The Community House leads the Willowbrook CornerCoalition, which is a group of approximately 21 agencieswho work together to provided services for the residentsof this neighborhood. The neighborhood, commonlyreferred to as Willowbrook Corner, because of its locationin the far south east corner of DuPage County consists of fourapartment and condominium complexes. The residents areprimarily low income, minority, and most families consist ofsingle parent, female lead households.

The Community House has partnered with Burr RidgeSchool District 180 to provide an Academic based andEnriching After School Program for students in grades K-8who reside in Willowbrook Corner. School District 180 providesthe program space at the local Elementary School, AnneM. Jeans, which is located within walking distance to all theapartment complexes in the neighborhood. The district providesthis space free of charge. The students rotate though a seriesof enrichments activities, facilitated by The CommunityHouse staff, and district 180 school teachers from 3-6pm,Monday through Thursday and 3-5pm on Friday. The CommunityHouse also provides day long programming, 8:30am-5:30pmin the school location when school is not in session.

The Community House also provides an Open RecreationalBasketball program for the Middle and High SchoolStudents in the neighborhood. The Basketball Programoperates two nights a week, during the winter months. Theprogram takes place in the gym of Anne M. Jeans, and isfacilitated by Community House staff and a DuPageCounty Sherriff.

The Community House is collaborating with HinsdaleSouth High School (Hinsdale District 86) and will launch asatellite pilot version of the High School’s Excel Program atthe Willowbrook Corner location in January 2011. TheExcel program teaches numeracy, literacy, and ExecutiveFunction skills. The program will run 2 nights weeks untilthe end of the 2010-2011 school year at the Willowbrooklocation, and be facilitated by two Hinsdale South staffmembers as well as one Community House staff member. The space for this program is generously donated by theproperty management of Hinsdale Lake Terrace.

Programs like this, which exist to meet a specific need inthis neighborhood, would not be possible without the continuedcollaborations between The Community House, Burr RidgeCCSD 180 and Hinsdale District 86. In addition, while nominalfees are charged for the programs, based on family size andincome, these programs rely on and are primary sustainedthrough generous donations from individuals, private foundations, and county funding.

SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY HOUSEEach year The Community House benefits fromthe generosity of many people. For those of youconsidering a gift to The Community House, many gift options are available. The most popularare listed below:

MATCHING GIFTSMany employers will match the gifts of employees, retirees and members of the corporate boardwhen their gifts are made to nonprofit organizationssuch as The Community House. The amount ofyour personal gift can be doubled, or eventripled, at no additional cost to you if your companyhas a matching gift program. Please contactyour company’s community affairs or humanresources department to see if a matching giftplan is available and if the The CommunityHouse is eligible.

GIFTS OF CASHA gift of cash is the most common form of charitablegiving. An outright gift to The CommunityHouse qualifies as a federal tax deduction forup to 50% of adjusted gross income. If that limitis exceeded in any one year, the excess deductioncan be “carried over” into the next five years. Agift of cash is considered made on the date it ismailed or hand delivered. Gifts delivered ormailed by December 31 qualify for taxdeductibility for the calendar year. Please makechecks payable to: The Community House.

GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCEA current life insurance policy can be changedor a new policy can be written to name TheCommunity House as owner and beneficiary. Agift of life insurance can provide both a substantialcharitable contribution and tax advantage.

GIFTS BY WILLA carefully prepared will is the best way to

ensure that your loved ones are provided for

after death, and that your preferred charities

are supported as you intend. Once completed,

it can be revised and updated as your wishes

and circumstances change. A simple addition

to a will — “I give, devise and bequeath the

(sum/percentage of/residue of my estate) to The

Community House for such purposes as its

board of trustees shall determine” can provide

long-term benefits for The Community House

and reduce federal estate taxes.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIESOR REAL ESTATEStocks (including mutual funds), many bonds,

other securities and property may make ideal

contributions. When considering the sale of a

particular holding, it is important to first check

with a professional advisor to determine its suitability

as a charitable gift.

MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTSMore and more, it is customary for friends and

family members to express their sympathy

through memorial giving as a meaningful way

to offer consolation on the loss of a friend or relative.

At other times, marking a special occasion or an

achievement by honoring a person, couple or

family through a tribute gift may be appreciated

more than a material gift. The amount of your

gift is kept confidential, and the friend or family

member is informed of your thoughtfulness

through an acknowledgement letter from The

Community House.

If you would like gift planning assistance, please call Heather Graves at (630) 323-7500, ext. 255.
