Our Vision A safe learning environment where students are empowered: with the skills to question; the desire to improve; the will to persevere and develop resilience; to inspire each other to be the best they can be.

ENGAGE EXPERIENCE EMPOWER

The Lions Club of Armadale Kelmscott organised a public speaking competition for schools in the Armadale Kelmscott area. The aim of junior public speaking is to give students in Primary Schools the chance to develop their ability to speak in public. There were two zones consisting of 4 schools each. Mishel Isaot and Emily Back represented Grovelands Primary School. The competition was really tough and both the girls made us proud and did an excellent job in presenting their speeches. This time we didn't win, but the girls felt really happy and confident about their efforts. Mrs Shorey.

Room 3, Year 5/6 Assembly Item This term we have been learning about our rich Indigenous culture and decided to do our assembly based on a Dreamtime Story called 'The Echidna and the Shade tree.' We enacted the story, which we followed up with the Torres Strait Islander lullaby 'Inanay'. Students enjoyed performing and getting the props ready for the assembly. We hope everyone enjoyed it.

Authority to Suspend 2019 The Principal of Grovelands PS is the only person on staff with the authority to suspend a student from school. In the event that I am not on site and am unable to authorise a suspension, I hereby delegate that authority to the Deputy Principal, Student Services. If that person is also offsite the authority resides with the Deputy Principal, Curriculum and Performance Development. If that person is offsite, the authority resides with those people in acting Deputy Principal Roles on a given day. Mark Bradshaw, Principal

Welcome, everyone, to the Term 2 Week 8 edition of the Grovelander. The term certainly seems to have moved along very quickly. I am really looking forward to this Friday’s Big Breakfast & Wellness Day. I would like to see as many families and friends of Grovelands there as I can. We also have Eagles Cup Sports here from 1.30 pm on Friday against Kingsley Primary school, so please consider coming along to support these teams, as they represent the school. Grovelands Primary School is adopting a new evidence based writing strategy across the whole school. From here on and into the future please get used to hearing the words “Talk for Writing”. Talk for Writing (T4W) is: “a unique process that uses spoken activities to develop writing skills. Quality writing is created by first expanding and developing students’ oral language skills and then teaching the necessary steps for exceptional sentence, paragraph and text construction. T4W has the potential to dramatically improve students’ writing. The approach also offers students with learning and language difficulties an opportunity to develop stronger writing skills. Feedback from students indicates that they find T4W ‘fun, engaging and motivating”.

Staff are currently completing the training we began on our recent School Development Day in after school blocks. Experimentation has already begun in several classrooms. I am excited about the impact this strategy will have on our students’ writing skills in the coming years. Finally, don’t forget to put the date – Wednesday September 25 (Term 3, Week 10, Wednesday) on your calendar. This will be our annual Open Night and 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Regards,

Mark Bradshaw, Principal
