Hello Division 13!

As we wind the school year down, I would just like to quickly remind you that serving

your communities does not; I will expand on this is the featured article, but please remem-

ber to be engaged with your communities and represent Key Club as best possible. I’ve

seen your potential throughout the school year, so I know that this can be maintained

throughout the summer! As for me, while I will still be serving communities, I will be doing it

in Mexico, where I will be studying with the Student Diplomacy Corps (the image to the

left is one of a beach in Yucatan, where I will be living for a few days). Because of this, I

will be largely unavailable and without internet connection, so there are a few steps you

will need to take to contact the District Board and meet deadlines; I apologize in ad-

vance for any inconveniences this may cause. Additionally, beginning in August, a new

“Member of the Month” feature will be present in my divisional publication. Presidents

must nominate two members from their club for consideration to be featured every

month. This is also an excellent way for you to showcase some of the things that you do as

a club, so be sure to nominate students who represent you well. As the school year winds

down and finals end, I encourage you to take advantage of the lackadaisical nature of

the school atmosphere and hold a few fundraisers and service events before school lets

out. Until then, enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,

Julien Rosenbloom

Staying Involved in the Summer

Months

As the school year winds down, many Key Clubs around

the world face a challenge: maintaining an active student

membership. This is an understandable obstacle, as most

students are delivered information, given opportunities for

volunteering, and initially engaged at club meetings, which

are remarkably difficult to hold during the summer. Howev-

er, while the school year does have an ephemeral end, the

needs of your communities do not, and it is important to

continue engaging with and helping them in all ways possi-

ble. Both the New Jersey District and your respective clubs

will be offering such opportunities, whether it’s attending the

Teen Hunger Institute this July, helping out at your local

foodbank, or assisting kids at a children’s hospital, there are

ample opportunities to maintain your community service

drive! Whenever I am in the states, I will keep you posted,

but if not, check in with other LTGs, your District executives,

club president, and our district website at

www.njkeyclub.org. I cannot wait to see and hear about

the changes you are making in your communities this

summer!

By now, everyone interested in attending ICON should

have made their first payment to the district. For those of

you attending, I’ve outlined below some things you should

expect! Unfortunately, I won’t be in attendance due to my

being out of the country, but I’m extremely jealous of those

of you who can make it. Don’t forget that the NJ District has

two I.T. candidates: Devin Sun and Ricky Thompson.

Spring Regional Training

Conference (RTC) Recap

Having just wrapped up our Spring Regional Training

Conferences about a month ago on May 9th and May 16th,

many officers in our division and district walked away with a

new perspective on their positions, their role in their commu-

nity, and their role in Key Club. Because of their far distance

from many of Division 13’s homes, schools, and communities,

we at the district understand that their were most likely diffi-

culties in terms of adequate means of transportation. If this

reason pertains to you—have no fear! RTCs Round 2 will

take place during the Fall RTC Sessions, at West Deptford,

Phillipsburg, and Millburn on September 12th, 13th, and 19th,

respectively. It is required that you attend at least 2 Region-

al Training Conferences if you would like to be honored at

2016’s District Convention as a Distinguished Officer. Please

do your best to attend these as they near closer this Septem-

ber! I look forward to seeing all officers and the fresh faces

of some of your members!

DCM 1 Recap

As you all know, Saturday, June 5th, 2015 was Division

13’s first Divisional Council Meeting (DCM). This was held at

the Panera Bread in Flemington, New Jersey, as will most

others, due to the fact that it seems to be the most central

location for all schools. At this DCM, several very important

items were discussed, including ICON and Devin Sun & Ricky

Thompson’s campaigns for International Trustee, Fall Rally on

October 11th, the Teen Hunger Institute this July, and staying

involved in the summer. Upon conclusion of the DCM, I held

an Officers’ Training Conference (OTC), and effectively

trained all present officers who had not been trained prior to

the DCM. Below is a rough calendar/timeline of all future

DCMs:

2. September

3. November

4. December

5. February

6. March

I hope to see you all at our DCMs in the coming seasons!

Introduction to Key Leader

Imagine a weekend in the woods with about 65 Key

Clubbers learning about service leadership and having fun

while doing it – that is exactly what Key Leader is! This year,

from December 4th-December 6th, Kiwanis is sponsoring

their annual Key Leader in Camp Cross Roads in Port Murray,

NJ! As mentioned, about 65 students join together for a

weekend to learn about what it means to be a leader. From

ropes courses to informative workshops, Key Leader is an

overall amazing experience! At Key Leader you are able to

meet teens from all over New Jersey who share a passion for

service just like you! The friendships and bonds you form at

Key Leader are incredible. The great thing is that not just Key

Clubbers attend – students not in Key Club as well as 8th

Graders can join in on the fun!

If a student has attended a Key Leader prior to this year,

they are able to sign up as a Student Facilitator. At Key

Leader, students break off into groups called

“neighborhoods” and Student Facilitators are in charge of

neighborhoods. The neighborhood will have to create their

own mascots, posters, and will be taking part in team build-

ing activities together. The Student Facilitators will get a dis-

counted price of about $115 of what would be $200 for non

Key Clubbers and $175 for Key Clubbers. The money goes

towards food, lodging and activities throughout the week-

end. It is truly a life changing experience, and you get to

meet so many amazing people!
