Use a separate form for each show (Beef, Dairy Goats, Pygmy Goats, Rabbits, etc.) 4. Remember to enter Showmanship (required if you are entering a conformation, breeding, or market class). 5. Completely fill out page 1 of the entry form. Print legibly! Have it signed by your 4-H Leader, FFA Advisor, or

Parent/Guardian if you are an Independent exhibitor. 6. Carefully read and sign Page 2 – Exhibitor and Parent/Guardian. 7. Note the additional fee if a credit card is used. Make checks payable to Mother Lode Fair. 8. Entry Forms and fees may be mailed or delivered to the Fairground’s Administration Office. 9. Entries must be physically at the Fairground’s Administration Office by 5 PM on June 12 (no

postmarks). Electronic, email or faxed entries are not acceptable. 10. Entry Forms may be delivered to the Fairgrounds Administration Office between 9 AM and 3 PM, Monday

through Friday. After hour deliveries may be left in the drop box. 11. Incomplete forms and entries will not be accepted. 12. The management is not responsible for errors made on entry forms. 13. LIVESTOCK DEPARTMENT RULES ELIGIBILITY: Open to residents of Tuolumne County and members of 4-H clubs and FFA or Grange chapters located in Tuolumne County. Exceptions: Horse Show is open only to residents of Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mariposa counties where a reciprocal program exists. EXHIBITOR AGE REQUIREMENTS: FFA members may participate as members until the end of the calendar year following the year of graduation from high school. (For example, a graduate this year is eligible until December 31st of next year). 4-H members must be at least 9 years old on December 31, 2016 to exhibit in the Livestock Department. 4-H exhibitors are eligible to compete/exhibit through December 31 of the year in which they turn 19 years of age. 4-H Primary members may not be helpers in 4-H classes. Grange members must be 9 years old on January 1, 2017 to exhibit livestock. They may exhibit until the end of the calendar year in which they reach age 19. Independent exhibitors must be age 9 on January 1, 2017. Exhibitors are eligible to compete/exhibit through December 31 of the year in which they turn 19 years of age. Independent and Grange junior exhibitors up through age 13 as of 12/31/16 will show in the appropriate 4-H Division. Independent and Grange junior exhibitors age 14-18 as of 12/31/2016 will show in the appropriate FFA Division. ENTRY RULES & INFORMATION: 1. State and Local Rules apply to all entries. State Rules are available at the CDFA website. 2. Entries must be made on Livestock or Horse entry forms provided by the fair. 3. Each exhibitor (FFA, 4-H, Grange, and Independent) is required to purchase liability insurance coverage through the fair office.

The fee is $6.00 per exhibitor regardless of species exhibited or the number of entries. If multiple entry forms are submitted, the insurance fee is only paid once. 4-H Primary members do not pay the insurance fee.

4. Separate entry forms must be used for each species of animal. 5. All Livestock exhibitors must enter showmanship with each specie exhibited or exhibitor will be eliminated from market and

breeding classes with that specie. 6. The official show uniform is to be worn by all Junior Livestock Exhibitors while showing at the Mother Lode Fair.

FFA uniform consists of white or dark blue denim trousers or skirt and white button front shirt (long or short sleeve, shirt tucked in), and blue FFA jacket and tie. 4-H uniform consists of white or dark blue denim trousers or skirt and white button front shirt (long or short sleeve, shirt tucked in), green 4-H scarf or tie; 4-H hat is optional. Grange uniform consists of white or dark blue denim trousers or skirt and white button front shirt (long or short sleeve, shirt tucked in), red vest with Grange emblem on back. Independent exhibitor uniform consists of white or dark blue denim trousers or skirt and white button front shirt (long or short sleeve, shirt tucked in). Exhibitor may add a black tie. All exhibitors must wear shoes or boots. No flip flops, sandals or any open toed shoes are to be worn by a livestock exhibitor in the livestock area.

EXHIBITOR INFORMATION The Fair expects the following requirements to be adhered to by each Livestock exhibitor. Failing to do so will disqualify the exhibitor from participating at the Fair as well as the Junior Livestock Auction and/or Small Livestock Auction and the animal will be removed from the Fair. 7. Meetings: 4-H Exhibitors will adhere to any meetings required by their 4-H project or club leaders. FFA Exhibitors will adhere to

any meetings required by their FFA advisors or instructors. Grange members will adhere to any meetings required by their Grange youth advisor. Independent Junior Exhibitors are required to attend a meeting set by Fair (time and location to be announced); exhibitor is required to have their parent or guardian in attendance. All exhibitors are expected to attend the Junior Livestock Exhibitors’ information meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 5 at 1:30 PM which will be immediately followed by the Small Livestock Exhibitors’ meeting. Livestock exhibitors will be held accountable for information presented at the exhibitor meetings.

