April Fool’s Books for Kidsuntil April 22Children are invited to attend the library and choose from our display of wrapped books, using just a short description as a guide! Will you be an April Fool or an April Cool? Will you love it or hate it or just, meh? Take a chance! For kids ages 6 and up.

Pool TournamentApril 1, 7-11 p.m.Do you think you’ve got mad pool skills? Prove it! Compete in a classic bar pastime at the Zone with our free pool tables. Open to ID Card Holders 18 and over.

AUDI ExperienceApril 2Be a kid again! See the entire production of an Audi at the Ingolstadt plant. In the press shop feel the pressure produced by the metal‐forming tools; in the body shop you can watch the fascinating ballet performed by welding robots. Learn bonding tech and witness a “marriage” – when the powertrain and body are joined together during final assembly. Visit the century of mobility and become acquainted with the history of the four rings in this one‐hour tour of the museum. You choose your experiences!

Bike NightsApril 7, 14, 21 & 28, 5 p.m.2 groups riding every week: Pick your poison! Radlers…. Our Mountain Bike Club rides the fantastic single track trails on post and helps you gain the skills, practice, and friends to participate in the Race Series Circuit. Rides are designed to accommodate a range of abilities, but will be physically demanding. Joyriders... Join us for a local ride on many of the fantastic trails Bavaria has to offer. We’ll explore all the paved hillside trails and casual forest trails, stopping off at local beer gardens and restaurants to experience Bavarian flavor.

Texas Hold ‘Em TournamentApril 8, 6:45 p.m. Come out to the Zone and enjoy one of America’s favorite card games. Texas Hold’ Em is one of the most popular variants of poker and has fascinated players for many years. $25 buy-ins and rebuys.

Painting with Friends April 8, 6:45 p.m. Come out to the Zone and paint your heart away all while laughing and joking! Each class we paint a “special” surprise painting that gets unveiled the day of. Sign up early as our class fills up quickly.

Hamburg, GermanyApril 9Explore Germany’s Gateway to the World! A river cruise is a good way to get an idea of the port’s size and activity and boating on the Alster Lakes is a special experience. The cafe‐filled Altstadt is a fine area for walking, with bridges across canals, parklands, statues and historic buildings to discover. You can also experience the music culture that launched the Beatles’ career, playing at a variety of clubs in Hamburg’s St. Pauli neighborhood. With a constant breeze and cries of seagulls, you’ll find Hamburg feels almost Scandinavian, world’s away from the Baroque joviality of Bavaria.

Frankenjura Forest Hike April 16Say goodbye to winter and welcome in the spring with our hike through the exhilarating landscape of the Frankenjura. Let Outdoor Recreation guide you on this moderately difficult hike that will allow you to enjoy the calm of the natural landscape as you inhale the fresh spring air. Wear appropriate clothing, footwear and pack a lunch and hydrating liquids. Don’t forget your camera! Transport and guide included.

Wine Tasting EveningApril 22, 5 p.m.Spend the evening relaxing at one of our little hidden treasure local wine destinations. We will take you to a Regensburg Wine Cellar, a Sinzing Winery, and the cozy Gut Loeweneck Cafe located on the scenic Naab River. Each wine outing will offer a diverse sampling of German and Italian wines paired with various artisan appetizers.

Whitewater KayakingApril 23If you are looking for a fun and unique whitewater experience then join us for a day trip that includes paddling one of Germany’s best kayaking destinations: The Wiesent. Your guides will handle the logistics, including transportation, equipment, instruction and fun. By the end of the day, you will have paddled small class I‐II rapids and be able to paddle similar water on your own.

One Day Yoga Hike RetreatApril 24Take your yoga practice one step further – take it outdoors! Find your inner peace during this invigorating one‐day retreat. Our instructor will guide you on a moderate hike to a scenic river, mountain, or lake for an extended yoga practice. You’ll be able to connect further with your body, mind and spirit as you experience yoga in nature while being guided into a deeper sense of relaxation and mindfulness. Healthy snacks will be provided. Bring your yoga mat. Pack water, trail snacks, lunch, yoga mat and extra clothing. Hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

Evening Outdoor Rock ClimbsApril 26, 5 p.m. Join Outdoor Recreation after work or school and climb some of great local crags. We’ll hit up a different climbing area each time we go out so you’ll get a tour of the surrounding wealth that is the Frankenjura Climbing Mecca. Develop your strength and build on what you learn in each climb.

National Library Week and Open HouseApril 26-29, Open House April 26, noon-4 p.m.Visit your library this week and discover all we have to offer! Open House is on April 26 from noon - 4 p.m. with games, refreshments, travel tips and more!

Rainbow Loom ClubApril 26, 3-4 p.m.Do you Loom? Do you want to learn? Come to our monthly Rainbow Loom Club and make some cool bracelets and more. Use our looms and supplies or bring your own. Lots of fun for ages 8 and up! Contact the library for more information.

