The Angmering School Weekly News
This is our weekly newsletter for parents, students and friends of the school. We want to give you news about what is happening in school, exciting things, future events and things we would like to see happen.
Issue Date: Week 31 13 May 2016
HOW ABOUT TRYING VEGETARIANISM?
Becky Brooke, the ambassador for Animal Aid came in to give students a talk on why we all could be vegetarians and how swapping to a meat free diet can improve our environment, our health/lifestyle and animal welfare. This is part of the current Food Technology GCSE course. All students enjoyed the talk and could taste test meat alternatives!
Angmering in Bloom Visit Thank you to the Angmering in Bloom ladies, who kindly gave their time to help our year 12 'Moving On' group plant edible plants in a small plot and wild flowers in the boat at the front of the bungalow in school. We are looking forward to seeing them grow and will look beautiful when they flower.
CAN YOU DONATE TO SUPPORT THIS STUDENT?
Well done to year 11 student, Louise Brown who is donating over 8-9 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, the day after prom. Louise said “I am doing this because it's a brilliant charity, and you can help someone by just giving the length of your hair to boost a little boy or girl’s self esteem. Also I always wanted to raise money for cancer in some way after my grandad passed away, but I didn't really know how to go about it. When I saw this charity and how I can help I immediately knew I wanted to raise the money in honour of my grandad.” If you would like to support Louise the link to her just giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/Louise-Witten?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=Louise-Witten&utm_campaign=pfp-share-mobile
A reminder to students to sign in and out at their year team area and not at main reception. Thank you.
Track Success for Para Racer
Nathan Freeman was at the top of his game in all events at the weekend securing PB in both the 100m and 400m and has comfortably qualified for the Junior National Championships in all three of his events! A great achievement but a personal triumph was to build confidence racing in lane one - the toughest on the track especially against the legend that is David Weir, which he achieved with excellence. Well done to Nathan Freeman 8RT.
Nearly New Uniform Shop
Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the shop on Saturday. We raised £22. A reminder to all parents and carers to donate any uniform which students have grown out of. Please hand it into reception. Year 11 parents please have a sort out and donate any uniform not needed for younger siblings. If your child’s blazer is too small or too big why not come along and swap your blazer for another on the rack? Please wash it before you come to save us some work. Remember we are all volunteers who run the shop. The uniform is not only sold to raise funds to support students but is also donated to students who need it. A huge thank you to Mrs Smith on reception for sorting through the racks in the shop and making sizes easier to find. If any parents or carers would like to volunteer some of their time to help in the shop please ring Mrs Moppett on 01903 778362. Finally a mention for our tie loaning service via reception. This is not a long term solution for a lost tie, but on a daily basis students can borrow a tie from Mrs Moppett provided you leave something with her to ensure you return the tie at the end of the school day, eg a train ticket, door key, mobile phone.

