1. Menace to Sobriety- Sarah Rourke came here to win, and so far her squad has had quite the impressive season as they remain undefeated. Menace is definitely the team to beat on the field and they aren’t afraid to let you know it. At least they back up all that smack talk.

2. Untouchables- Scott R. has definitely put together a well balanced team that has had a great first season. They were pretty good on day 1 and have only gotten better. Will the Untouchables be able to pull through and knock out Menace? Only time will tell…. Smells like Giants vs. Patriots ’08 to me ladies and gents.

3. Bing Bongs and Chick-A-Dees- A bountiful mix of skill and aggression on Stella’s squad will lead to quite the competition for anyone unfortunate enough to face the Bing Bongs.

4. Tiger Blood- I think James needs get his “Laser” back for the tournament if these guys are going to come together and claw their way up the tournament ladder.

5. FSR- This team was created solely for the destruction of one veteran Dodgeballer in this group, and so far they have not lived up to their hype. Plagued by injuries, and player losses. These guys have a lot of ground to cover to earn their title and team name.

6. Sloppy Seconds- I’m a little confused as to how this team didn’t seed higher. Sloppy has pretty good players all around. Maybe Jon Reyes needs to get their eyes on the prize.

7. Honey Badger Don’t Care- I know this team has more skill than they are willing to admit. Ms. Sarah Harsche is no rookie to this sport and I don’t know what she’s planning, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Honey Badgers pulled some upsets come Tournament time.

8. Rings Around Uranus- Yet another potential underdog team that could manage some upsets. This team has it all ladies and gents, skill, strength, and even their very own class clown.

9. STRANGER DANGER- Truth be told, we’ve been sand baggin. I saw the potential in this team when I put it together and now we are ready to unleash our fury amongst the dodgeball community. We are determined to prove to Backyard Sports that even the “god” team can bleed.

10. Troop 417- Erin Freeman certainly had a lot to say before the season started….. You guys are too nice… you need to GET ANGRY!!!!!! Pretend we just smashed your girl scout cookies and come to the tournament with a vengeance!!

11. Hit It & Bounce – YET ANOTHER TEAM, that has serious potential. They may not have won this season, but they gave FSR a run for their money, proving that they have the ability to beat higher seeded teams. What does Rebecka Wipf have up her sleeve? Time will tell….

1st Round predictions Stranger Danger vs. Rings Around Uranus

(T) The rematch that Rings have been waiting for. Both teams are eager to make their names as the underdogs of this tournament.

(C) With an arm like Barcus, on your team, Stranger Danger is going to have a hard time dodging his balls.

(J) Daniel Gard’s arm and Tom’s distracting socks will get them past the first round. Tom’s Prediction: Stranger Danger(Totally biased) Charm’s Prediction: Rings Around Uranus James’ Prediction: Stranger Danger

Troop 417 vs. Honey Badger Don’t Care (T) Erin Freeman’s girl scouts are going to be in for a very rough road if they hope to pull out

the win here. The Honey Badgers aren’t slouches, and it’s very unlikely they will go down in the first round.

(C) I’m pulling for the underdog here. Troop 417 has some really solid players. Troop has Shaun who can dodge balls like no other, he just has to stand sideways…you can’t touch this kid.

(J) I’m going off the record for this one, and Troop 417 only had 1 win . Tom’s Prediction: Honey Badger Don’t Care Charm’s Prediction: Troop 417 James’ Prediction: Honey Badger Don’t Care

Sloppy Seconds vs. Hit It & Bounce (T) Both teams are all smiles and sass, but I think Rebecka Wipf has something up her sleeve

that will take Jon Reyes off guard. (C) I’m only pulling for Jon’s team so that my team has another chance to woop dat azz! (J) I’m going off records again on this one. Sloppy Seconds should have this one in the bag. Tom’s Prediction: Hit it and Bounce Charm’s Prediction: Sloppy Seconds James’ Prediction: Sloppy Seconds

