begin our Jubilee and celebrate our parish feast, as well as many spiritual, liturgical, and social events that can help re-new us and enable us to grow as a community. One of those events is a concert to benefit our Food Pantry by a nationally acclaimed musician from Naples, Florida named Paul Todd. The benefit concert is on Monday evening, October 12th in the Pahler Center and tickets are free. We just ask that every-one who attends make a free will offering to benefit our Food Pantry. Some of our parishioners who spend Winters in Flori-da know Paul Todd and his tremendous music talent very well (he is the music director of a very large Catholic parish in Naples) and are very excited to have him come here. Most do not know him, but I assure you - and I have experienced his musical talent and know his pastoral heart - you will really enjoy this wonderful evening. Free tickets will be available in the parish office very soon, and you will be hearing much more about this. I think you will have a wonderful evening, but more importantly, our Food Pantry can benefit from this in a major way. Just for your information, I just received the July report for our Food Pantry and in July we provided 32,580 meals. We really need your support. This concert can be a win-win situation. Please consider coming and helping us out. Also, please consider helping our St. Vincent de Paul Confer-ence with their annual Walk for the Poor on Saturday, Sep-tember 26th at 9:00 am at Concord Woods. Our community is invited to walk and especially pledge to this life changing organization. All proceeds go directly to our St. Vincent de Paul Conference, so please indicate our conference when making a pledge or registering. Contact our Conference Presi-dent: Paul Malchesky, [email protected]. Did you notice that the days are getting shorter and that it gets lighter later in the morning and darker earlier in the evening? Also, did you notice that our parking lot is busier than ever now that school is back and our programs are resuming and sports are going full force? You know where this message is going. Please be extremely careful in the parking lot! Slow down. Get off your phone. Observe the enter and exit signs at all times. People’s lives are at stake, and some of those “people” are very little people. Please don’t wait until some-thing tragic happens. There have already been a number of close calls. I know it is not always convenient, but, SAFETY FIRST!!! Have a great week. Be opened - God will be speaking to you. Be opened - let your mouth and your life sing God’s praises. Thanks for the great people you are. Be filled with God’s love, peace, and joy. In God’s love,

My Sisters and Brothers, “Ephphatha!” - that is, “Be opened!” Jesus opened the ears of the deaf person and removed his speech impediment. We repeat that prayer at the Baptism of infants, praying that the child’s ears will be open to hear God’s Word, and that child’s mouth will be open to proclaim God’s praise. Would that we should pray that same petition for each of us over and over as we strive to live our Baptism. God continually is speaking to us, but often we are spiritually deaf. Perhaps there is too much other noise or distractions going on that distort the Word of God. We all seem to speak very fluently and very profusely, but often it is in words of judgement, gossip, negativity and even cruelty. None of that gives praise to God. Whatever speaks with love and gratitude ultimately gives praise to God. May Jesus touch our ears and our mouths that we can truly “be opened”. Monday is Labor Day, a holiday for most of us, and a time to rest from our labors and pray for all those whose work bene-fits us personally and as a society. God gives dignity to the work of our hands, especially when it is done with care, chari-ty and diligence. It is easy to take for granted those workers whose work may not be all that glamorous, but without which we could not do without. Think about those people and go out of your way to show some appreciation. Many are still unem-ployed, underemployed or very unhappy with their employ-ment. Let us pray for them in a special way. In other words, Monday is more than a day to just relax and have a picnic. It can and should be a time to become more aware and more supportive and prayerful for our sisters and brothers who work so hard to provide for their families and to make our world a better place. I really encourage you to begin the day by cele-brating Mass at 9:00 am and asking God to bless our “work”. Thank you for all your labors for our parish. This weekend we welcome Pin-Hsuan Huang as our new lead pianist for Masses on Sundays. Pin-Hsuan, originally from Taiwan, comes with an extensive background and expe-rience in music and collaborative piano and will undoubtedly become a tremendous asset to our already great music minis-try. Please welcome her and help her to feel at home here. We continually are looking for, AND REALLY NEED, new members for our choir. I assure you it will be a great experi-ence and a great service to God and our parish. Give Kevin Donahue a call and allow yourself to be a means of making a difference in worshiping our God. Rehearsals resume on Sep-tember 10th. In three weeks we will kick-off our 50th Anniversary Jubilee Year. Everything we do within the context of this jubilee which culminates on July 10th, 2016 has special meaning and potential in one way or another to help us REDISCOVER yesterday * RENEW today * RE-EVANGELIZE tomorrow. I am really looking forward to our special kick-off weekend to