8. Record Books: All exhibitors are required to have their project record book available from animal check in day to check out. FFA members will provide a current AET project summary. Exhibitors entering the Outstanding Livestock Exhibitor or Caren Eilrich Outstanding Small Livestock Exhibitor classes shall provide a printed copy of project records to the judging panel.

9. Pre-weigh & Weigh-in: Exhibitors of market animals must be present for pre-weigh and weigh-in to be eligible to show and sell. Exceptions must be requested in writing and have prior approval before pre-weigh and/or weigh-ins to the Mother Lode Fair CEO, 220 Southgate Drive, Sonora.

10. Showing: Livestock exhibitors must show their own animal in all market classes. Exceptions will be granted for emergencies and severe health issues only. Exhibitors actively showing more than one entry in a breeding class are allowed to have assistance from other livestock exhibitors.

11. Supervision: All exhibitors must be under the on-grounds supervision of a parent/legal guardian, adult club/project leader, or advisor/instructor as determined by Exhibitor’s affiliation status while caring for or showing animals at the Fair. Independent Junior Exhibitors must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times when the exhibitor is in the livestock area.

12. Barn Duty: All exhibitors must fulfill assigned barn duty. 4-H exhibitors will be assigned barn duty by their project leader. FFA exhibitors will be assigned barn duty by their FFA advisor or instructor. Grange exhibitors will be assigned barn duty by their youth advisor. Independent exhibitors are responsible for their own barn duty and must check in at the livestock office by 8:00 AM daily. Each exhibitor is required to complete assigned barn duty or awards shall be forfeited and the exhibitor may be declared ineligible for the corresponding auction.

13. Fitting and Grooming: While on the fairgrounds, not only during the fair, all Livestock exhibitors will care for their own animals, pens, bedding and exhibits. Adults may supervise only. Adults or non-exhibitors are specifically prohibited from fitting, grooming or showing the project animal(s). Exhibitors may be assisted by adults in the movement of project animals to and from pens, scales, show rings, and auction rings. An exhibitor is allowed assistance with grooming and fitting from other eligible Mother Lode Fair Junior Livestock Exhibitors. If a violation is reported, fair management reserves the right to determine the degree of the offense which may result in disciplinary action by the fair, which could include removal of the offender from the grounds, withholding awards and/or disqualifying the exhibitor. Adult assistance in saddling and bridling horses is permitted

14. Animal Washing: Water conservation efforts are encouraged. One pre-show wash and one post-show wash are allowed. All hoses used must have a nozzle.

15. Exhibitors will not use abusive or questionable techniques in feeding, fitting, and showing their animals, including, but not limited to, the application of rings or decorations. Only traditional tattoos, brands and ear tags for identification are allowed.

16. Breeding projects: Exhibitors with breeding project animals entered in the Fair are allowed to display a sign with the name of their business that produced the entry. No soliciting sales of materials, services or livestock by adults or non-exhibitors. No “For Sale” signs or business cards.

17. Feed & Water: All animals must be fed and watered and pens/cages cleaned each day of the Fair by 8:00 AM. Pigs must be fed by 3:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and pans pulled by 4:00 PM. All animals must have access to fresh water throughout each day while on the fairgrounds.

GENERAL INFORMATION 18. Swine Likits to be in place no later than Tuesday, July 4 at 8 PM. Likits cannot be removed until Monday, July 10 at 6:00 AM. 19. All adults intending to help move animals to and from pens, show rings and wash racks must wear appropriate shoes. No sandals,

flip flops or open toed shoes. 20. Parents/guardians are responsible to assist with the photo session of their exhibitors’ animals. 21. No carry-in alcohol is allowed at the Mother Lode Fair. All tack, bags, and ice chests will be inspected. Anyone found with alcohol

will be escorted from the Fairgrounds and will not be allowed re-admittance. 22. No dogs allowed on the fairgrounds, except certified service dogs specifically trained to help a person with a disability. 23. The Creek is off limits for the duration of the Fair. CHECK-IN & WEIGH-IN 24. Animal Health Exam: It shall be the duty of each exhibitor to see that his or her animal(s) pass the health examination before

being checked-in. Exhibitors of Goats, Sheep, Rabbits and Poultry must stop in upper parking lot for Health Examination. Such examination to be conducted by Livestock team member(s) appointed by the Livestock Superintendent. All poultry will be inspected by a state certified inspector. The exhibitor or their representative must be present during the examination. See Livestock Schedule for health check times. All sheep will be flipped.

25. Tail Docking: As per State Rules for California Fairs, “To qualify for exhibit market lambs must be docked such that the tail (dock) is healed and can be lifted from the exterior. Lambs that have no dock will not be eligible.”

26. Fair authorized weight slips will be processed during weigh-in for market animals. It shall be the duty of each exhibitor to check his or her entries for weight classification prior to judging.

