Debating ReportLocated in a small room, in the heart of Northbridge Public School, our one hour preparation time had begun. Four students; Sonia Freiburg, Bezi Saunders, Olivia Forman and Eden King set out to create the ultimate speeches that would captivate and convince the adjudicator that maths and science shouldn’t be taught more than music and art. Our time was up and as we filed through the winding corridors of the hosting school; we prepared ourselves. We pitched our speeches, made rebuttal and soon the adjudicator had made up her mind. Our team, Team Blue, came out victorious (by a hair). Northbridge’s debating team was incredible and proud to be a tough opponent. We

Recycling ReportYou may have noticed the new blue recycling bins in our school’s playground. These bins are for metal (such as foil) and hard plastic. Some students have been acting as the ‘Green Team’, and keeping an eye out for children doing the right thing with their rubbish. Thanks to all the students who have been recycling! Keep it up!

Mrs Cant is collecting bottle caps so she can recycle them and make an artwork for our school. If you have any plastic bottle caps from home, please bring them in. There is a box where you can deposit them, outside the hall underneath the House Point boxes.

The Neutral Bay White team (Mesake Taulawakeiaialio, Charlotte Beaumont, Katina Casimaty and Charltte McClymont) were also successful in their debate against Northbridge, and came back to school victorious. The topic was the every student should learn an Asian language. It was a thoroughly enjoyable debate and everyone felt it was a great experience.

Stars of the WeekPSSA Soccer ReportThe A team had a great match. We had more possession of the ball and had more chances but unfortunately we lost 2-1. Mosman scored a goal early in the match. We had many chances but unfortunately we couldn’t produce any goals. In the late first half Mosman shot and scored a second goal. Late in the second half Seisa scored a brilliant goal which kept us alive. Unfortunately we ended up losing but the Neutral Bay team did a great job.

by Oliver Macdonagh

On Friday afternoon the B PSSA soccer team played against Middle Harbour and had a cracking game winning 7-0. We played really well. We did great passes, tackling and scoring.

Cooper scored a brilliant goal from well outside of the box. This was also Justin’s first match in PSSA soccer and he had a great game. Well done Justin! Cooper got man of the match and always plays brilliantly. Petar scored a good goal as well.

Overall I think the B PSSA soccer team did really well and it was a ground breaking performance.

Well done the B’s!!!

By Harry Wilcock

We played a great game against Mosman Public School. They played well but with our man of the match Justin and all our other great players they could not hold us back. We managed to win 11-0. It was a great game. The weather was windy so there was a lot wind on the ball. We were happy with our win.

Mrs A Stewart & Mrs R Vaccarella - KSV Class Teachers

Stage News

It has been a very busy week in Kindergarten. We are really enjoying continuing to explore our unit on ‘The Sea’! Look at all the amazing art that is being produced in KSV-our snorkelling students, feather tailed fish and dancing dolphins. We are going to make our own giant class whale this week too! In maths we are very focused learning about ‘addition’. In maths groups we have been combining groups or adding on the smartboard, computers and the iPads.

Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)

Year 2 students have been busy learning how to develop procedures in order to achieve goals. This has involved understanding the purpose of procedures, how to draft procedures and then how to diligently follow the procedure. We read the picture book, ‘Facing the Tiger’ as inspiration before writing a procedure that would help us to create our own tiger masks from paper plates. All students wrote their own procedure listing the materials they needed, the steps to completion and finally the end goal – a paper tiger mask! Take a look, if you dare.

Mrs R Roberts 4R Class Teacher

4R has been revising the properties of 3D objects. We examined and discussed the number of edges, faces and vertices of each object. Then we had a go at making a range of objects from nets. These included hexagonal pyramids, octagonal prisms, cones, cylinders and cubes. Some of us even made a dodecahedron! This is a polyhedron with 12 faces, 30 edges and 20 vertices. It was fun to combine with maths with a bit of origami!

Stage 3 News (Years 5 & 6)This semester, students from 5B & 5K have taken part in a number of ‘STEM’ lessons. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

A lesson or unit in a STEM class is typically based around finding a solution to a real-world problem and emphasizes project-based learning.

Students are divided up into small teams and are given a limited number of resources to complete the task.

Task 1: Build the Tallest Tower:

For this task, students were only given two sheets of A4 paper. Stick-tape, glue, staples etc. were not allowed to be used in their construction.

Task 2: Paper Cup – Engineering Challenge:

In this challenge, students had to create a frame made up of only plastic straws. A cup was then connected to the frame and weights were gradually added to test its strength.

Task 3: Marble Roller-Coaster

Our latest challenge involved using plastic plates and marbles to create the most imaginative roller-coaster ride.

As you can imagine, students from both classes have greatly enjoyed participating in each activity and look forward with great anticipation to our next STEM challenge!

Group coaching on court will provide the children with a basic introduction to tennis- designed to build self confidence and gross motor skills in a fun environment.

After mastering the Red Ball, children move on to the Orange Ball where the ball bounces a little higher (50 per cent compression). This will help build on gross motor skills and self confidence.Group coaching if focused on technique and developing stroke.
