If married, you must be married in the church. You must attend Mass regularly. The use of your envelope each week will tell us that you are attend-ing regularly. This will avoid problems or embarrass-ments in the future.

On May 30th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm Trinity United

Methodist Church will be having a Stuffed Pork

Loin Dinner. Price for adults is $10, children $5

and children under 4 free. The meal consists of

salad, soup, entrée, dessert and beverage.

URGENT APPEAL

PLEASE HELP THE HOUSE OF CHARITY

HOUSE OF CHARITY/BISHOPS ANNUAL APPEAL Our Parish House of Charity appeal started in February. Each week since then we have an ap-

peal in our church bulletin asking for your help. As of today, (May 20th), 384 parishioners have

responded with a total of $66,591 in gifts and pledges. Sincere thanks to all who have helped so

far. However, with an assigned parish goal of $88, 514 we have a long way to go and time is get-

ting short until we have to make our final parish report on June 23rd. Will you help us collect

the remaining $21,923. It shouldn’t be too hard. Even if each family donated ten, twenty, thirty

or fifty dollars we would go over our goal. I appeal to your Parish Pride. PLEASE HELP US THIS

WEEK! God Bless you, House of Charity Parish Committee.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Before I went to the hospital last October I had announced that we would have coffee and donuts on a

future Sunday to honor Deacon Frank Crosson on his official retirement from active ministry and to

honor Sr. Maureen Cooper as she left our parish to live in the Manor of St. Mary in Cherry Hill. Due to

my hospitalization that “GET TOGETHER “ did not happen but is rescheduled for Sunday, June 7th

after the 9:30 and 11:30 am Masses. Please plan to stop into the rectory then if only for a few minutes.

PENTECOST

Pentecost is the Solemnity on which we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early

followers of Jesus. Before the events of the first Pentecost, which came fifty days after Jesus’ death

and resurrection, there were followers of Jesus, but no formal movement that could be meaningfully

called “the church.” Thus, from an historical point of view, Pentecost can be viewed as the day on

which the church began. However, Pentecost, coming from the Greek word “fifty” or “fiftieth day”,

was not invented by the early Christians. Instead, they borrowed it from Greek-speaking Jews who used the

phrase to refer to a holiday known as the Festival of Weeks (Shavuot). Originally a harvest festival (Exod. 23:16),

Pentecost, in time, turned into a day to commemorate the giving of the law to Moses on Mt. Sinai. This day later

became especially significant for Christians because, seven weeks after the resurrection of Jesus, during the

celebration of Shavuot, the Holy Spirit was poured out upon his first followers, thus empowering them for their

mission and gathering them together as a church. That first Pentecost occurred as a group of Christ’s disciples

had gathered in Jerusalem during the Shavuot recorded in Acts, Chapter 2: The Spirit energized the disciples

and empowered them to continue Jesus’ mission to proclaim the good news of salvation and gather everyone

into Jesus’ kingdom community. They demonstrated this power by speaking in languages understood by the

visitors to Jerusalem from across the ancient lands.

MEMORIAL DAY

Please take time to remember our service men and women, living and deceased, this weekend. Let

us not forget that the freedoms we enjoy come at a great, great price. Why not come to Mass on

Monday, May 25th at 8 am? There will also be a ceremony at the Monument close to the Municipal

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process through which people become fully initi-

ated members of the Catholic Church. They come together on a weekly basis in order to learn about

Jesus Christ and His Church, to experience community and to grow closer to God. Are you someone

who has never been baptized and who feels an attraction to this church? Are you a baptized Christian

who would like to explore our Catholic tradition? Are you a baptized Catholic and want to receive the

Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation? If so, perhaps God is calling you. If you would like more infor-

OFFICE OF YOUTH, YOUNG ADULT AND CAMPUS MINISTRY

WYD2016 & Jubilee of Mercy = Life-Changing Pilgrimage for Youth Adult. Bishop Sullivan and the Diocese of

Camden, Metuchen and Trenton are leading a Pilgrimage for those ages 18-39 from July 22 to August 2016 to

World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland. This 12 day life- changing journey of faith will include praying with the Holy

Father and millions of youth/young adults from around the world, as well as trips to Auschwitz, Czestochowa,

Divine Mercy Sanctuary and Zakopane, plus pre/post pilgrimage experiences at home. Only $3,625 (twin room).

THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA

St. Joseph The Worker Women’s Club along with Fr. Link are sponsoring a trip to the National Shrine of Our Lady

of Czestochowa on June 4th, $70 per person. Includes transportation, tour of the Shrine upon arrival followed by

Mass at 11:30 am. Luncheon at the Washington House in Sellersville, Pa. Deposit of $30 is required when mak-

ing reservations, final payment is due May 23rd. Bus will leave from St. Vincent Pallotti parking lot at 8 am and

Pentecost Sunday

"'Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me.' He said this in reference to the Spirit."

Rivers of living water. What does this image make us think of? Something active. Something dynamic and

changing, yet constant and dependable. A river with living water is not stagnant; it is not silent, but rather it

speaks. This river is not mucky or full of algae. This river is clear, beautiful, refreshing, and life-giving. It draws

people to its banks by providing the kind of water that sustains life and the kind of scenery that is a joy to behold.

Those who believe in Jesus will be like this river. Through the Spirit of Christ, which first came upon Christian

believers at Pentecost and which came upon us at our baptism, we become a source of "living water." Instead of

being motionless, dull, murky, unproductive people, we are strengthened by God's power to be dynamic, re-

freshing, and life-giving.

This isn't automatic, however. We must cooperate with the Spirit that has been given to us. Those of us who

have received confirmation have been sacramentally gifted with the fullness of the Spirit, but that doesn't mean

that the living water is flowing at full speed. As St. Paul wrote in his second letter to Timothy, we need to "stir into

flame the gift of God" (1:6). The flame may be there, but if we don't fan it through prayer, virtuous living, spiritual

formation, and frequent reception of the sacraments, then it will never burst forth with the full power that it could

have. But let us take heart! Even this process of "fanning" is made easier when we call upon the Holy Spirit to

help us. For St. Paul reminds us today that "the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness."

What is the World Meeting of Families?

The World Meeting of Families is a week-long international event of prayer, catechesis, and celebration

that draws participants from around the globe. It seeks to strengthen the bonds between families and to

witness to the crucial importance of marriage and the family to all of society. The World Meeting of

Families consists of a Theological Adult Congress, and a concurrent Youth Congress (ages 6-17), fol-

lowed by The Festival of Families and the Papal Mass. Pope Francis will not be attending the Congress.

Where can I see Pope Francis?

On Saturday night, Sept. 26, the Festival of Families will take place. This is a celebratory event for fami-

lies that will include different types of cultural and musical performances. The Festival of Families will be

attended by the Holy Father.

On Sunday, Pope Francis will celebrate Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. The

time for the Mass has not yet been determined. The Mass will be open to the public.

Is there a cost?

The World Meeting of Families Congress event does require purchased tickets. Pricing and packages

are available on the World Meeting of Families website.

All Papal events—the Festival of Families and Mass—are free of charge and open to the public.