27. One (1) re-weigh will be allowed upon request. Animal will be removed from the scales and scales re-balanced. Animal will immediately be placed on scales and weighed. At no time will the animal leave the scale area.

28. Market beef, sheep, swine, and goats not meeting minimum weight requirements will be re-classified to a feeder class. 29. No breeder I.D. tags will be allowed on Market animals. 30. At weigh-in, Wednesday, July 5, 2017, exhibitors are limited to a total of one (1) market animal entry in beef, sheep and swine

divisions combined. Exhibitors are limited to one market goat entry. 31. Beef Brand Inspection will be done at time of weigh-in. All documentation must be present.

DISPLAYS & PENS 32. The State Fire Marshal prohibits the following:

No electrical cords are permitted on or under the ground in the barns or barn area.

No overhead watering is permitted. 33. Livestock Project Displays: All displays must be identified by Club, Chapter, and exhibitors’ name.

Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goats (any) - one (1) hanging display per group. No pens will be used for display.

Horse - one (1) display on wall of the Livestock display area. Maximum size 4x8 feet. 34. Poultry/Rabbit display cards may be hung on each cage; maximum size 4x8 inches. 35. Pen assignments will be posted by 1:00 PM on Monday, July 3 at the Livestock Office. Displays may be brought in between 2:00-8:00 PM on Monday, July 3 and 8:00 AM – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4. 36. For non-market poultry and rabbits, all bedding must be removed from cages prior to release at 6:00 PM Sunday, July 9. For all

other animals pens must be clean by Monday, July 10 by 12:00 noon. This includes the removal of all posters, mesh panels, indoor/outdoor carpet etc.

JUDGING 37. Judging order is 4-H first, then FFA in odd numbered years and FFA first, then 4-H in even numbered years. Primary member

showmanship classes are held between FFA and 4-H classes. 38. Each entry in the Livestock Divisions shall have been made or produced by the exhibitor. 39. Animals dismissed from showmanship classes will not be disqualified from showing in breeding and/or market classes. 40. Judging Definitions:

American The judging process to rank exhibits against one another and awarding one first place, one second place, etc.

Danish The judging process to compare each exhibit on its own merit against the scorecard or recognized standard and award as many first, second and third, etc. placing as merited.

WRISTWRAPS AND PARKING PERMITS 1. Each Livestock exhibitor will receive (1) one wristwrap at no charge for their use only. Exhibitors must wear the designated

wristwrap at all times during the fair. Livestock Exhibitor’s family members i.e. parents or legal guardians, plus brothers and sisters under the age of eighteen (18) may reserve wristwraps for $20.00 per person. Wristwraps purchased after July 1 are $25.00 per wristwrap.

2. A wristwrap or entry ticket is required for each person in the Livestock Area beginning Wednesday at 1:30 PM. 3. On-grounds preferred parking permits can be reserved for $45.00 each, one per livestock family. 4. Parking in the livestock area lots is by permit only beginning Wednesday at 1:30 PM. 5. To reserve wristwraps and preferred parking permits, fill out the request form located in the back pages of the Livestock

Handbook and return to the Fair office with the Exhibitors’ Livestock entry form and full payment. Wristwraps and parking permits will be labeled with the family name and available for pick up at an outside table in the Livestock area on Monday, July 3 from 2-8 PM. Look for signs in the Livestock area.

6. Stock trailers must be parked off the fairgrounds. 7. All vehicles entering the fair to feed must have a parking permit or vehicle permit. Vehicle permits will be issued to feed for 20

minutes before 8:00 AM each day of the Fair. Vehicles in the livestock area past 8:00 AM will be towed at the owner’s expense. Vehicle passes admit only the vehicle. Anyone entering the fair to feed or water must have a 2017 Mother Lode Fair wristwrap on their wrist or an entry ticket.

DRUG STATEMENT FOR ALL AUCTIONS Seller acknowledges the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act prohibits the introduction or delivery into interstate commerce of any food that is adulterated or misbranded. Adulteration includes poisonous or deleterious substances, and new animal drugs defined as unsafe within the meaning of Section 512 (21 USC Section 260b) of that act and those drugs listed in Section 404 (21 USC Section 342).

Seller is responsible for animals that are rejected at processing center due to the presence of drug residues.

Seller shall report to management any and all drugs or medications administered to an animal that might still be detected at time of showing and the name of the drug, its purpose, time and date of administration. This must be done prior to showing the animal.

Seller is responsible for any fees that arise from the processor caring for animal while waiting the specified time to process the use of drugs. If the processor refuses care of the animal for the time specified for the drug used, the seller must care for the animal and make the appropriate arrangements with the buyer and the processor.

Sellers are responsible for animals that are condemned or rejected at processing centers.

JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION

1. Open to market animals exhibited and judged in a junior livestock class at the Mother Lode Fair. All market beef, sheep and swine

pre-weighed, and entered by junior exhibitors, meeting weight requirements and declared eligible through judging shall be subject for sale in the Junior Livestock Auction. All eligible animals shall be selected for sale order by the sale committee.

2. Only swine grading Market Acceptable will sell through the sale. 3. Only lambs and beef grading Market Ready will sell through the sale. 4. An exhibitor may not sell more than one animal at the Junior Livestock Auction. 5. Sale order will be announced the day of sale. 6. The minimum weights and maximum price paid per pound will be set at the following limits:

Beef - minimum 1,000 lbs., paid to 1,300 lbs.

Sheep - minimum 100 lbs., paid to 150 lbs.

Swine - minimum 210 lbs., maximum 280 lbs. No hogs over 280 lbs. will sell per processing plant. 7. In accordance with State Rules and Regulations of the Division of Fairs and Expositions, the Mother Lode Fair will withhold 5% on

the purchase price of each animal sold in the auction. This is to cover the disappearance or death of an animal or other discrepancy that may occur and to offset auction expenses.

8. Beef Legislation check-off of $1 per head sold at auction will be levied for the Beef Council. 9. Pork Promotion check-off is (.0040) of the gross market value and will be levied for the National Pork Board. 10. Project Record Books must accompany the livestock consigned for sale at the auction and be available for review by the Livestock

Auction Committee at any time during the fair. 11. Exhibitors of market animals must be present for pre-weigh and weigh-in to be eligible to show and sell. Exceptions must be

requested in writing and have prior approval before weigh-ins to the Mother Lode Fair, 220 Southgate Drive, Sonora. 12. Livestock exhibitors must show their own animal in all market classes and at the Junior Livestock Auction. 13. Feeding and care of the livestock sold at auction remains the responsibility of the Exhibitor up until the time the animals are

loaded in trucks for shipment. 14. Paint Branding: All auction animals must be clean, dry, in pens, and sheep blankets removed by 8:00 AM Saturday, July 8. 15. An executive committee consisting of one (1) FFA advisor, one (1) 4-H leader and the Chairman of the Junior Livestock Auction

Committee will be responsible for the enforcement of the rules governing the sale. The Executive Committee will decide who sells at the auction. Selling at the Junior Livestock Auction is not a guarantee, but a privilege. Unacceptable behavior by an exhibitor could jeopardize the exhibitor’s ability to sell.

16. Market animals will be processed by licensed processors. (Section 357-359 of California Agricultural Code). No live pick up will be permitted.

17. The Livestock Superintendent is authorized to stop the sale of wild or sick livestock. 18. Each lot sold through the Junior Livestock Auction will be assessed ($15) to cover the cost of two (2) buyer’s ticket and will be

deducted from the exhibitor’s auction check. 19. Add-ons or bumps will not be recognized at the auction. 20. No gift baskets or presents will be permitted at the Fair. We encourage exhibitors to visit Buyers at their businesses after the fair

and extend a personal thank you for their support. 21. Animals not qualifying for the Junior Livestock Auction will be removed from the fairgrounds prior to the auction. Any animals

not making the sale may be sold through private treaty, however, no advertisements or negotiations may take place during the Mother Lode Fair on the fairgrounds prior to the Saturday sale.

22. Auction animals that are declared unfit at the processing plant may become the full financial responsibility of the seller. 23. In the event an animal dies, the contingency fund will reimburse the buyer market price at the time of sale. 24. Additional rules may be added prior to the sale and will be posted at the Livestock office. 25. Sale checks will be mailed after processing, after the fair has received a thank you letter, stamped and addressed to the buyer of

their animal. 26. All Livestock checks must to be cashed within 90 days of receipt. Should a second check need to be issued, it will be the

Exhibitor’s responsibility to pay the bank’s fee.

SMALL LIVESTOCK AUCTION & BENEFIT AUCTION

Sponsored by the Tuolumne County Small Livestock Exhibitors’ Association

1. Open to residents of Tuolumne County and members of 4-H clubs and FFA or Grange chapters located in Tuolumne County. 2. All small livestock animals to be sold at auction must be entered and judged at the Mother Lode Fair. Disqualified animals

shall not sell. Market animals must be judged Market Ready to be eligible for sale.

3. Each small livestock exhibitor may sell one unit of their choice at the Small Livestock Auction from the following:

1 unit - one poultry entry or breeding pair

1 unit - one poultry meat pen (live, not dressed)

1 unit - one market turkey entry

1 unit - one rabbit entry or breeding pair

1 unit - one rabbit meat pen (live, not dressed)

1 unit - one single meat rabbit (live, not dressed)

1 unit - one goat entry 4. Each exhibitor may donate one or two (2) units from the list above to the Small Livestock Benefit Auction except Market

Goats, which will not be sold in the Small Livestock Benefit Auction. All animals must be listed on the Fair Entry Form. 5. Exhibitor is responsible for having a photograph taken with auction animal(s), per Small Animal Livestock Auction photo

schedule. 6. The Exhibitor must complete the Small Livestock Auction entry form or the Small Livestock Benefit Auction entry form,

depending on which auction is entered (or both). The forms are due to the Small Livestock Association at the time the Auction photograph is taken. The Auction and/or Benefit Auction Entry Form must be submitted to the Mother Lode Fair Livestock Office no later than 5:00 PM Friday, July 7.