FSR vs. Tiger Blood (T) James Salgado’s kittens want to make a name for themselves in this league pretty bad, while the hooligans on FSR don’t really care, but losing isn’t in their blood. It’s a tough one to call…. (C) We just played FSR, and they are some feisty mofo’s. I don’t think they’re going to make it easy on Tiger Blood. (J) It’ll be close, but Tiger Blood will pull out the win. Not only because it’s my team, but

also because we have heart! Tom’s Prediction: FSR Charm’s Prediction: FSR James’ Prediction: Tiger Blood

Sloppy Seconds

Stranger Danger

This was the last day of the regular season and Sloppy desperately needed a win. We were up against the commissioner of the league. It was a tough battle from both sides. We won a couple matches and then they would win a couple. I didn't know who was going to win this game. It was anyone’s game to win. But luckily we didn't play so Sloppy and we pulled out a victory. My MVP award will have to be to our Duel Threat: Dianna Price and Amy Hamilton.

- Jon Reyes

The games are over! And we're just out to have fun. After playing a few games and watching the reactions of certain individuals as they got out.... Targets were marked. :) Stacey Bolton definitely rocked our socks with a nice 4v1 faceoff. Patrick "The Monster" Hannon hates pink (unless it's on a customized Hurley suit) and Daniel Gard risked ankle injury for the glory of the team. Our post game performance at the bar definitely made up for our loss in the final game of the season.

- Tom Zuppke

Page 11: "The Bench" 6th Edition

Menace 2 Sobriety

Troop 417

Seems like just yesterday we started this great season off with a very quick loss as new teammates meshed and then steam rolled through all competition in our way. Heading into the playoffs we took our a very fun and friendly team of Troop 417. It was our most quiet victory of the season as myself and Roman learned how to play hard and still have fun. And our girls stepped up and all held their own. Game MVP would have to be Ramon and myself for keeping our mouths shut and not adding to our 'angry team' persona that a lot of people think we have. Bar MVP would easily be given to Mike and Ramon for making love on the dance floor. Looking forward to next weeks playoffs!!!

- Craig Horsley

Menace to Sobriety has an odd, yet clearly effective, strategy seeing as they’ve beaten everyone they’ve come across this season. I will say, as the captain of Troop 417, I’d rather be in the front line making outs and getting out with my team than crouching in a corner avoiding action. I’ll give out my awards for the night now. • Most effective last player standing:

Shaun • Since someone commented that he

wants a more awesome award, most awesome goes to: Mitch

• Best and most improved hands: Kyle • Most improved and effective throwing

style: Erin S • Most likely to get the same person out a

million times without it ever counting (we saw it and we count it): Steph

• Most effective strategy: Tyler

• Most targeted but still effective player: JC Most dedicated player for playing through sickness: Brooke

• Most dedicated drinker for missing the games and making it to the bar: Hern

• Female MVP: Rachel • Male MVP: Keith - Erin Freeman

FSR

Honey Badger Don’t Care

Came down to the wire again last Friday for the Honey Badgers! We had no subs and FSR certainly kept us running until the last second. EVERYONE on team Honey Badger Don’t Care kicked arse during regular season and we’re looking to do it during playoffs too!!! Win or no win last Friday, the birthday celebration at Crazy Wing was definitely the highlight!

- Sarah Harsche

This game started out looking pretty good for FSR.. We only had 7 players (3 girls, 4 guys) Thankfully the other team only had 8.. so we were both equally exhausted from playing without anyone to give us breaks. It was so close that at any given moment the score had us up by 1, then tied, then up by 1, then tied... A true nail biter. But in the end FSR pulled out the victory and enjoyed the heck out of the wings and beer at the bar!

- Noelle Walsh

Page 13: "The Bench" 6th Edition

Hit It & Bounce

Bing-Bongs and Chick-A-Dees Man….we are bummed that this season is over L Seems like we were just starting to get into the groove of things! End of season game was pretty good-we were super

pumped! In game 11 NONE of our team got out! Play of the night was when Jay dove across the turf to catch a ball to save Gumby (Matt) from getting out. Go Jay—you’ve got the moves like Jagger! We were so excited with our win that everyone hauled a$$ too Crazy Wing. We totally forgot that we had to ref a game! Sorry guys! But thanks Jay and Michael for staying behind-we owe you!

