Why choose inSafe? there are very clear benefits to this proven system...

A ‘Safer Sharp System’ which is compatible with all needle types and has an easy to use mechanism meaning, when not in use, the needle is protected at all times by a lockable sleeve.

the anaesthetic cartridge is changeable during procedures, there is a choice of aspiration techniques and inSafe incorporates a fully autoclaveable syringe. the weight and feel is just like a conventional syringe.

the inSafe system has been extensively tested, is fully reliable and ensures the care provider is fully in control of the procedure thereby not compromising patient care.

these regulations, applicable from May 2013, implemented aspects of the European council Sharps directive (2010/32/Eu) that were not specifically addressed in gB legislations.

the sharps regulations build on existing laws for healthworkers and include guidance on the use and disposal of medical sharps.

the first action is to avoid any unnecessary use of sharps. Where this is not possible a ‘Safer Sharp System’ must be used. A safer sharp is one which incorporates a needle protection mechanism.

Health & Safety What does it say?(Sharp instruments in Healthcare) regulations 2013

Between 2002 and 2011 most occupational exposures involved nursing professions.

Medical and dental professions reported a similar number of occupational exposures as nursing professions in 2011 (231 compared to 237), with exposures in Medical and dental professions increasing by 131% (100 to 231) between 2002 and 2011.Health Protection Agency, Eye of the needle report december 2012

– if activation of the safety mechanism is straightforward it is more likely to be used

– if the safety mechanism is integral to the device and that it cannot be lost or misplaced

– Single handed or automatic activation is preferable

– An audible, tactile or visual signal that the mechanism has correctly activated

– the safety mechanism is not easily reversible

consider the following in the selection of a safer sharp system:

the re-capping of needles must be prevented and secure containers and instructions for safe disposal of medical sharps close to the work area (regulation 5(1)(d)) coSHH regulations require systems to dispose of contaminated waste safely.

the sharps regulations supplement this by requiring that clearly marked and secure containers be placed close to areas where medical sharps are used. instructions for staff for safe disposal must also be placed in those areas.
