2 MACQUARIE SUSTAINABILITY
• Context
• Current approach
• Outcomes to date
• Known areas needing work
• Conclusion
Including time for group discussion & feedback
What are we talking about here?!
Current Approach
4 MACQUARIE SUSTAINABILITY
• Adding topics to lectures in an opportunistic manner
• A planned approach to include the topic as part of lessons
• Some programs already focus on sustainability
• A requirement specified by professional bodies in order to complete a degree
• An additional or dedicated program or course is developed and offered
• A capstone or other unit designated as compulsory for learning
• Adoption of different pedagogies, creating a different way of working,
learning and enabling the learner to understand themselves and the world
• Sustainability is included without being recognised as ‘sustainability’
• A combination of one or more of the above approaches
Background
Current Approach
5 MACQUARIE SUSTAINABILITY
• Lack of skills and knowledge
• Not relevant
• No time
• Not a priority for the university
• Lack of confidence

A summary of outcomes
17 MACQUARIE SUSTAINABILITY
Interdisciplinary and integration
• Inherent diversity of an interdisciplinary program is a strength for
addressing interdisciplinary concepts
• Sustainability works as an interdisciplinary concept and ‘golden thread’
in an interdisciplinary course
Known areas for work
18 MACQUARIE SUSTAINABILITY
We need you to advise:
