• Register for the AP exams in the spring. You may earn college credit if you score a 3 or better on the exam(s).

• Take the CAASPP/EAP, SAT and ACT in your junior year. Doing so gives you the opportunity to strengthen your skills during your senior year by enrolling in appropriate courses. Many CSU campuses require you to take the SAT/ACT by October of your senior year.

GRADE

• Complete all final “a-g” course requirements, including college prep English and high-level math such as Trigonometry or Analytic Geometry/Calculus.

• Take a senior-year math course to strengthen your skills to be better prepared for college coursework.

Early Sept:Register for the October SAT or ACT, if you haven’t already taken the exam.

Oct 1 - Nov 30:Apply to the CSU early—the deadline is November 30! Begin to apply for scholarships.

Oct 1 - Mar 2:Apply for financial aid starting October 1. The priority deadline is March 2.

Late Spring:If you are taking AP classes, register for the AP exams. You may earn college credit if you score a 3 or better on the exams.

9th - 12th Grade

COURSES

The California State University requires the following college preparatory pattern of classes for admission as a first-time freshman. A grade of C or better is required for any course used to meet a subject requirement.

a. History and Social Science 1 year of U.S. History or 1 semester of U.S. History and 1 semester of civics or American government AND 1 year of social science

b. English 4 years of college preparatory English composition and literature

c. Math 3 years (4 years recommended), including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or advanced math

d. Laboratory Science2 years (including 1 biological and 1 physical science)

e. Language Other than English 2 years of the same language

f. Visual and Performing Arts 1 year, (dance, drama or theatre, music or visual art)

g. College Preparatory Electives 1 year of any college preparatory course chosen from the a-g course list