Daniel Pender (7TW) took part in a karate sparring and kata competition yesterday and won a gold medal and a gold trophy. He's a brown belt and won a gold medal for his age group and belt level in the sparring competition. He then came first in the weapons kata, using his nunchucks, and won a gold trophy. His younger brother, who is in year 4 and also a brown belt, came third in the same weapons kata.
HAVE YOU HANDED YOURS IN YET?
Tuesday 3rd May is the last day to collect the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers. Please do hand in to us any you have by the end of May so we can send our order off to them. They do take a while to count! Thank you to all the staff and parents who have already supported us by handing these in.
Hugo Lloris – Meet and Greet
Patch Clout, 8JP, attends ProDirect’s Soccer Academy and is the goal keeper in their Under 13 Elite Squad. In October last year, he was selected to represent Sussex in a football tournament being held in Portugal. During the Easter holidays, he and 24 other players flew out to Lisbon to attend this prestigious event. Three days of intensive training, in somewhat less than sunny conditions, preceded the two day tournament. Overall the team placed 3
rd; their greatest
achievement was beating Benfica Club. Last Wednesday, Patrick was invited by ProDirect to again represent his team at an official “meet and greet” session with Tottenham Hotspurs and France International Goal Keeper, Hugo Lloris. He travelled to London to the ProDirect store near Soho for this VIP event; only 35 other people were invited to attend this intimate gathering. After a Q&A session all guests were able to chat with Hugo, ask questions and pose for photos with the Spurs captain. Patch was also fortunate enough to get his ProDirect shirt autographed. Hugo proved to be an inspiring and motivational speaker, proud of his team and country and a true ambassador for the sport. Hugo also advised Patch that in
addition to maintaining his skill and
passion for football, homework
should always be completed on
time. His own parents insisted on
this whilst he was growing up too.
National Golf Finals
Angmering School and Ham Manor’s Taylor
Macintyre put in a superb performance in the
British Schools and Colleges Golf Finals at
Trevose Golf Club, Cornwall on the 5th and 6th of
May. Taylor reached the finals by finishing 6th in
the Regional Order of Merit with a good
performance in all 5 tournaments in the South
East. The competition is for players up to 21, so
Taylor at just 14 is the youngest Angmering player
to qualify and one of the youngest in the finals. He
was supported by his friend Zack who had agreed
to caddy for him at the tournament. Despite his
inexperience at this level Taylor played with real
maturity scoring 77 on the first day and 76 on the
second day giving him a finishing position of 57th
in a field of 115. Thank you to Mr Yates and Mr
Smith who took the boys to ensure they got to
experience this level of competition. Thank you to
the Graham Holton Bursary, via Ham Manor who
helped fund the trip.
Golf After Angmering Former Angmering School Golf
Academy player and Ham Manor
member Elodie-Jane Yates has
reached the National Finals at NJCAA
level in the USA. Elodie-Jane played in
three finals in the UK with a best finish
of 9th place before gaining a
scholarship at Murray State College in
Oklahoma. Elodie-Jane plays her finals
at the LPGA International course in
Daytona Beach Florida on the 16th -
19th May.

Can you solve this week’s problem ?
A notice on Morcambe Promenade reads: "It would take 20 million years to fill Morecambe Bay from a bath tap." Assuming that the flow from a bath tap is 6 litres per minute, what does this imply is the approximate capacity of Morecambe Bay, in litres?

Divisible by Its Digit Sum
2011 has digit sum 2+0+1+1=4. But 2011 is odd, so is not divisible by 4.
2012 has digit sum 2+0+1+2=5. But 2012 does not end in 0 or 5, so is not divisible
by 5.
2013 has digit sum 2+0+1+3=6. But 2013 is odd, so is not divisible by 6.
2014 has digit sum 2+0+1+4=7. But 2014÷7=28757, so 2014 is not divisible by 7.
2015 has digit sum 2+0+1+5=8. But 2015 is odd, so is not divisible by 8.
2016 has digit sum 2+0+1+6=9. Since the digits sum to a multiple of 9, 2016 is
divisible by 9.
Thus 2016 is the next year which is divisible by the sum of its digits.
Divisible by its Digit Sum
The year 2010 is one in which the sum of the digits is a factor of the year itself. What is the next year that has the same property?

Tranche noun
1. A portion of something, especially money. "They released the first tranche of the loan"
Etymology
In French, tranche means "slice." Cutting deeper into the word's etymology, we find the Old French word trancer, meaning "to cut”. Tranche emerged in the English language in the late 19th century to describe financial appropriations. Today, it is often used specifically of an issue of bonds that is differentiated from other issues by such factors as maturity or rate of return. Another use of the French word tranche is in the French phrase une tranche de vie, meaning "a cross section of life." That phrase was coined by the dramatist Jean Jullien (1854-1919), who advocated naturalism in the theatre.
Foreign translations: French: tranche
German: tranche
Spanish: tramo
Norwegian: transje