7. Proceeds from the sale of an animal in the Small Livestock Auction: In accordance with State Rules and Regulations of the Division of Fairs and Expositions, the Mother Lode Fair will withhold 10% of the purchase price of each animal sold in the Small Livestock Auction. This is to cover the disappearance or death of an animal or other discrepancy that may occur and to offset auction expenses. Each lot sold through the Small Livestock Auction will be assessed $15 to cover the cost of a buyer ticket. The total will be deducted from the auction check which is returned to the Exhibitor.

8. Proceeds from animals sold in the Small Livestock Association Benefit Auction are retained by the Small Livestock Association. Funds are used for scholarships, barn supplies and equipment, and activities to support youth raising and showing small livestock.

9. All small livestock will be sold by unit, with the following exceptions: market rabbits, poultry meat pens, and market turkeys will be sold per animal. Market goats will be sold per unit not by the pound.

10. Non-market pairs to be sold as one unit, commanding single price. 11. All goats and rabbits entered to sell must be identified by permanent ear markings. All poultry and turkeys entered for

sale must be identified by leg bands. 12. Feeder meat goats will not sell at auction. 13. Sale order will be announced the day of sale. 14. Add-ons or bumps will not be recognized at the auction. 15. No gift baskets or presents will be permitted at the Fair. We encourage exhibitors to visit Buyers at their businesses after the fair

and extend a personal thank you for their support. 16. All animals presented for sale must be healthy and groomed as for show. Animals not in show shape will not be sold.

Decisions of the Livestock Superintendent and the President of the Small Livestock Exhibitors’ Association will be final. 17. Responsibility for small livestock sold at auction remains with the exhibitor until the animal is released from the grounds.

For market rabbits, market chickens, and market turkeys, the Small Livestock Exhibitors’ Association is responsible for transportation and processing and the Exhibitor is responsible for delivery to the buyer. Market goats sent for processing by the buyer will be transported with the Junior Livestock Auction lambs to the same processor.

22. Participation in the processing of market rabbits, market chickens, and market turkeys is required and a condition of the sale. Checks will be available after the processing is completed. Processing will be scheduled within five days of the date of auction.

23. Sale checks will be mailed after processing and after fair has received the thank you from the exhibitor. All Livestock checks must to be cashed within 90 days of receipt. Should a second check need to be issued, it will be the Exhibitor’s responsibility to pay the bank’s fee.

LOCAL RULES

1. Applicable State Rules apply in all departments. State Rules are available online and in the Fair Administration Office.

2. LOCAL CLASSES (Livestock): Open to residents of Tuolumne County and members of 4-H clubs and FFA or Grange chapters located in Tuolumne County. Exceptions: Horse Show is open only to residents of Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mariposa counties where a reciprocal program exists.

3. LOCAL CLASSES (other than Livestock) Entries are open only to residents and/or producers of those counties as follows: Alpine, Calaveras, Mariposa, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne, unless otherwise stated.

4. No entry fee will be refunded except as provided in the State Rules. Entry fees appear preceding each Division of the Exhibitors’ Handbook. No refunds of entry fees will be made for amounts of less than $5.00.

5. Any check returned by the bank for any reason will be levied a $25 return check charge. Any Exhibitor that hasn’t made good on a returned check will have their entries disqualified from judging.

6. All entries must remain in place until the close of Fair. Non-livestock Exhibits will be released from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 4-6 PM on Monday, July 10. No exceptions will be made for the above rule except by written permission from the Fair CEO, Veterinarian or as otherwise stated herein.

7. If an entry is removed prior to the official release time all awards and premiums will be withheld. 8. Exhibitors must be amateurs unless division or class specifies otherwise. 9. The fair reserves the right to reject any entry if it is objectionable, or if it requires excessive space. 10. No entry will be accepted where an Exhibitor prescribes the condition under which he/she will exhibit. 11. Judging results will not be given over the telephone. 12. Entry forms may be accepted after the official closing date on an ease of processing and space available basis.

Late entries will only be accepted when accompanied by a $5 processing fee for any non-livestock entry and $10 processing fee for any livestock entry.

13. The Management will not be responsible for accidents, loss or theft that may occur to any exhibit at the Fair. Every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of all exhibits. It is under this condition only that entries will be accepted. Any insurance desired on any entry will be the sole responsibility of the Exhibitor.

