When to Resume vs. Resume Upload During testing, Test Coordinators and Test Administrators may need to use the Resume or Resume Upload status options to allow students to continue testing in a section that was previously started, but not completed. Resume will be used in most situations: A student receives a TestNav error message and appears in Exited status in PearsonAccess next but needs to continue testing on the same testing device. A student signed out of TestNav (either intentionally or unintentionally) before submitting final answers for the section or signed out due to an emergency (e.g., illness). Note: If a student successfully signs out of the test, the student can resume testing on any other device without losing response data. Test Coordinators should develop a plan for tracking which computers or devices each student uses to test. It is best practice to have students resume on the same computer. For tablets and Chromebooks, students MUST resume testing on the same device. Resume Upload is only used in rare circumstances when TestNav cannot find a Student Response File (SRF) (e.g., a student has changed testing devices and the SRF is saved to an external drive to move to the new device). When this situation occurs, an error code will appear on the student’s testing device, and the Test Administrator should record the specific error code that appears. A list of error codes can be found through TestNav Online Support. Resume Upload status directs the user to browse for an SRF on the testing machine when the student signs back in to continue testing. If this occurs, a Test Administrator should contact the School Test Coordinator or Technology Coordinator to complete this process. Note 1: In PearsonAccess next , users will not initially have the option to select Resume Upload for students in Exited status. Instead, users will need to Resume the student first. Note 2: There are rare occasions when a student needs to be resumed, but may still be listed in Active status (e.g., when a computer is powered off during testing). When this happens, the only option that can be chosen is Resume Upload due to TestNav not being able to communicate with PearsonAccess next when the student is exited from the test.

Resume and Resume Upload

The purpose of this document is to provide information on how and when to use Resume and Resume

Upload on the Students in Sessions screen in PearsonAccessnext.

When to Resume vs. Resume Upload

During testing, Test Coordinators and Test Administrators may need to use the Resume or Resume Upload

status options to allow students to continue testing in a section that was previously started, but not completed.

Resume will be used in most situations:

A student receives a TestNav error message and appears in Exited status in PearsonAccessnext but needs to continue testing on the same testing device.

A student signed out of TestNav (either intentionally or unintentionally) before submitting final answers

for the section or signed out due to an emergency (e.g., illness).

Note 1: In PearsonAccessnext, users will not initially have the option to select Resume Upload for students in Exited status. Instead, users will need to Resume the student first.

Note 2: There are rare occasions when a student needs to be resumed, but may still be listed in Active status

(e.g., when a computer is powered off during testing). When this happens, the only option that can be chosen

is Resume Upload due to TestNav not being able to communicate with PearsonAccessnext when the student

is exited from the test.

Resuming Multiple Students

When students are ready to resume an exited session, the Test Administrator will need to unlock the session using the lock toggle. Students will be displayed in an unlocked Exited status.

Check the box for all students who need to be resumed on the Students in Session screen. To select all students in the session at once, select the box in the header row. You may also search for students in the Find Students search bar.

Select Resume Student Tests from the Select Tasks drop-down menu.

Select Start.

On the Resume Student Tests screen: Select the individual student(s) that need to be resumed. You can resume all listed students by selecting the box next in the header row to choose all students. Select Resume to start the task.

Do not need to be set to Resume Upload, the students can sign in to TestNav to resume testing.

Need to be set to Resume Upload, continue with the following steps.

Only continue with these steps if the test must be set to Resumed Upload.

Once the student is in a Resumed status, the Test Administrator can access the drop-down from the Student Test Status to select Resume Upload.

Student Test Status for multiple students cannot be set to Resume Upload en masse. This step must be completed student-by-student from the Student Test Status drop-down option.

Resuming One Student at a Time If the student is in Exited status and will not be returning for the day, lock the session for only that student using the drop-down next to the Student Test Status. This will place the student test in a locked Exited status.

To resume and unlock the student test, click the drop-down under the Exited section and select Resume. Then, click the drop-down and select Unlock.
