Have a great week,David ShusterPrincipal

AppDuring Term 1 some notifications being sent by the school were not highlighted on the home screen of some phones. If this was the case for you, it is suggested you delete the app and download it again.

Dear Parents and Carers,

A Mother’s Day stall will be open on Friday 12 May. This is an opportunity for all our children to independently purchase a gift for the special person in their life with whom they celebrate Mother’s Day.

The SRCs (student representatives) will collect money and assist all children as they come with their class to make their choice. This is a fundraising event for our school. Therefore, the gift is a token of the occasion and not directly reflective of the value of your donation.

If you would like your child to be part of this event, please send $5 with them to school on Friday 12 May. It is suggested that Kindy and Year 1 children bring their money in an envelope with their name and class on it.

The P&C take this opportunity to wish all Mums, Grandmas and their families a very special day!

Kind regards, The P&C

Kindergarten News Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)

Miss L. Josephson 2L Class Teacher

This week Kindergarten has continued to look at important places in our school for our Geography Unit. We looked at our playground and made a map to represent Kindyland. KL then worked in groups to build models of the playground using Lego. They had to imagine looking at our playground from a bird’s eye view. Here are our models.

Mrs K. Lockhart KL Class Teacher

On Wednesday the 26th of April, Year 2 remembered the Anzacs and attended the school Anzac Day Ceremony; Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. In class, 2L discussed the importance of the veteran’s march, laying of wreaths, hymns, the sounding of the Last Post, one minute’s silence, and the national anthems of New Zealand and Australia. Here are some of our Anzac Day crafts.

Last term, Year 5 looked at ‘Factors that Shape Places’ in geography. As part of our unit we looked at natural geographic features of the Earth. The students worked in small groups posing questions and using their iPads to research their topic. We then used that information to create a poster. Each group shared their poster with the class so that we have ‘Walls that Teach’.

Year 3 used their sport session to train for the cross country carnival by stretching and running laps around the school. The students loved the carnival and supported one another by cheering on the sidelines down at Forsyth Park. The teachers were very impressed with the participation and determination of all students.

Year 3 have been busy practising their writing skills for narrative and persuasive writing. Teachers have read lots of fantastic stories. Year 3 are beginning to use descriptive language more frequently.

P & C NewsElection Day BBQ Thank you! Thank you to all those who helped out with their time and beautiful baked items at the By-Election BBQ on 8th April. Voter turnout was lower than expected, but we still managed to raise around $3,800 for the school, so well done everyone! A big thank you also to Rakesh KC from Bakers Delight in Theo's Arcade Neutral Bay for providing all the loaves of bread for free.

P&C Meeting – Wednesday 3rd May, 7:30pm (all welcome)Please come along to this week’s P&C Meeting, where we expect to approve this year’s budget for funds raised. The following is the proposed allocation of funds to be raised by the P&C for items required by the school:

• Science / Music Programs $110,000

• Learning Support $30,000

• Futures focused furniture for the new senior library $20,000

• Air conditioning units $40,000

At this meeting, there will also be a presentation of a new Facebook closed group account being developed by the school, why it is being developed, and the work done on it so far.

Mother’s Day Stall – Friday 12th MayA Mother’s Day stall will once again be open on Friday 12 May for children to purchase a gift for Mother’s Day. This year we will have some new choices for the children. We’ve managed to get these items at wholesale prices, so whilst we are only charging $5 per item, these gifts retail at $5 and above. All funds raised will go to the school. Please see the attached flyer for further information.

Mother’s Day ‘Mum and Son’ Dance – Wednesday 17th MayA common fact is that Mothers and their daughters often get a chance to bond over a shopping experience, a manicure, a trip to the ballet or just doing girlie things together. But mothers of boys say they often miss out on that bonding time with their sons as the time together involves driving and watching them at their sporting activities. So we've thought this year to add something else to the mother's day calendar. On the evening of Wednesday the 17th May we are having a Mother's Day dance/lesson. Then for Father's Day there will be a "Dad and Daughter" dance in a different format but something which will be just as special. Please see the attached flyers for further details and instruction on how to register.

Note, there will be no Mother's Day breakfast given mothers are so often at school as it is and mornings are one big rush. The Father's Day breakfast will still go ahead as planned.

This year we are holding a Mother’s Day dance lesson for mums and sons. Carers and grandmothers are also more than welcome to attend as

well as daughters and fathers.

The idea is the boys will learn some of the basic ballroom dances such as the waltz together with some other popular dance styles which will be

facilitated by a professional dance instructor from the Crows Nest Dance Centre.

These skills that the boys will learn will come in handy when they are adults. There will also be a “Dad and Daughter Dance” for Father’s Day

with a slightly different twist.