14. Checks for awards will be made payable to the Exhibitor as indicated on the entry form and will be mailed to the Exhibitor after exhibit is released.

15. All judging is final. The Judging Sheets are the ONLY official record of judging. Cash awards will be paid as recorded on the signed Judging Sheet.

16. Should a premium be found to have been obtained by misrepresentation or a violation of any of the rules, State or Local, the premium award shall be withheld.

17. All material used in decorating booths, exhibits and displays must comply with the State Fire codes. VEHICLES

1. No vehicles will be allowed on the Fairgrounds without a parking permit or vehicle permit. 2. Vehicles on the grounds parked in unauthorized areas will be towed away at the owner's expense. 3. A vehicle permit admits only the vehicle. Each occupant must have either a pass, paid admission, or wristwrap to

be allowed admittance.

MOTHER LODE FAIR PROTEST POLICY & PROCEDURES 1. Protests will be considered only if there has been a violation of State or local rules. Decisions of judges,

veterinarians, weigh masters and timers cannot be protested and are final 2. All protests must be presented to the management of the fair in writing within 24 hours of the alleged violation, or 24 hours after results are available to the public. A $50 deposit must accompany protests (cash,

money order, or certified check made payable to the Mother Lode Fair) or $100 if the protest relates to violations of State Rules concerning Animal Health. Deposit will be returned if the protest is determined valid. If protest is upheld, the violator may be held liable for any portion of the direct cost incurred by the Fair to resolve the protest.

3. The Fair will make every effort to resolve protests as quickly as possible. 4. Exhibits involved in a filed protest will be eligible to compete until protest is resolved. Classes that involve the

protested exhibit will not become official until protest is resolved. 5. The President of the Board of Directors will appoint a committee of two Board Members, and the Fair

Manager/CEO or his/her designee to hear and resolve the protest. This committee will be appointed at least 30 days before the opening of the Fair. If any of the members are unavailable, the committee Chairperson may ask another Board Member to serve.

6. Violations of State Rules may be appealed to the Division of Fairs & Expositions.

SHOWMANSHIP Rules & Information: All livestock exhibitors must enter showmanship with each specie exhibited or exhibitor will be eliminated from market and breeding classes with that specie. Entries must be made by the fair entry deadline on Livestock entry forms. Except for 4-H primary showmanship, only animals owned, fitted and shown by the exhibitor at the fair may enter showmanship.

DEFINITIONS

FFA NOVICE - Open to FFA exhibitors showing this specie for the first year. Previous FFA Novice winners are not eligible. First and second place winners advance to FFA Advanced Showmanship.

Example: An FFA member who has never shown swine in any organization but has shown Poultry for 3 years in 4-H enters FFA Novice Swine showmanship.

FFA ADVANCED - Open to FFA exhibitors showing this specie for the second year and up. First and Second place winners advance to FFA Large or Small Animal Round Robin Showmanship, depending upon specie shown except first and second place in Horse showmanship who may advance to the County Fair Best of Show Horse Show at the California State Fair.

Example: an FFA member who has never shown swine in any organization but has shown Poultry for 3 years in 4-H enters FFA Advanced Poultry showmanship.

4-H PRIMARY - Age 5-8 years old. Participation ribbons only. Exhibitor must be enrolled as a Primary Member in the 4-H project to enter. Classes open to Primary Members are Nigerian Dwarf Goat, Pygmy Goat, Poultry, and Rabbit. Primary Members do not bring their own animals to Fair. GENERAL INFORMATION: 1. This Horse Show is governed by commonly recognized equestrian rules AND the Gymkhana is governed by CGA

(California Gymkhana Association) Rules. 2. The judge’s decision is final and cannot be protested. Protests shall be based on violations of the Mother Lode Fair Horse

Show Rules. 3. Entries open to only residents of Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mariposa counties where a reciprocal program exists. 4. Open to eligible 4-H, FFA, Grange and any youth meeting age requirements. 5. First place winners of all classes except walk-trot classes shall qualify to enter the 2017 California State Fair Best of Show

Horse Show. See www.bigfun.org for details. 6. Entry fees are not refundable. No post entries. 7. With the Horse Entry Form the exhibitor must provide the Fair with proof of liability insurance coverage or purchase

insurance through the fair office ($35) for horse and gymkhana classes. 8. Exhibitors entered as members of 4-H, FFA and Grange must be in good standing with their organization and be enrolled

in projects under the supervision of that organization. 9. 4-H, FFA and Grange Horse Project exhibitors must own the horse they enter or have leased the horse, for a minimum of

120 days prior to June 25, 2017. A leased horse cannot be shown for conformation. 4-H, FFA and Grange exhibitors must file a copy of the horse lease with the 4-H office, FFA advisor or Grange youth advisor at least 120 days prior to the horse show date. For owned horses, proof of ownership must be available at check in. Independent exhibitors must provide proof of ownership (120 days prior to the horse show) for showmanship and conformation classes.

