Additional Discussion• Mentoring

23

Recap – our mission

• Develop an updated CV format that allows faculty greater flexibility to represent the full range of their academic accomplishments

• Provide feedback and guidance on functionality for uploading/editing the CV

• Determine and maintain a standard CV format to provide efficiency for faculty reviewers

• Represent your constituencies during the revision process

• Advocate for the CV Module we develop

24

Recap – our accomplishments

• Reviewed all sections of the CV• Voiced comments and agreed to changes:

– Header text– New sections– Hide/consolidate some sections on the review CV– Improve functionality

25

Recap – still to do

• Review list of changes• Discuss additional CV functionality ideas• Decide on a best approach to soliciting

faculty input• Review faculty input• Finalize design

26

Recap – where we are

27

Changes directly related to comments:• Reduce the number of clicks to edit a line• Embedded instructions and examples, also visible

from Edit mode • Include an example CV• Ability to add sections• Ability to sort and re-order within a section• We will make moving grants simpler• We will add a field for poster title, but not include it

in the Review CV

2014 FAS Survey

28

Comments without easy answers• I'd appreciate it if, when something was changed

by an administrator in my Advance information such as funding percent and source, that I would receive an email notification to go look at it.

• Times out.  Doesn't have an automatic save /recovery system which Is problematic.  Not easy to get  standard fonts and text size.

• No place to click ""finished"" or ""done"" for example, so you are never 100% sure the changes/updates have been saved.

2014 FAS Survey

29

Comments without easy answers• Make it possible to print a decent looking CV from

the ADVANCE system. It should be possible to export the CV to Word and reformat and edit it in Word.

• The online CV tool is pretty good, although could do a little better about allowing us to insert links into our CV. That is very important moving forward.

• CV does not allow much/any flexibility in including the multi-faceted work of faculty and too many important pieces of historical information must be included as ""other.""

2014 FAS Survey

30

• List of changes that will impact the user– Grants

• Make the Description field part of the CV • Display a warning when a field is blank• Include a Percent Effort field• Add a field to describe the role (1-2 lines)

– Honors and Awards• Optional field to indicate importance (2-3 lines)

– Service to Professional Publications• Add a Role (select ad hoc reviewer or editorial board)• “Services Rendered” indicate the number of papers

reviewed in the past year and in the past five years

List of changes

31

• List of changes that will impact the user– “Effort allocation” section: candidate indicates %

time for each applicable area (Clinical, Research, etc.)

– Clinical Activities section• Indicate activities and years

– Hospital Service sub-section (include Quality Improvement information)

– Contributions to Diversity (A summary field)

List of changes

32

Other Topics• Other topics that need to be discussed:

– How do we transition?– List of Accomplishments– Rich Text fields– Sharing your data– “Granularity” of fields

33

• What will the new world look like in relation to the old world?

• How will the 15/16 packets appear AFTER January 1?

• Will there be TWO options for users (old My CV, new My CV)?

How do we transition?

34

• Add the Annual List of Accomplishments to the CV Roll Out– Selling point for the new CV– This kind of report could be useful for all faculty

for their annual meeting with their chair

List of Accomplishments

35

Rich Text Fields• Rich Text fields

– BENEFIT - Rich Text enables bold, underline, italics, formatting tricks like bullets, indents, hanging indents, etc.

– ISSUE - “Pasting” into a Rich Text field can introduce unwanted code

– OPTIONS• Leave as is• “Strip” rich text when pasting, forcing the user to add

formatting using the rich text tools

36

Sharing CV Data• Sharing CV data

– Default is NOT to share data– User can enable sharing– Do we want system-defined access to some

data?

37

Granularity• “Granularity” of fields

– Original design considered sorting and reporting– Do we need more granularity?
