with the Depression. O Life was harsh with many out of work

and many underpaid. O Homelessness was a major problem. O The entire world was struggling.

OBut was it all bad?

The MoviesO The 1930s was a wonderful time for

movies. Many of the most popular genres of movies became popular during this time. Exciting examples include:

O The Adventures of Robin HoodO Alice in Wonderland O FrankensteinO Gone with the WindO Dracula O The Wizard of Oz

The Three StoogesO The Three Stooges

was a popular series of “shorts,” literally short movies.

O Eventually, they gained a TV show.

O There were actually SIX stooges. Larry, Curley, Moe, Shemp, and two Joes!

Popular Cartoons!

O Disney began in the 1920s but became famous in 1934 with Snow White.

O Mickey also debuted in the 20s but became famous in the thirties.

O Warner Brothers began producing Looney Tunes in 1930. It’s earliest stars were Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. Eventually (1940) Bugs Bunny became a major star!

Comic Books! O Batman first

appeared in Detective Comics 27 in 1939.

O Comics had been out for years. But the first comic producing new stories came out in 1935.

O Action Comics 1, the first appearance of Superman, came out in June 1938.
