As a committee, the Jindalee State

School P & C is focussed on promoting

parent participation and encouraging

collaboration between parents, students,

the teachers and administration staff

within the school. It is about fostering

a commitment to achieving the best

educational outcomes for the children.

The teaching and administration staff,

led by the principal can only achieve so

much on their own and the P & C acts

as an extension to their great work. They

ensure projects such as the purchase of air

conditioning, new classroom furniture

and lights on the multi-purpose courts

just to name a few. They also manage the

tuckshop, uniform shop, School Aged Care

Program and they drive fund raising

through events such as the annual fete.

Welcome Back

The Dirt Magazine is designed and published by Who Dunnit? Graphic Design.

Editor/Designer: Stephane [email protected]

Welcome back to school and to third term. As the weather begins to get warmer, we say goodbye to winter and hello to fete day!

There are now six short weeks until the big day and there is loads to be done. We still have convenor roles to fill. There are decoration workshops happening of a Friday arvy. Jams need to be cooked, raffle tickets need to be sold, crafts need to be crafted and plants need to be planted. So now is the time to give us a hand if you can.

Are you a night owl or an early bird? Do you have any days free during the week or are you a nine-to-fiver? We have loads of jobs that will suit any time schedule.

Even if you only have a few nanoseconds to spare and you spend all of that precious time reading The Dirt from cover to cover then we still have something for you - share it! Help spread the word around the community by sharing The Dirt on Facebook. This is a huge help as it really gets the word out there.

Term 3 and six short weeks this Saturday until fete day. That’s 42 sleeps!

Just imagine it… Picture yourself in this picture… 6 sunny days and 5 balmy nights right here in this very photo.

Can you see yourself floating in this pool? What about strolling along that beach? Dining with that view? Or watching the sunset over that horizon?

It’s a very pretty picture, isn’t it?

So as you curl up on the lounge this winter with your blankie and hot chocolate, reading the latest issue of The Dirt, take a look at this picture and picture yourself in it.

This year we are very excited to announce we will be giving away a Hamiliton Island holiday valued at $2,730 and someone in our community will win it. Will it be you?

On July 1 2014 we commenced the Great Barrier Reef Raffle. We hope many parents will support the fundraiser by selling a book and perhaps even purchasing some of the tickets yourselves.

This week we will be sending home a raffle book (one per family). Please check your youngest child’s bag. Books contain only 10 tickets and each ticket sells for $2.00. Further instructions are on the following page. See What To Do.

Please also return any unsold tickets to the office by Wednesday 13 August.

If you would like to sell any more books please contact Great Barrier Reef Raffle Convenor, Christina:[email protected] Christina will allocate another book to your family. Remember every book you sell gives you yet another chance to win a holiday and an iPod.

Winners will be announced on fete day, 30 August 2014 at 5.30 pm.

Please note It is a legal requirement that all tickets are accounted for and processed, so please check your child’s bag. If you are unable to sell tickets, that’s fine but please return all unsold tickets as soon as possible to the office so they can be allocated elsewhere. In the unfortunate event that tickets are lost or damaged please let us know so we can process this through a Statutory Declaration.

Bil labong Books

The Lego P laygroundCONVENED BY

As one of the JSS fete’s most popular stalls, books and CDs (AKA Billabong Books) will certainly be making an enthusiatic return in 2014.

This is your opportunity to pick up some preloved reading and listening material at bargain basement prices.

So swing by and make camp at Billabong Books. Sit down with a good book under the shade of a coolibah tree.

You can’t miss the HUGE stall that is Billabong Books located

in the hall.

This year for the first time we are having a lego stall for the little ones wanting to take a break from the big rides.

The Lego Playground is a place to play and build. Please note however, the Lego isn’t for sale nor is it allowed to be taken home. All lego has been kindly lent to us and belongs to the lego club JSS.

A huge thanks to Maureen and the team at Goodstart Early Learning at Jindalee for kindly

convening this stall.

Spotlight on our JSS Stall HoldersThe Crafty Croc

The Tip Trash ‘n’ TreasureSPONSORED BYA trip to The Tip can only mean one of

two things. It could be an adventurous road trip to the northern most point of Australia or it is a place to purge and unload your unwanted stuff.

We all know that one man’s trash is certainly another’s treasure and The Tip at the JSS fete is a place for just that. There will be kitchen items, games, blankets, clothes, shoes, bikes, toys and maybe some furniture.

So come and grab a bargain at The Tip. Perhaps you might find some camping gear for that other trip to The Tip.

Those Crocs sure are crafty creatures. They knit, they sew, they stich, they crochet, they paint, they glue… …well the JSS ones do anyway.

A team of Crafty Crocs have been busily crafting items such as fabric iPad lap stands; door snakes; dog and cat doorstops; fairy doors and the ever popular fabric topped hand towels.

There are handmade cards; beautifully crafted gifts; lovely decorative nick-nacks and some unique items of jewellry.

Drop into the Crafty Croc stall, located just outside the hall and snap up a bargain.

Advertising on the official fete map/program is a great opportunity to put your business in front of a potential 15,000 sets of eyes.

This is a ripper little document because it is so much more than just a brochure for the fete, it is a utilised document by engaged readers.

Rather than our usual little flyer, this year we will have an 8 page foldout containing our site map and program. There will also be more effective methods of distribution of the map/program for maximum exposure. The methods of distribution are far less expensive than letterbox drops we have done in the past

and far more effective too. This maximises the exposure for our advertisers and sponsors and it also allows us to keep ad placement costs as low as possible.

There are still nine ads available. Thanks to our current advertisers below.

Please note: all sponsors also have advertising space with ad size corrosponding to level of sponsorship pledged. There are still some sponsorship levels available. For a copy of our sponsorship proposal including map/program advertising contact: Stef or Kara: [email protected]
