The Lord is with us now
Today, it is very clear, we must talk about the end of the world and about the meaning of these readings that have been given
to us for this Sunday. First, we should say, the end of the world, most likely, will not happen in my life. For two thousand years,
some people have been waiting for the end of the world. In every age and time, there are people who expect the end of the
world to happen very soon, this year, next or very soon. So far it has not happened.
Did the first Christians believe in a physical end of the world? Surely they did, and many of them thought it would probably
end soon.
Is there a more spiritual teaching about the end of the world? Yes, and we must pay attention. The deepest teaching about the
end of the world is not about its physical end, but about how you and I should live now.
The Prophet Malachi in the first reading reminds us that at some point we must all come before the Lord and answer for our
lives. We Christians believe that we have only one life and, in the end, we will have to give an account of this life and how we
have used it.
Most of us have not used our lives so well. Many times we want to use our lives well, but we get distracted. Sometimes we are
caught in the desires of the flesh. Other times we are caught in the desires of power. Sometimes we are only worried about
what others think of us. The reasons for distracting oneself from the inner goal of a strong spiritual life in God are numerous.
Today, the readings want to remind us that we must trust in the Lord. If we trust God, then the sun of justice will rise with its
healing rays. That is, we come to recognize that we cannot lead strong spiritual lives only by our own willpower. Rather, we
must ask God to change us and help us.
The Scriptures tell us that now is the day of salvation. Now is the time when the Lord is with us, bringing compassion and love.
Let's celebrate this Sunday as if it were our last Sunday.
Jesús está con nosotros ahora mismo
Las lecturas este domingo tienen un mensaje muy preciso y es acerca del fin de los tiempos. Primero, deberíamos decir que el
fin del mundo muy probablemente, no sucederá en mi vida. Durante dos mil años, algunas personas han estado esperando el
fin del mundo. En cada época y tiempo, hay personas que esperan que el fin del mundo suceda muy pronto, este año, el próximo
o uno de estos días. Hasta ahora no ha sucedido.
¿Creían los primeros cristianos en un fin físico del mundo? Seguramente lo hicieron, y muchos de ellos pensaron que
probablemente terminaría pronto.
¿Hay una enseñanza más espiritual sobre el fin del mundo? Sí, y debemos prestar atención. La enseñanza más profunda sobre
el fin del mundo no se trata de su fin físico, sino de cómo tú y yo deberíamos vivir ahora.
El Profeta Malaquías en la primera lectura nos recuerda que en algún momento todos debemos estar ante la presencia de Dios
y responder por nuestras vidas. Los cristianos creemos que tenemos una sola vida y, al final, tendremos que dar cuenta de esta
vida y de cómo la hemos vivido.
La mayoría de nosotros no hemos vivido nuestras vidas tan bien. Muchas veces queremos usar bien nuestras vidas, pero nos
distraemos. A veces estamos atrapados en los deseos de la carne. Otras veces estamos atrapados en los deseos de poder. A
veces solo nos preocupa lo que otros piensan de nosotros. Las razones para distraerse de la meta interna de una vida espiritual
fuerte en Dios son numerosas.
Hoy, las lecturas quieren recordarnos que debemos confiar en el Señor. Si confiamos en Dios, entonces el sol de la justicia se
levantará con sus rayos sanadores. Es decir, llegamos a reconocer que no podemos llevar vidas espirituales fuertes solo con
nuestra propia fuerza de voluntad. Más bien, debemos pedirle a Dios que nos cambie y nos ayude.
Las Escrituras nos dicen que ahora es el día de la salvación. Ahora es el momento cuando el Señor Jesús está con nosotros,
trayendo compasión y amor. Celebremos este domingo como si fuera nuestro último domingo lleno de amor y perdón de
Dios.