The program costs $20, which covers the cost of the books and the CD. Please call the parish office this week to reserve your book and your place in the program!

Coming Back Home …

Come back to rediscover a life of worship and relation-ship with our Lord!

In the Gospel today, we hear that many of Jesus’ disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accom-panied Jesus. After this, Jesus turned to his disciples and asked: “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter then answered “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

In your journey of faith, do you know someone who has left the Church? Most of us do not have to look far to find non-practicing Catholics in our circle of family and friends. Many of us are concerned about these loved ones. How can we help them find their way back home?

Through prayer and invitation, we can bring them to the realization Peter had when asked by Christ if he wanted to leave - to ultimately realize that Christ has the words of eternal life that we desperately need in our own lives.

Over the next few weeks, please invite these friends, fam-ily members, and relatives to come to this six session “Awakening Faith” series that will help individuals ex-plore the way home and reconnect them to the life of faith and community they need to flourish in life.

Please bring them along with yourself - it is good to walk with them and show them support as they come back to worship and deepen their relationship with our God.

The series will run on Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm October 1st to November 5th in the Community Room facilitated by Fr. Jeremy.

October 1: Sharing our stories & the spiritual life.

October 8: Who is Jesus?

October 15: Do we need the Spirit?

October 22: Can I accept God’s mercy?

October 29: Can Mass make my life meaningful?

November 5: The Church and Me?

Our 3rd Annual Community Day of Service

is Saturday, November 14!

Join us for a day of community service, celebrating at Mass,

and fellowship at our Thank You Dinner.

What volunteers are saying about last year…..

“We knew we would benefit from the experience but we did not realize how many great people we would come into contact with that day. We left with a great feeling and sense of accomplishment. We felt that we impacted others and brought others happiness on that day.” Linette “It was a good opportunity for our whole family to be part of a service project.” Tina

LITURGY CORNER

We’re celebrating Labor Day this weekend. Labor Day was created to commemorate the establishment of our nation’s labor unions and is dedicated to the social and eco-nomic achievements of our nation’s workers. In early 2013, Pope Francis pointed out, "Work is fundamental to the dignity of a person. . . . It gives one the ability to maintain oneself, one's family, to contribute to the growth of one's own nation." So

don’t think of Labor Day as just another opportunity for a three day weekend, cookouts, and the last picnics of the summer. It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate God’s work and to show honor and respect to America’s workers, as St. Paul urged us “to anticipate one another in showing honor" (Rom 12:10). We’ll have this opportunity at our an-nual Labor Day Mass, 9:00 am Monday morning. Please come and pray for America’s workers.

Father Pahler’s 25th Anniversary - during Mass Father tapped the microphone and said

“Something is wrong with this”, and the congregation answered “And also with You”.

As Father Pahler arrived for his 1st day on the job,

all us 8th graders got out of our seats (this was Sister Brendan’s class) and went to the window to

“check him out”. As he drove up in his car, he came over to the window to say hello.

Communal Penance September 14 - 7:00 pm On Monday, September 14th, at 7:00 pm in the Church, we are having a Communal Penance Celebration. It has been our tradition to offer penance celebrations during Advent and Lent. In

recent years we added another celebration in September because people were asking for another communal oppor-tunity. The beginning of a new school and year of parish activities is a great time to do this. Experiencing the heal-ing mercy and forgiveness of Jesus in this powerful sacra-ment is a wonderful way to ground us in the message of the Gospel. Additional priests will be available to help us celebrate. Please plan to join us in prayer!
