LEVI’S CURVE ID..celebrates the true curves of a woman with three dist inct f i ts that

address a diverse range of body shapes. Our f its areSLIGHT, DEMI and BOLD.

BACK IN THE 1920’S LEVI’S INVENTED DENIM JEANS...and almost a century later they reinvented them.Based on the premise that it’s shape not size that

is important, Levi’s studied more than 60,000 body scans of women of all shapes before arriving at the three Levi’s Curve

ID curve types - Slight, Demi and Bold. These three curve types are designed to fit more than 80% of women, and

much more effectively than the typical waist size measurements that are designed

with a ‘standard’ shaped body in mind. With a perfect fit the first time you try them on,

Levi’s Curve ID are essentially custom made for your body shape, flattering and accentuating in all the right places for the

best possible fit. If all this sounds too good to be true, Levi’s invited 150 top fashion bloggers to see for themselves, receiving

unanimous praise for their revolutionary new jeans.

THE AREA MAGAZINE 9

Fortunately going back to basics isn’t just a lesson in penny-pinching.

Heritage brands like Levi’s are in the midst of a massive revival. And there’s no better way to reintroduce yourself to this familiar friend than through the style that started it all: plain, simple, no-fuss Levi’s 501 jeans.

But, as you may not have expected, options exist within the original fit to help exercise your individuality. The core line consists of four classics ranging in tone from jet-black to stonewashed. Finishes in white, grey, indigo, and varying shades of blue provide spice each season.

Somewhere along the line, it became socially acceptable and even necessary to spend £200 on

a pair of mens jeans. And save for a few prematurely shredded Sevens and tricked-out True Religions that, at this point, deserve to be burned, we have little to show for shelling out all that cash. Bottom line: Just like you, we’re sick of going broke for our beloved jeans. So, where’s the cheap stuff? Well, truth be told, the price-point snobbery we developed over the years made us completely overlook old-school standby brands. It took a near economic apocalypse to make us open our eyes, but we’re now ready to get reacquainted with the first (and arguably the best) name in denim: Levi Strauss. Where to start? The Levi’s 501 jeans.

“THE ORIGINAL & ICONIC JEAN. A TIMELESS BUTTON-FLY CLASSIC WHICH IS AVAILABLE IN A LARGE VARIETY OF FINISHES”

LEVI’S 501 JEANS

L E V I ’ S S T O R EB U C H A N A N G A L L E R I E S

And to satisfy the sceptics, there are even a couple of pricier selections. Colour aside, Levi’s 501 jeans have remained virtually unchanged since their inception over 120 years ago. And that’s a pretty great thing, since Mr. Strauss’ empire grew from droves of men getting down and dirty in the California Gold Rush. Point being, these jeans were built to last for the long haul probably a hell of a lot more so than the daintier denim we’ve been splurging on for years. And even if they aren’t, the more practical price tag should certainly afford you a few extra backup pairs.

VIVIENNE WESTWOODVOGUE FASHION’S NIGHT OUT

The Vivienne Westwood 2012/aw collection has arrived in store showcasing the ever surprising

gold label Collection and as a plus, the merino wool collection.

The Vivienne Westwood Merino Wool Collection featuring 12 luxe pieces includes both men and womens

knitwear that showcase the delicate nature of Merino Wool in collaboration with the Woolmark company. You might already have seen the collection in the press but it was totally worth it to go to the store and just feel the fabric – heavenly soft! Each piece is made of delicate fine Australian wool. This natural fibre creates almost a second skin which stretches with the body, breathable and versatile. They are created in the signature Vivienne Westwood cut, featuring autumnal shades suitable for all age groups.

The Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Couture Collection designed by Vivienne Westwood herself is truly sensational. As an avant guard fashion designer, her adven-turous approach is to design that unique Vivienne individuality and eccentricity. The garment’s are almost like carrying a particular message. I do have my eye on a white shirt with its fluid fabric, asymmetri-cal structure and chilled out attitude which is very different from the usual white shirt impression. All these pieces and more are available from the Princes Square branch of Vivienne Westwood in Glasgow.

Back in 2009, Cassie dominated headlines by making quite the fashion statement: She shaved part of her long locks off for a

punk-inspired hairstyle that still managed to remain feminine and sophisticated. Cassie explains: “I think the shaved-head trend is amazing. I definitely wasn’t the first I shaved my hair almost three years ago, and I also shaved off the other side [having one side initially]. I shaved the other side for Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Roll Up’ video to turn it into a Mohawk, but it’s definitely a fun trendsetting hairstyle. Really glad that I made it mainstream is maybe the right word. I like to see how other young girls remix it and add colour and all of that”. Check out Cassie’s look along side Nicki Minaj as she features on her

single ‘The Boys’.

The Puma Suede was ignited in the late 60’s and still invigorates today. Worn

by athletic greats such as basketball’s Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier and the track’s Tommie Smith at the 1968 Olympics, it rose to new levels of fame in the early days of b-boys and funk beats. As this underground mu-sic scene rose to the street surface, the Puma Suede started making moves among break dance crews such as the New York City Breakers and the Rock Steady Crew, who rocked them at early Hip-Hop jams in New York and Hip-Hop clubs.

