Wellness Center hosts

Freedom Friday The Wellness Center staff provided an educational workshop called

‘Freedom Friday’ to Wesley College students on a variety of topics de-

signed to increase health awareness and promote self-care. College students

experience a variety of stressors, including school demand, problems

with friends and family, and over-scheduling. The goal of the workshop

was to teach students how to detect their limits before they experience

‘burnout’, how to manage stress and anxiety day to day with easy coping

strategies, and when to seek help when stress and anxiety become too

overwhelming. The Wellness Center staff invited

many local vendors from the community to come

out and donate their time and skills for the day to

offer the students tools to cope with stress and anxie-

ty. The services offered were Yoga, Reiki therapy,

hand massage and paraffin therapy, and body

massages.

The Wolverines celebrated their 2019 Homecoming Week from October 21, 2019 – October 26, 2019. The Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, Creative Attributions, and the Stu-dent Athletics Advisory Council planned several events throughout the entire week to celebrate this occasion.

Alcohol & Other Drug The Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Education office has been fully engaged in student activities since the

beginning of the Fall 2019 semester. They started the semester off with participation in the New Student

Orientation, as well as the Pre-check in for Fall Athletes. Between the

two groups, the AOD office presented to approximately 228 students

and assessed each group. This was the first year that the AOD office

was able to present to an exclusive Athletic audience and administer a

valuable assessment tool. The AOD office used the 360 Proof™ pro-

gram, which was created by the NCAA Division III and the NASPA

Small Colleges and Universities Division, and is designed to assist the

coaches and athletic administrators with making sure our athletes have

the most productive tools in their prevention arsenals to combat under-

age drinking and drug misuse. NASPA also created the Certified Peer

Leadership course, called Bacchus, that has been successfully rolled out

the campus for the last 4 years now and over 140 students have been

certified. To the right is an infographic of

some of the data collected.

The AOD office also hosted their staple

programs, such as WooZe Wednesday,

21st Birthdays and the most recent staple

program, Bottles & Brushes, Halloween Edition. The thought process is to

allow the students to appeal to their peers when it comes to activities on cam-

pus. Bottles & Brushes partnered up with one of our very own Wolverines,

Itunu Ogundipe. He is a very talented artist who provided instructional

painting for our event. There were approximately 36 students to attend this

event and they seemed to have a great time! It was announced that the AOD office would love to showcase

student talent and if anyone else would like to host our paint night. There were a few takers on that, so let

the brushes flow!