- Stella- Stella Solorzano

Rough season, but we have definitely earned the motto of "Keepin' it Classy"... Yes, I have a big mouth, and clearly I am at times slightly vocal. By popular demand, here are a few of our gripes from the season... • Terrence & Bobby being more sore from the dancing than playing... And trying to score drugs off the team nurses. • I might have gone off my rocker at the refs during one of the first games for not knowing the rules and telling us

incorrect information... Sorry, Tom! • Terrence not only lost the use of his arm during this same game, but fell out of bed the next morning due to a sore

ass... Lili also learned the hard way that sliding on turf is a poor life choice. • Again, I "lost my shit" on the refs over a head shot, not to mention their lack of vocal fortitude. • Terrence almost booked a flight back from MN when he thought some dude actually beat the crap out of Katy.

Don't mess with the fam', guys! • Again, I had a stern chat with the refs... Just because you got called out for something in the past does NOT make it

a rule. • "That f***er just got hit 3 times and he's still in?!!!! Obviously he didn't read the rules." (THIS was a recurring

theme.) • We might have taken more head shots than other teams, but we gave more boob shots than other teams. "Yeah,

you just got mammogrammed!" -Ed • Another fight with the ref. (Imagine that...) What? You think this is upset? No, baby. I haven't even gotten started.

I can have a piece of you? Sure... Which cheek, darlin'? Because I WILL CUT YOU. (Huh... Another recurring theme.) • I think I dropped more f-bombs than any other captain (or player, for that matter). But, if you know me, you know

that I'll be at the bar with a beer (i.e., many beers) after the games, and everything is cool-- I don't care. Hell, half the time I don't remember what the hell I yelled at who. We work it out, we get it on. We Hit It & Bounce. And we have NO desire to play those a-holes again. So good luck to those of you that do ;)

Cheers! Becki

FSR

The Untouchables This was a fun game going up against Noelle and her team. If JC, Angel or Jimmy were playing, though, I would totally be shaking in my little baby cleats! Good thing for us,

FSR

they weren’t! They certainly put up a good fight against us. I did have a little gripe about this game though. Yes, it’s about you, Mr. Big Boy with the Blue Shorts! We all know the refs can’t see everything because there’s way too many people for only 3 sets of eyes to see, so we expect all the players to be honest, ESPECIALLY if the ball clearly hits you. You can’t just look around after you get hit waiting to see if any of the refs saw it, and just stay in if nothing is said. I think I saw this happened like 4 times with you! COME

ON, man, just be honest! Ok, enough venting. Once again, great job to both teams, this was one of the most fun games we’ve played according to Robbie! Good luck in the tourney!

- Charm Reyes

FSR should have been stoked, coming off a win over Honey Badgers.. but Robbie and Scott from the Untouchables quickly put an end to our high.. They caught everything we threw at them, or did Triple Sow Cow Backflip Handspring Matrix shit to dodge it... They brought their A game and walked away with the win.. FSR walked away with pulled groins, pulled butt muscles and bruised egos... We will see you in the finals Untouchables.. You've been warned!

- Noelle Walsh

Page 15: "The Bench" 6th Edition

Tiger Blood

Rings Around Uranus

It's always going to be a fun game when you play against a team that you've played with or against in another social sport. I play kickball with half of the Rings Around Uranus in Hampton. The game went back and forth til the 7th or 8th match and it was when we started to win 3 matches in a row. Once we were up, it was hard for them to come back. Their dodgeball strategy was different to the other teams that we had played against but we adapted quickly. In the end, Tiger Blood was victorious. Great game by all.

- James Salgado

Page 16: "The Bench" 6th Edition

Sloppy Seconds

Troop 417

This is a rematch game for both teams. Troop 417 took a shalacking the first time we played them. They wanted revenge and was hungry for some blood. This go around was no joke. Troop 417 put a strong fight till the end. This game could of gone either way. But once again Sloppy was able to hold on to the lead and pull out a 2nd victory for the night. Beer and Wings at the bar...Holla! I have had a great time this season with all the new people I've meet and learning the Wobble Wobble and Copperhead Road Dance.