10. Entry in Showmanship is required if exhibitor wishes to enter a conformation class. 11. Classes with insufficient number of entries may be combined or cancelled. 12. Junior 4-H members are age 9 up to age 13 as of December 31, 2016, riding classes only, not showmanship. 13. 14. Yearling is an animal born during 2016. 15. Pony is less than 14.2 hands (58 inches) in height. 16. A limited area will be provided for warm-up. 17. The Fair will make showmanship patterns available to the exhibitors prior to the class. 18. Any changes in rules shall be posted at the Entry Table at the beginning of the show. 19. 4-H, FFA, Grange and Independent Uniform Requirements:

The official show uniform must be worn during showmanship classes. It consists of white or dark blue denim trousers and a white long sleeved shirt. Additional garments shall be worn to designate 4-H, FFA and Grange affiliation in accordance with rules provided by those organizations.

Western or English riding apparel or the appropriate uniform for 4-H, FFA, Grange and Independent Junior Exhibitors must be worn for this show.

All Exhibitors must wear riding boots. No hiking boots or tennis shoes allowed.

HORSE SHOW RULES: 1. An equestrian helmet with fastened chin strap, meeting ASTM/SEI approval will be required for all riding events. NO EXCEPTIONS 2. All Exhibitors must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or adult club or chapter leader. 3. Each entrant will provide all necessary equipment and horse or pony to compete in this competition. Appropriate tack must be used. 4. Horses should not be left unattended for any reason. 5. Any changes in the Horse Show scheduling will be announced at the Horse Show area on the day of the show. Such announcements shall be deemed sufficient notice to exhibitors. 6. If any Exhibitor leaves the arena for any reason, that exhibitor cannot return to the class. 7. Exhibitors must declare any medications given their horses when they check in. 8. Substitutions are permitted only in cases of illness or injury of animal with a Veterinarian’s Certificate. The substitute must be the member’s project animal. 9. The judge may disqualify any animal that is not sufficiently gentle to be shown with safety. All animals in the Horse Show must be serviceably sound. 10. Exhibitors entering trail classes will be limited to three (3) refusals per obstacle. After the third refusal the exhibitor will be excused from the class with a no score. 11. On day of show walk-trot classes are based on the performance limitations (no cantering or loping) of horse/pony by rider. Exhibitors in walk-trot classes cannot enter any loping classes. 12. No dogs allowed on Horse Show Grounds.

SHOWMANSHIP:

Rules & Information: All horse show exhibitors must enter showmanship to be eligible to enter a horse or pony in a conformation class. Entries must be made by the fair entry deadline on Livestock entry forms. Only a horse or pony owned or leased and fitted by the exhibitor may enter showmanship. See page 12 of this Handbook for Showmanship definitions, Divisions and Classes. No entry fee required for Showmanship.

POULTRY

Rules and Information:

American System of Judging. Rules, definitions and judging procedure as prescribed in the latest edition of the Official Show Rules and Standards of Perfection of the American Poultry Association, Inc. shall apply to this show, except where they are in conflict with State Rules.

All poultry will be inspected prior to coop-in. Upon arrival, as required by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, any bird showing evidence of parasite infestation, disease or illness will not be allowed to enter the Fairgrounds. All birds must be clean and represent the highest quality and standards of that breed.

For all classes of Poultry, all birds upon arrival at the Fair must be identified by leg bands conforming to the entry form. Market Poultry will be wing banded at check-in.

The exhibitor must state Breed and Variety of each entry on Entry Form

Birds will be shown and judged in the proper division and class for breed, variety, age and sex only. If no class is offered, no awards may be given. Disqualified birds and those absent at the time of judging do not count when computing the number of exhibitors in the class. A judge or superintendent may excuse a bird from competition and/or have it removed from the grounds if it appears to be fatigued, infected, or out of condition, but the bird shall be counted as an entry.

HERITAGE TURKEYS Rules & Information: Heritage Turkeys are defined by the historic, range-based production system in which they are raised. Turkeys must meet all of the following criteria to qualify as a Heritage turkey:

Naturally mating: The Heritage Turkey must be reproduced and genetically maintained through natural mating, with expected fertility rates of 70-80%. Heritage Turkeys must be the result of naturally mating pairs of both grandparent and parent stock.

Long productive outdoor lifespan: The Heritage Turkey must have a long productive lifespan. Breeding hens are commonly productive for 5-7 years and breeding toms for 3-5 years. The Heritage Turkey must have a genetic ability to withstand the environmental rigors of outdoor production systems.

