the more common pathologies • Demonstrate familiarity with basic of MRI sectional imaging components of the normal ankle • Identify basic MR findings associated with acute vs. chronic ankle injury • Recognize basic MRI findings associated with sinus tarsi syndromes Limb Salvage: Vascular By the completion of this session, the registrant will: • With respect to the high-risk limb and limb salvage, defend the importance of working together
as part of a team of physicians for the ultimate benefit of the patient • Outline the basic steps in the assessment of patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) • Advance current principles for the preservation of the limb in peripheral arterial disease • From the vascular surgeon’s perspective, offer a basic algorithmic approach to healing severe,
chronic wounds • Recognize the importance of timing in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and
concomitant infection • Appreciate the need for a) revascularization and potential ramifications of substandard
revascularization, and b) importance of pedal arch reconstruction and two-vessel infra-geniculate revascularization

Roles and responsibilities are shifting and consumer expectations are become increas-ingly demanding. The one thing podiatrists want to avoid is a lawsuit — a professional liability lawsuit. This presentation will focus on the presenters view related to The Reasons Podiatrists Are Sued. This will include a case study claim related to wrong site surgery. Yes, one of those “Never Events” that is still occurring. The presentation will also walk through specific and practical steps to assist you in mitigating risks within your practice. Objectives: • Discuss top 6 reasons Podiatrists get sued • Review common customer services that can impact the patients perception of their care • Discuss strategies to mitigate the risk • Describe common breakdowns in processes can lead to never events
Saturday, November 23, 2019 Risk Management/Reducing Medical Errors: Infectious Disease By the completion of this session, the registrant will be able to: • Elucidate current principles of interpretation in the use MRI in the evaluation of diabetic foot
infection, with improving the accuracy and minimizing errors in the diagnosis of osteomyelitis • In light of the most recent medical literature, defend the use of radionuclide imaging in
diagnosing osteomyelitis as a tool that can reduce the probability of equivocation and error in the high risk diabetic foot
• Given a clinical scenario, including patient history, offer effective strategies for the empiric treatment of infections thereby avoiding potential risky delays in antibiotic management
• Identify scenarios that justify medical management of osteomyelitis, along with antibiotic choices, and avoid errors that depart from practice standards of care
• Describe the basic objective and subjective tools and advanced techniques in the accurate diagnosis of osteomyelitis
• Based upon the current medical literature and practice standards, present an organized approach to evaluation and management principles of diabetic foot infection
• Enumerate principles of the surgical management of osteomyelitis Florida License Requirements Florida Regulations – HIV Update (1 hour) HIV/AIDS: The physician will be thoroughly familiar with: a) the epidemiology of AIDS and related infections including TB; b) modes of transmission, c) infection control procedures (including uni-versal precautions), d) clinical management, e) prevention, f) current therapies, and associated MSK radiographic features. Typical State and/or Federal regulations regarding AIDS testing and the confidentiality of test results will also be reviewed. Evaluation and Management of Patients on Controlled Substances (2 hours) Topically, this section complies with the typical CME requirements for state regulations regarding prescription of controlled substance. In Florida, this is House Bill 21. As an overview, the prescribing practitioner will become thoroughly familiar with the responsibilities and requirements of the Electronic Florida Online Reporting of Controlled Substances Evaluation Program (EFORCSE).
