FALL 2013Recruiting Guide

REASONSTO JOIN TOWER

1. You’ll make a difference

2. We learn & grow together

3. We have a strong vision

4. We celebrate diversity

5. Turn passion into action

Another year is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited to start adding new

associates to our Tower family. Before you start conducting classroom presentations, I ask you to remember what made you apply to this unique organization.

Was it how it would look on your resume? Was it the promise of helping you develop as a PR professional? Perhaps it was your passion to working with nonprofits? Heck, maybe your best friend kept nagging you to apply and you finally did.

Whatever that reason may be, I ask you to be aware that you are an ambassador of Texas Tower PR. As you recruit new members, remember to project your own passions and show them why you

joined this organization.

You have the responsibility to inspire and motivate prospective candidates into applying to our organization.

I keep using the word passion because that’s one of the words that describes my commitment to Texas Tower PR and to you guys, my outstanding team. I want to see each and every single one of you succeed and I want to see us succeed.

Starting this fall, we are treating Tower as its own brand. Our officers will be working hard to ensure our brand is being represented well at all times and through various channels.

Use this guide as you brand Tower to your friends and fellow classmates. It’s pivotal that we have one clear message and that it’s consistent throughout our recruitment period.

Let’s go forward and get ourselves another class of communication rockstars and PR ninjas.

DOING SOCIALBUSINESS

“Why do you love your parents? You love them because they loved you first.”

If we want to be good at social media, we need to show our users love FIRST. Why should they like our page or follow us on Twitter?

texastowerpr.wordpress.comOur official website is the hub of all information for candidates, prospective clients and our external audiences. Social media efforts always direct our audiences back to our website. The site houses up-to-date information on our organization and relevant PR content.

@TexasTowerPR140-character updates contain hashtags like #JoinTheTower and shortened bit.ly links to track our posts’ performance. Our posts both inform about our organization and our industry, celebrate our nonprofit clients and spread news about the University and College of Communication.

facebook.com.texastowerprPosts with links and pictures are proven to have better engagement. Another source of Tower news, Facebook is a dynamic platform that carries a big weight of our publicity efforts. Bit.ly links help us track performance of posts and so do Facebook’s native analytics feature.

linkedin.com/company/texas-tower-prOn the professional spectrum of social media, LinkedIn is a portal to Austin’s PR professionals. Ideal for networking and projecting our more corporate tone, posts with links and pictures perform better than plain-text posts. This network is vital during recruitment season.

instagram.com/texastowerprThe newest in Tower’s suite of social accounts, Instagram offers a behind-the-scenes and exclusive look at the happenings of our organization. Relevant hashtags should always be applied.

Classroom PresentationsYou’ve built rapport with professors in the College of Communication and now it’s time to use that to our advantage. As long as you give them a couple of days’ notice, they’ll be happy to let you speak for a couple of minutes before their lecture.

Your Own Social ChannelsStudies show that audiences trust posts and reviews from their friends than from brand pages. Texas Tower PR can provide you with a complete social media strategy, complete with tweets and stock images, to engage your own followers and friends. Remember, you’re now an ambassador of Texas Tower PR!

Member TestimonialsWe’ll be working with our members to capture their experiences via blogs and video clips that will be distributed via social channels. Prospective clients and candidates will hear just how great our organization is from first-hand accounts.
