Problem In Team Fortress 2 I : 1. Don’t know where my teammates
are. 2. Don’t know where the enemies
are. 3. Don’t know where the objective
points are.
Solution In order to fix all three problems, the one thing that is needed, is a
map. The map will be used as a multipurpose map which will display your
teammates, enemies and your objective points. The player will be shown in the center of the map as a blue blip and
will have an arrow showing the way the player is facing. The player’s teammates will be shown on his map as green blips. The player’s enemies will not always be visible on the player’s map
at all times, only when they are shooting. They will be displayed as red blips on the player’s map if they are firing.
The objectives will be displayed on the map in two colors, green and red. If the player is playing Capture Points, the locations will be shown as red if the enemies control the point. If they are shown green this indicates the player’s team have captured this point. They will look differently depending on the game but will work the same way. For this example we will be looking at a Capture Points game
Below is a screenshot from Capture Points with no modifications.
Player: Below the picture displays the basic map with only the player on the map. The player is shown as a blue blip with the arrow above it indicating the way the player is currently facing. When the player moves the
blips arrow will move correspondingly to the players direction as shown below in figure 1 & 2.
Figure 1 Below (The player is beginning to turn left)
Figure 2 below(The player continues to turn left, as indicated
on the map.)
Enemies: The player will be allowed to see enemies on his screen who are currently shooting. The enemies will always be displayed as red blips no matter which team you are playing for. This is done to stop any confusion from the constant team switching. If the player always knows the enemy as one color they never have to double think which color blip is friend
or foe. The image below shows enemies on the players map who are currently firing.
Teammates: Teammates are shown on the map as green blips. Unlike the enemy blips, the players
teammates will always be visible whether they are shooting or not. The player’s teammates will always be green no matter which team you are on, just like the enemies
being red and for the same reasoning. The picture below shows the player and his teammates on the screen.
Objectives: The objectives will always be displayed on the screen in the color corresponding to which team
currently possesses the objective. In this example the game being played is Capture Points. In this game the player needs to capture 5 points in total to win the game, the letters are the points which the player needs to capture. The letters that are shown in green are the current points which the player’s team has successfully captured and must protect. The letters which are red are the points which the
enemies have captured and must be captured by the player.
Full Map: The picture below shows the map in its entirety. The map shows the enemies, the teammates, the player, and the objectives, in this case the capture points.
The map is a simple solution to three problems which will help the player enjoy their experience.
