Fourth Sunday of Advent December 23, 2018

FROM THE PASTOR...

T his is the 4th Sunday of Advent. In our Gospel we have the account of the Visitation, the second joyful mystery of the Rosary, when Mary goes to visit and assist her kinswoman, Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist. As the infant John is illed with the Holy Spirit and leaps in Elizabeth’s womb, she is then illed with the Spirit as well and cries out, “and how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me.” As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, the birth of our Lord this Tuesday, we too can cry out like Elizabeth, how does this happen to us that the Lord of creation should come to us who are sinners! My brothers and sisters, it happens to us for no other reason than that God loves us so much that he was willing to send his Son to be born of Mary. He sent his Son Jesus to be born for us so that our sins might be forgiven, and we might be able to be with God in Heaven forever! This is great love. This is amazing love. Why does he love us so much that even when we ignore or abandon God in our lives, sometimes for years, He still wants us to be with him? The mystery of God’s love for us is immense. We will never truly understand how He can love us so much until we are in Heaven with Him ourselves. Let us then simply accept the gift of God’s love and strive to return our love to Him. Christmas, it is the feast of amazing love. Let us rejoice and be glad! With Mary and Joseph, let us sing for joy as God’s chosen ones! May you all have a most blessed and joy- illed Christmas, my friends. God grant that everyone will be able to gather with loved ones and friends and share good will and faith. Those who will be traveling, may you do so safely and return to us rested and joy illed. May God bless us, everyone! Merry Christmas, Fr. Glen PleasenotethescheduleofmassesforChristmasEveandChristmasDay.TheearlymassonChristmasEveatSt.PeterandPaulisonehourearlierthanlastyear.

Baptisms: Parent preparation session is required. Please contact the Parish Office for information.

Marriages: Make arrangements with the pastor 6-8 months in advance. You must be a registered parishioner at least six months prior to beginning marriage preparation. Cohabiting couples will normally be required to separate before scheduling a wedding.

A Christmas Gift for Each Parish Family

A fter all of our Christmas Masses, the ushers will be handing out a book to each family called SignsofLife, 20CatholicCustomsandTheirBiblicalRoots,written by Dr. Scott Hahn.
