Clay County Fair Participants

Oh those 4 little words every 4-H member and parent loves to hear… “record books are due”. Yep,

now is the time. While project work draws to a close for the 4-H year and thoughts are fresh, take

time to put your records together.

We’re including some State Fair results in this newsletter to help get you started.

Records are due to your Club Leader at the September meeting and from Leaders

to the Office by October 3. Cash awards are given by the youth council for each

project record. A Gold Project Award receives $5, a Silver Project Award $3, and a

Bronze Project Award $2. These are presented at the Fall Awards Program in

November. (It’s also time to submit for club officer & community service awards.)

Record Keeping Forms can be found here. If you need a record book stop by the office and pick one

up! If you have any questions, please contact the office at 336-3488.

cover to use on the 2017 Dickinson County Fairbook! Create a drawing or

design that shows what 4-H means to you or your favorite things about Fair

and enter it to win! One selected individual will have their artwork

displayed on the cover of the 2017 Dickinson County 4H & FFA Fairbook.

Please bring artwork to the Extension Office or scan and email it to [email protected].

All entries are due Friday September 23rd.

4-H PLEDGE

I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE,

AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.

Youth Council Meeting— Sept 25

The next regular meeting of the Youth Council will be held on Sunday, September 25 at 7:00 PM in the

Dickinson County Extension Office. Note: Meeting will not be held on the 3rd Sunday of the month due

to conflicts with the Clay County Fair, please note this change.

Preliminary agenda items include:

- Planning the Fall Awards Program - 4-H Week & Open House

- Discussing Officer Elections in October - Brainstorming Activities

As a part of 4-H Week Celebrations, staff and Youth Council members will be visiting 4th and 5th grade

classrooms in the county to share about 4-H and to invite youth to attend an Open House at the

Extension Office on Thursday, October 6th from 3:30—6:00 PM.

New members do not need to attend the open house to join 4-H, but we encourage them to come if possible

to find out more about 4-H and to get help with enrollment processes. The Open House is a come and go

format for youth and parents to get questions answered and enrollment forms completed.

If you as a 4-H’er, leader, or parent would like to help with the Open House we

would love it! There will be a light refreshment, some coloring activities for

younger siblings, Extension Choice Awards from fair on display, and work tables

for families to complete paperwork and ask questions.

National 4-H Week—Oct 2-8

What are you or your Club doing to celebrate 4-H Week and spread the word about 4-H? Here are

some ideas for you and your Club to consider:
