What comes to mind when you hear the

word “children”? Beautiful? Adorable? Gift?

Inspiration? All are most certainly true. As the

father of five, I have had my share of those emotions

and insights. These past eighteen years, my

children have taught me more than I ever

thought I could learn. I didn’t know I could love

so much.

But it’s entirely possible that the words

that came to your mind were not quite as fluffy

and cuddly as the above mentioned adjectives.

Perhaps they were more along the lines of: loud;

chaos; messy; disobedient. Yup. Been there,

too. How could something so beautiful and

inspiring cause me so much consternation and

grey hair? Children are, at the same time, the

best part of us and a constant struggle.

In our second reading today, we hear a

short, but powerful, passage from the First Letter

of John. “See what love the Father has bestowed

on us that we may be called the children of God.

Yet so we are. Beloved, we are God’s children

now.” Not tomorrow. Not when we get our act

together. Not when we get to the Kingdom.

Now. Today. Here. Our God sees us much like

we see our own children - in all our beauty and

chaos, and, thankfully, He loves us in the midst

of it. Jesus understood family life because he

lived it himself.

In fact, Jesus often used this as a basis

for stories he told. A man had two sons. One

of them came to the father and said, effectively,

‘Dad, I don’t want to wait until you die to receive

my inheritance. Can you give it to me now?’

And off he went to squander his money. But, as

is often the case, the child does come home…

and this coming home leads to a celebration,

not reprimand.

Or take another example from Matthew’s

Sermon on the Mount: “Which one of you would

hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of

bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish? If

you then, who are wicked, know how to give

good gifts to your children, how much more will

your heavenly Father give good things to those

who ask him.”

Parents, we have been given a great insight

into the mind and heart of God. As much as

you love your child and are driven crazy by them

at the same time – even more does our God love

us and care for us in the midst of our chaos, our

messiness and our disobedience. He waits for

us to ask Him for bread, and He gives us his very

self. He watches down the road for our return and

upon the slightest hint of a turning, he runs to

meet us. What do we call this? We call it salvation.

In the first reading from Acts of the Apostles,

Peter reminds us “There is no salvation through

anyone else, nor is there any other name under

heaven given to the human race by which we are

to be saved.” This is what it means to be saved

– to realize that we are loved as we are - not just

when we are as we should be, because none of

us are as we should be. And salvation means

we allow that love to change us. To make us

new. We begin to mirror it and grow into it just

as we hope that our example of love and patience

rubs off on our children. It gives us a safe place

to come home to when all seems upside down

in our worlds, where we know we are loved.

It’s the only name by which we are saved

because no one and nothing else can offer us

that. Allow yourself to be a child today…

Readings for the Week Monday Acts 11:1-18/Jn 10:1-10

Tuesday Acts 11:19-26/Jn 10:22-30

Wednesday Acts 12:24—13:5a/Jn 12:44-50

Thursday Acts 13:13-25/Jn 13:16-20

Friday Acts 13:26-33/Jn 14:1-6

Saturday Acts 13:44-52/Jn 14:7-14

Weekend Acts 9:26-31/1 Jn 3:18-24/Jn 15:1-8 Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “In Christ we find our ability to bear fruit and glorify God, thereby receiving his blessings.” We must understand the importance of being firmly connected to Jesus Christ. This unity not only makes us true children of God, but it empowers us to bear the presence of Christ in the world – to carry

on his mission in our words and deeds.

fourth Tuesday of each month at

1:00 p.m., the next one being this

Tuesday, April 28. Please join us

VIRTUS Session

All employees of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay,

as well as any volunteer, age 18 and over, who have

direct contact with children or youth should attend a

VIRTUS session. We will be hosting a training session at

SS. Peter & Paul on Thursday, May 21 from 6-9 pm in

the rectory. Holy Trinity in School Hill will be also be

hosting a VIRTUS on Wed. May 6 from 6-9 in the parish hall.

Go to http://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/, click on registration

on the left side, and begin the registration process. You

must select the Green Bay (diocese) and continue on with

the registration. If you do not have access to a computer,

please call your parish office to register.

Steinthal Chapel Mass

An outdoor Mass will be celebrated at the Mary, Queen

of Hearts Chapel in Steinthal on Tuesday, April 28 in

honor of St. Louis De’Montford’s Feast Day. A Rosary

will begin at 11 am with Mass to follow at 11:15. Be sure

to bring lawnchairs. All are welcome!

Why Give to the Bishop's Appeal?

And the king will say to them in reply, “Amen, I say

to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers

of mine, you did for me.”

Matthew 25:40

Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal will help in countless

ways. Care ministers are trained to go out and share

the Gospel with the homebound and sick. Children

and families are able to attend lively, interactive education

programs learning the Word of God. A young

woman in an abusive relationship is able, through

counseling with Catholic Charities, to stand on her

own feet. Families seeking to adopt are connected

with newborn babies. Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal

makes happy endings possible.

91% of every dollar raised goes to Diocesan ministries

and services right here in northeastern Wisconsin.

Make a tremendous difference, and give to the

Bishop’s Appeal. How much you give is less important

than the spirit in which you give, and even small donations

add up to large donations. To make a gift today

contact your parish, visit the Bishop’s Appeal website

at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give, or call Debbie

toll-free at 877-500-3580, ext. 8184.

Mother’s Day Mass Memorial Cards

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. To honor all those mothers, grandmother’s, wives, sisters and friends, we will have the Masses said for them the weekend of May 9 & 10. If you would like to be a part of this, there is a table set up in the worship space with memorial envelopes and cards on it. Or you may also stop in the office any time before May 1.

If the person you would like to remember is no longer living, then take a memorial envelope, fill it out, place your offering within (whatever amount you like) and place it in the basket on the table.

If the person you would like to honor is still living, do the same as above (with the memorial envelope), but also take a Mother’s Day card and envelope to send to them so they know a Mass is being said for them.

Grounds Cleaning-Thank You! Thank you to all the parishioners who helped to clean up the church grounds and cemetery on Tuesday, April 21. A special thanks to Joe Mierzejewski for his time and the use of his lawn equipment. Thanks for braving the blustery spring weather to spruce up the grounds!

2015 Bishop’s Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation toward this year’s appeal. We have reached our goal of $7,104.00, but we are asking for your contribution if you have not yet given. When we exceed our goal, part of that amount goes to pay our balance due from previous years when we did-n’t make our goal. Your continued support is very much appreciated!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Hunter Pitzen & Oliver DeBruin, who received First Eucharist this Sunday, April 26. May God always fill them with His gracious presence.

We Appreciate your Stewardship…

We are grateful and amazed by your generosity and giving-not only to our Carpet Fund, but also the Bishop’s Appeal, Lenten Project, and various other special collections. Now, it’s time to attend to the daily needs of our parish. This is a gentle reminder that we need your stewardship to “keep the lights on and the place warm” as you’re welcomed here for Mass each week. It’s easy to misplace the daily needs of the parish when so many other worthwhile collec-tions take place, and now our stewardship is a bit lagging. Please remember the parish needs your giving as well. Thank you.

Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive

Today, the Knights of Columbus will be conducting their annual Tootsie Roll Drive to aid citizens with intellectual disabilities. Your generosity is always appreciated.