Slow growth rate: The Heritage Turkey must have a slow to moderate rate of growth, reaching a marketable weight in about 28 weeks which gives the birds time to develop a strong skeletal structure and healthy organs prior to building muscle mass. This growth rate is identical to the commercial varieties of the first half of the 20th century.

Open to Heritage turkey varieties recognized in the American Poultry Association (APA) Standard of Perfection: Black, Bronze, Narragansett, White Holland, Slate, Bourbon Red, Beltsville Small White, and Royal Palm.

RABBITS Rules & Information:

American System of judging. Rules, definitions and judging procedures as prescribed in the latest edition of the Guide Book and Standard of the American Rabbit Breeders’ Association, Inc. shall apply to all District and County Fair Rabbit Shows, provided they do not conflict with Department of Food and Agriculture State Rules.

All animals must be identified by permanent ear markings conforming to the entry form on arrival at the show. Any duplication of ear markings by one exhibitor in the same Division must be eliminated and the change recorded on judging sheet before judging.

Must state Breed and Variety on Entry Form.

Animals will be shown and judged in the proper Division and Class for breed, variety, age and sex. If no Division is offered, no awards may be made. Rabbits that are disqualified because of permanent defects, deformities or blemishes, and those absent at the time of judging do not count when computing the number of exhibits in the class. Any rabbit entered in a class which is the wrong sex, breed or variety is to be eliminated from the class and the number in the class corrected accordingly. Substitutions must be made in writing at Fair Check-in, Wednesday, July 5, 6-10:00 AM, only. Substitutions are limited to entries in classes of the same sex, breed, variety and age.

Exhibitor is responsible for seeing that their animals get to the judging table. Another exhibitor may assist in getting rabbits to the table. Adult are prohibited from placing rabbits on the show table.

Rabbit entries are limited to twelve (12) rabbits per Exhibitor. Each Market Rabbit meat pen counts as a single entry.

All rabbits must be owned and cared for by the Exhibitor a minimum of thirty (30) consecutive days prior to the opening day of the Fair.

Rules & Information: American System of Judging.

The purpose of the Lead Class is to promote the use of wool and acquaint the public with modern sheep production.

This is an open junior competition. Members of 4-H, FFA, and Grange and Independent Juniors shall be judged together in the same class.

Sheep must be a wether or ewe lamb or yearling ewe. No rams allowed in this class. Arrangements for sheep are the responsibility of the exhibitor.

Sheep must be entered and checked in for Mother Lode Fair sheep show, but does not need to be owned by sheep lead exhibitor. Animal must be dressed to match exhibitor. Sheep must be shown at halter. All grooming preparation for show must be done by contestant.

Entrants must furnish own costume. Outfit must be made of either 100% wool or a minimum of 70% wool and no more than 30% synthetic fiber. Garments in this class are not eligible in clothing classes. Outfits must not have been used at prior Mother Lode Fair by the exhibitor or another exhibitor.

Commentary: Entrants must provide a copy of their commentary, typed double spaced on one side of an 8 ½" x 11" sheet of paper and written in “third person,” not to exceed 200 words. This commentary is due no later than 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 6 to the Livestock Office. It may also be attached to the entry form at time of entry. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Entries must be made on the official Mother Lode Fair Livestock entry form by entry deadline.

The selection of the winner is based on show ring placing of individual animals, placing in showmanship and educational display. The following point system must be followed. Conformation point placing: Grand Champion: 40, Reserve Champion: 30, 1st place:20, 2nd place:15, 3rd place:10. Showmanship: participation:6. Educational display promoting the Angus breed: 25. If steers and breeding animals are both exhibited, points may be combined to select a winner. For breeding animals, the animal must be registered with papers. This is open to exhibitors with one or more breeding and/or market animals. Winning the award in previous years shall not exclude an exhibitor from winning again. For market steers this award should go to the highest placing predominately black steer, the sire must be Angus. The purpose of this award is the promotion of the Angus breed; therefore Angus breeding animals should take precedence over market animals GOATS:

Awarded to the Tuolumne County outstanding exhibitor of small livestock. Open to exhibitors of Goats, Poultry, and Rabbits at the Mother Lode Fair in their second year of showing and above. Not open to 4-H Primary members and Primary showmanship does not count toward years of eligibility. Applications for this award must be turned in to the Small Livestock barn by Thursday, July 6, 2017 by 5:00 PM. Application to be completed by Exhibitor. Interviews for this award will be conducted on Saturday, July 8 beginning at 8:30 AM. See the Interview Schedule posted in the Rabbit/Poultry barn on Friday. OUTSTANDING LIVESTOCK EXHIBITOR AWARD This award is given to the top Tuolumne County 4-H and FFA exhibitors, second year and above, for maintaining and improving the quality of the Mother Lode Fair Livestock Area. Perpetual trophies and buckles are awarded, sponsored by the Wittman Family. Judging is under the supervision of the Livestock Superintendent.