Eclectic Book ClubApril 26, 5-6 p.m.Now that the kids are back in school, you have more time to read, right? Join the library’s Eclectic Book club as we embark on epic journeys through books, with the added deliciousness of talking about them afterwards! Newcomers are always welcome.

Paws to Read Returns!April 26 - June 2, Registration starts April 12Read to a dog? Why not? Dogs love to listen and they don’t judge! If your child, ages 5 and over, is struggling to read or doesn’t like to read, let our reading dogs work their magic! Sign up today, as slots will fill up quickly. Lucky is back, and we have a new dog, Hans, a friendly Great Dane.

Family Make-a-CraftApril 27, 1:30-4 p.m. Get your family together and create family-friendly, fun crafts for all ages at the library! Drop in to make it and take it!

Rumpelstiltskin Puppet ShowApril 28, 11:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.Hohenfels High School Drama students partner with the library to present “Rumpelstiltskin”, a puppet show for ages 3 and over. Two showings to fit everyone’s schedule! Contact the library for more information.

Beginner’s Fitness ProgramApril 28 - June 13Do you ever get overwhelmed or intimidated at the gym? Are you bored with your workout and want to spice it up a little? Come participate in our 8 week Amateur to Expert series. Each week we focus on a different type of training and give you an example workout plan. You can pick one week or come to all 8, the choice is yours! Classes are Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. or Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Class Mondays, 11 a.m. - noonHola! Servus! Hello! Do you need to brush up on your English speaking skills? Did you know that ACS offers free English Conversation class? All you have to do is call ACS so we can schedule you for English practice during our weekly class.

Kids KonnectionWednesdays and Thursdays, 9-11 a.m.This twice weekly playgroup offers a fun and diverse format featuring music time, free play and special activity stations. Redefined for ages 6 weeks to 4 years, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our Hohenfels community. Bring your child, a mid-morning snack and join in on the fun.

Baby Boot CampThursdays, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.If you think about it, the reason for Boot Camp, really the reason for any kind of training is to get ready for the ‘main’ event. This newly revised 7-part rotating program is for those who are expecting a new arrival that answers questions most books and programs don’t. Geared for parents-to-be, this workshop covers topics such as birth certificate process in Germany, breast feeding, personal expectations, bringing baby home and much more.

Hearts Apart Coffee GroupApril 5, 9-10 a.m.This program is designed to support spouses whose partner is on an unaccompanied tour or deployment. Share common concerns, ask questions and participate in social activities. Bring the kids. We meet at the Hohenfels Java Café.

Volunteer Records - What OPOCs Need To KnowApril 6, 10-11 a.m.This session will provide Organizational Points of Contact (OPOC) guidelines for creating and maintaining Volunteer Service Records, understand the OPOC’s Role with regards to Volunteer Management, ensuring Volunteers gain a thorough knowledge of their position, learn various recognition ideas, tracking hours and Professional Development.

“Why Volunteer?” WorkshopApril 6, 1 - 2 p.m.Are you looking for ways to help out in the community but don’t know where to start? Are you seeking other career enhancing opportunities but need experience to apply? This is a great workshop that shows you where to start and why. We explore the steps necessary to volunteering in the Hohenfels Military Community as well as which organizations are looking for your support.

VMIS Training for VolunteersApril 7, 11 a.m. - noonThe course is a step by step guide to the Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS). Learn how to register as a volunteer, create your profile, apply for volunteer positions and log your volunteer hours. If you are a new volunteer or new to the Hohenfels community and want to volunteer, this course is for you.

VMIS Training for OPOCsApril 7, 1-2 p.m.This one hour program is designed specifically for volunteer points of contact for local units and organizations. This class provides detailed information on the web based Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS) site, how to add a volunteer and their hours into the system, create and add position descriptions, view applicant information, set up meetings with potential volunteers who have applied and understand the importance of tracking hours.

CARE Team TrainingApril 13, 2-5 p.m.This training prepares you to support Family or unit members when any kind of casualty occurs. This training covers the steps taken during the notification process as well as the roles and responsibilities that must take place before, during and after a casualty takes places.

Family Karaoke NightApril 22, 4-8 p.m.This fun event is open to everyone in the Hohenfels community that wants to participate, so share it with friends, families and neighbors. There are over 25,000 songs to choose from including classics, movies, hip-hop, pop and more. A good singing voice is not required.

Smooth Move WorkshopApril 27, 1-3 p.m. Is your upcoming PCS stressing you out? How do I plan for a PCS move? Are you lost and have no idea what to do? When should you contact your landlord to let them know you’re leaving? How much will the move cost me? Will my spouse be able to find a job at our next duty station? What am I entitled to? All these questions and more will be answered.
