDOC Celebrations
We will be celebrating NAIDOC Day on Wednesday the 9th
December.
SCHOOL NEWS Year 10 Work Experience
Students were presented with their Ready for Work Experience
Certificates. They have thoroughly studied and prepared
themselves with the skills needed for the work place. We wish
them all the best for next week and hope they return with the skills
they need for their future careers.

Enormous Honey Project
Last year, Years One and Two worked very hard to complete an
enormous honey project for the CWA. They achieved HIGHLY
COMMENDED for the combined project.
History's Dark Side
As part of understanding World War 2, Stage 5 History have
been learning about Stolpersteine, or stumbling stones.
More than 75,000 of these memorial stones remember
Holocaust victims in the world's largest memorial project.
They can be found in the pavement outside the former
homes of victims across Europe. This stone remembers David
Jacobs, a Jewish man from Sögel in North-West Germany.
Students appreciated learning about and showing respect for
Jewish and other victims of one of history's darkest time.
PRIMARY AWARDS Students received awards for Student of the Week, Magic Mathematicians, Sportsmanship Awards, Inspirational
Awards, Silver Awards, Citizenship Awards and Gold Awards.
And don’t forget that Friday the 4th of December is the last day for students to hand in merits of any colour
for 2020! After that they will go towards the 2021 count.