This revolution, like others, disrupted the norm. It followed the logic of the decade and so did PUMA. Puma felt the culture shift beneath their feet from strict conven-tion into self-expression. They responded by translating sports gear into street wear.

The Puma Suede tells the story of sport-in-spired style. This time-honoured member of the PUMA Archive continues to evolve with the times while maintaining its smooth silhouette, swagger and grit. The Puma Suede proves that no matter the decade, the city, the continent -style can be revolutionary.

SWATCHPUSH THE BUTTON

“...the Chrono Plastic is not only fashionable, but functional, designed to take you from

street side to track side all with the push of a button...”

Being a child of the 80’s, I find myself naturally drawn to all things

fluorescent. Synonymous with (the better parts) of the era, Swatch (an-other 80’s baby) is famous for its plastic fantastic, trendy watches. So, when pre-sented with the opportunity to review the “Chrono Plastic”, the latest Swatch watch released, I naturally jumped at the chance.

My clothing palette tends to be more conservative, so I rely heavily on fun accessories to create a unique look, and when I caught a glimpse of the new bright bold colours I knew instantly the Chrono Plastic would soon be adorning my wrist. With 10 different colour schemes available, it won’t be hard to find one of

the new Swatches to match your style, so, whether you prefer bold and bright or classic with a hint of fun you’ll certain-ly find a Chrono Plastic to match your mood (or outfit).Since launching its inaugural watch in 1983, Swatch has established itself in the market as a trend setter, so it should come as no surprise that the latest Swatch release is colourful, fun and oozes charm. Crafted with a combina-tion of plastic and silicone the Chrono Plastic is not only fashionable, but func-tional, designed to take you from street side to track side all with the push of a button.

NIKE+ RUNNING CLUB

Runners in Glasgow have a fantastic new way to train with a free weekly

running club from Buchanan Street’s flag-ship Nike store. Nike’s free running club’s have already proved a success around the world in locations such as Chicago, Paris and London and it is hoped that runners in Scotland’s biggest city will make the most of this opportunity to ‘get fit for free’ in the same way!

Nike+ Run Clubs are an inspiring way for the ever expanding Nike Running commu-nity to stay motivated, offering runners of all levels the chance to hit the streets with the store’s expert running team. Departing from the Glasgow store every Thursday at 6.30pm, the weekly session’s will be led by trained Nike Pacesetters and will offer dif-fering distances so that runners always get a bespoke experience that suits their training goals.

Nike Glasgow’s run specialist, Darren, is one of the experts leading the

Thursday session’s. A Sports Science grad-uate from Glasgow University and quali-fied personal trainer, he is there to make sure you train effectively and achieve whatever goal you have set yourself. He explains: “Every Thursday we will take runners out on a 5km or 7.5km route around the city with a view to adding in a 10km route in the future”. Just Do It!

Kurt Geiger exit to a graphic urban landscape with an optimistic look into the future where all is...

This seasons punk trends fuse classic traditions and a masculine accent for a new gritty glamour. More than ever each

Black and white, rose and gold, ox-blood, scarlet, fuchsia and electric blue, stilettos, Mary-Janes, wedges,

super platforms, sneakers and motorcycle boots. Silhouettes without compromise change from high-rise to flat, exploring details that often identify classic British design including the chelsea, brogue and military boot. Also introducing unexpected British combinations- the chelsea and high-top wellingtons. And the slipper on a stiletto “Slipetto”!

With punk in mind, classic styles are customised and trimmed to various extremes with studding, buckles, straps and jewels. Flaunting with masculinity, chunky loafers, brothel creepers and brogues sit pretty with regal elegant styles, brocades, lace and laser-cut detailing. Restraining the season with classic minimalism is the knee-high boot, the cut-out court and the chunkier mini heeled Mary-Janes, which are newly proposed and perfectly untouched.

The Candy collection continues a purse-friendly play with accessories including pouches, cardholders, wallets, trinkets, more structured technology accessories, bags and new padded nylon weekenders. Clean minimalist shapes and soft embossed snakes in red, nude, teal and black get wild with harsher textural surfaces, animal print and bold box chains.

Kurt Geiger’s third handbag col-lection continues to stamp a de-sign authority with further ex-

ploration of statement chains, exposed zips and edgier stud detail. Carrying your life in your bag is left to the con-tinuation of the classic totes, as Au-tumn’s new proposals are more compact.

Considered functionality is instead solved with clever multi-compartments and additional straps that can be added or removed to suit the mood. The ‘Hum-bug’ collection adds a new squarer white Nappa leather clutch and other struc-tured shapes are proposed with new styles ‘Sherbet Jazz’, ‘Liquorice’, ‘Rhubarb Rock’, ‘Lollidrop’ and ‘Gobstopper’. A base of linear architectural inspirations are giv-en depth through striking contrast col-ours, white leopard print calf hair leather and softly textured snake-cut leathers.