- Jon Reyes

This was a rough battle between two teams trying to scrape their way a little higher into the mix of teams. There was quite a bit of yelling, some controversial calls (in my opinion), a near fight at the end and a bit of blood shed, literally, but it really was a fun game to play. My team went on a several game win streak near the end and thought we could stage a comeback, but Jon’s team came through in the end. I think the score of the game shows how much my team has improved this season. This team annihilated us 11-2 in week one and we hung in there with a more respectable 8-6 last week. Good job guys! Happy Birthday Tyler! We hope it is as fantastic as you are!

- Erin Freeman

45th Annual SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

March 17, 2012

Who wants to walk in the Norfolk St. Patrick’s Day

parade and help represent St. Jude Children’s Hospital?

Channel 3 News, in collaboration with representatives from St. Jude’s local

chapter, will be walking together in the parade on Saturday, March 17th. The

parade route is about 1.5 miles long starting on Granby Street. You will be

giving out beaded necklaces and candy (both will be provided to you) to the

children along the parade route.

The float will be in place by 8:30a.m. to do final decorations near

Northside Middle School (on Granby) and the parade steps off promptly

at 10am. If you can’t find the float, ask anyone in a green jacket to direct

you to the Channel 3/St. Jude float.

On-street parking is available on most of the adjacent blocks along the route,

but it is best to park at Ocean View Elementary and then take one of the

shuttle buses to the parade set up. This school is located near the end of the

parade route and near the After Parade Party.

The After Parade party, presented by the Columbian Club of Ocean View

starts at noon at the Knights of Columbus Lot at 211 W. Government Ave.

There will be food, refreshments, and live music. Admission is FREE and

open to the public!

Wear your best St. Patty’s gear and be ready for some fun! If you have any

questions or plan on participating, please contact Joette Neubauer on

Stranger Danger (Red Team) at 757-375-3422.

The Dirt

Menace 2 Sobriety really brings out the uhhh……..FUN in people!

Page 21: "The Bench" 6th Edition

The Hookup Not only will Amber out drink you, but she will hit you in the head with a dodgeball in the process. This woman knows what she wants when she enters a place and when it comes to Crazy Wing that would be spicy garlic wings and a cold beer. If you are able to keep up with her on the dance floor when Wobble or Copper Head Road starts playing then maybe, just maybe you will be able to get a word or two in with her. But if not, then there is always Facebook creeping that could work. If all that fails, then better just give up because this is one focused woman who knows what she wants in life and won't stop until she gets it.

Sarah might seem like a tough cookie from the outside but her ankle and her heart will tell you otherwise. But don't think you can just win her over by sending her poems and flowers. You are better off buying her a beer or shot at the bar and then pouring it on her head. That is the quickest way to her heart. Seriously though this is a very hard working woman who doesn't have time to play little games with little boys. She is having fun with her life but wouldn't mind kissing prince charming because she has been kissing frogs the whole time.

Gosnold Apartments

About Gosnold Apartments With the adaptive reuse of an RC Cola bottling warehouse, Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH) created Gosnold Apartments, as the first permanent supportive housing development for homeless adults in the region and the first regionally-supported studio apartments for homeless single adults in the nation. This is the first of several buildings of this type that helps to give homeless individuals a second chance. Many of these individuals have physical and/or mental illnesses, some are veterans, some are elderly and others just need a second chance in life. Thursday night a Bingo game is held at Gosnold where the residents win practical prizes (ie: hygiene products, household items, and food) that they are unable to purchase on their own. The individuals that host the Bingo nights purchase these prizes each week and the current economy is leaving resources low making it difficult for this program to continue successfully.

How you can help….. We are asking that individuals contribute what they can to the cause by bringing any of the items listed below, or other similar items, to the dodgeball games on Friday, March 2nd. Possible items include: cleaning products, dish detergent, laundry detergent, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, aluminum foil, trash bags, body wash, razors, lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, canned goods, etc.

What’s in it for you: Helping out an awesome cause and FREE BEER. The team with the most items collected will win beer and wings for your whole team.