The Sassoon Creative Team, produce seasonal collections for Sassoon

Salon in order to inspire, excite and inform you of the latest hair trends. This may involve following a particular look or simply taking an element of the idea to give you a fresh new seasonal style. Our new A/W 12 collection aptly entitled Hair! combines the inspiration of the optimistic sixties with the lustre of modern luxury to create a collection of ethereal, gravity-defying hair shapes with multi-tonal colour effects.

The hair is cut with an ‘invisible layering’ technique that creates multiple lengths of disconnec-tion to develop movement and an ‘undone’ sensuousness. “The overall movement is free-flow-ing and rhythmic, a super soft feminine look with maximum shine” explains Natalie Hinton, Creative Director of the Glas-gow Salon. Sassoon also em-phasise the importance of col-our in accentuating the healthy movement of hair. For example “blonde is an aspirational colour but it has to be believable” says Robin Colwell Colour Director of the Glasgow Salon.

Solange Knowles has returned to the pop scene. She might be better known as the younger sister of Be-

yonce Knowles but with ‘Losing You’, Solange could finally prove that she’s a talented artist in her own right, with no need to live in her sister’s shadow. It’s been four years since Solange released her sec-ond album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, which may have been well-re-ceived but failed to get her a foothold on her career ladder in the music industry.

‘Losing You’ is produced by Blood Or-ange’s Devonté Hynes and it’s a neat laid-back modern R&B song, with just enough

swagger to get her personality across, but just enough retro groove to set it apart from most mainstream R&B tracks. It’s simultaneously downbeat and uplift-ing and the video really captures her spirit as she cycles around Cape Town, South Africa. The video was direct-ed by Melina Matsoukas; she’s worked with Solange before, on 2008’s ‘I De-cided.’ The track, which features the lyrics “I’m not the one that you should be making your enemy / tell me the truth, boy, am I losing you for good,” is released by Terrible Records. The B-side will be ‘Sleep in the Park,’ which will feature Kevin Barnes, of the band Of Montreal. Both tracks are taken from her as-yet-untitled album. After this latest release there’s no way Solange will be losing us!

2013. The album will be available on CD/DVD and digital download, as well as a Limited Edition Box-Set. The follow-up to the Scottish trio’s 2009 platinum selling LP ‘Only Revolutions’, will comprise 20 tracks including the songs ‘Stingin’ Belle’, ‘Victory Over The Sun’ and ‘Modern Magic Formula’, which they have already debuted live.“I think we’re going back to a time when albums were what it was about, something to get your teeth into,” said bassist James Johnston.“To release anything other than a short concise album is against the flow,” said drummer Ben Johnston. “Most people are going down the single route now.”

Ben said rock bands like Green Dayand themselves, who were choosing to release multiple albums, were “trying to rebel against the state of music at the moment”.He added: “I guess it’s a good thing, musicians fighting for music and the idea of albums - which is what we believe in”.

“Knowing the market is vital and offering tenants and landlords an affordable choice is key”

Central Letting Services based in Glasgow’s south side is one of them and according to Seema Bhatti oper-ations manager it comes to no sur-prise. In the last few years they have had record new instructions and let properties since operations began in 2005. So is she, perhaps a little self – satisfied, sitting in a plush office, en-joying life? Well, no, she isn’t.

“CLS has become a favoured choice, well ahead of the others be-cause knowing the market is vital and offering tenants and landlords an affordable choice is always key. We have a 95% occupancy rate and tenants that are willing to stay with us longer. Our website has over 10,000 hits per month and we have more than 100 registered tenants per month, so we are confident that our service and approach is right.”

CENTRAL LETTING SERVICES

“CLS HAS BECOME A

FAVOURED CHOICE WELL

AHEAD OF THE OTHERS “.

If you are a landlord or tenant finding the right letting agent

can’t be easy especially in Glasgow. Letting agent boards and offices are in abundance some say you may be spoilt for choice; however there are some letting agents that stand out from the crowd.

THE AREA MAGAZINE 41

“But it’s dangerous to relax, it’s a tough market so were putting more resource in keeping CLS as the first choice for both tenants and landlords by keeping the costs low for landlords and building stronger relationships with our tenants overall giving both parties a value service”

As the CLS client list grows to new heights other agents nearby must be slightly

confused other than a huge web presence and eye catching to-let boards there is not much showing in terms of office front other than a small caption near a heavy bold Century 21 sign? The hidden approach comes to mind.

Adjusting her seat slightly she explains: “We primarily started out as a letting service since this is our area of expertise but decided on an all round service so decided on an estate agency franchise such as Century21 since it’s the biggest in the world and shared the similar style of ethos as our own business but unfortunately selling homes became difficult and our own business was growing fast so we decided to stick to what we know best, we are still contracted to Century21 until March 2013 after that you will see a large new bold CLS sign”

It really is that simple. Hard work, but simple Glasgow’s hidden gem but maybe not for much longer.
